Friday June 1, 2012: Jirachi: Wish Maker

Movie Time!: Jirachi: Wish Maker

• Jirachi: Wish Maker (Japanese: 七夜の願い星 ジラーチ Wishing Star of the Seven Nights: Jirachi; Official: Wishing Star of the Seven Nights) is the first Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire movie, and the sixth of all Pokémon movies. It was first shown in Japanese theaters on July 19, 2003. It was released on video and DVD for North American audiences on June 1, 2004.
• The movie spans over the seven days of the Millennium Comet which is said to appear once every thousand years. The movie takes place in Forina where Ash and his friends were at a festival where they met Butler and Diane who owns a crystal containing Jirachi which wakes up if the Millennium Comet is visible in the night sky and a friend is chosen by fate.
• This movie marked the debut of the following Pokémon: Jirachi, Absol, Kirlia, Dusclops, Salamence, Vibrava, Flygon, Tropius, Linoone, Breloom, Swablu, Altaria, Skitty, Delcatty, Numel, Camerupt, Electrike, Manectric, Solrock, Groudon, and Kyogre.
• The events of this movie happen between the episodes Having a Wailord of a Time and Win, Lose or Drew!, and premiered in Japan between them.
• In Diamond and Pearl, the two Ace Trainers that appear on the southernmost part of Route 229 have their teams based on those of Butler and Diane. In fact, in the Japanese version, they have the same names as them, but the English translation team did not notice the relation to the movie characters.
• This is the only Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire movie in which Munchlax does not appear, as well as the only AG movie in which a Generation IV Pokémon does not appear.

Character of the Day: Elesa

• Elesa (Japanese: カミツレ Kamiture) is the Gym Leader of Nimbasa City's Gym, known officially as the Nimbasa Gym. She specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. She gives the Bolt Badge to Trainers who defeat her.
• The player can challenge her to a battle after riding a series of roller coasters to her location, a process involving the flipping of multiple switches so the tracks take the player to her. She utilizes a strategy that involves using Volt Switch between her two Emolga, and later Zebstrika. Upon defeating her, she will reward the player with a Bolt Badge and TM72 (Volt Switch).
• Outside of battle, Elesa is a supermodel. She appears when Bianca attempts to convince her father to allow her to become a Pokémon Trainer. Elesa aids her, convincing Bianca's father to give his daughter the permission to follow her dream.
• Elesa made her anime debut in Enter Elesa, Electrifying Gym Leader! where Ash and Bianca went to her modelling shows to request a Gym Battle. Bianca got picked first to battle against and won with ease. Ash battled her in the next episode in a three on three battle where he won, earning himself the Bolt Badge.
• She appears in the Pokémon Adventures manga with other Nimbasa officials discussing Pokémon Musicals with the BW Agency as Nimbasa was starting to become a tourist area. Later, Black challenges her to a Gym Battle which he won. She is next seen alongside her fellow Gym Leaders at the Celestial Tower discussing Team Plasma.
• She is set to reappear in Black and White Versions 2

Trainer's Guide: Mistralton Gym

• The Mistralton Gym (Japanese: フキヨセジム Fukiyose Gym) is the official Gym of Mistralton City. It is based on Flying-type Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Skyla. Trainers who defeat her receive the Jet Badge.
• Mistralton Gym is designed like a military hangar. The inside is full of cannons which the player must use to make their way to Skyla. Most of these cannons help the player to progress to Skyla; however, some will blast the player back to a Trainer.
• Mistralton Gym in the anime appears to be inspired by its game counterpart, though it does have a dirt battlefield. It has a cannon that shoots Skyla into the air that will explode into confetti when she makes her landing.
• Mistralton Gym is set to reappear in Black 2 and White 2 in a completely new design.

Tuesday June 5, 2012: Driftveil City

Tourist Spot: Driftveil City

• Driftveil City (Japanese: ホドモエシティ Hodomoe City) is a major ocean port city in western Unova. It has strong wind currents popular with sailboaters. More importantly, its ports are used by freighters and fishing boats that import and export goods such as vegetables in and out of Unova.
• It has a large market that has many useful items. The Cold Storage is to the south of this City. There are two possible exits from this city; Route 6 to the west and the Driftveil Drawbridge to the east which leads to Unova's central peninsula..
• Charles can be found here. In the games, he teaches the player about Rotation^B and Triple Battles^W. There is also a trade that can be made, the player can trade a Minccino for a Red-Striped^B/Blue-Striped^W Basculin.
• The Driftveil Gym is located here. The Gym Leader is Clay who gives out the Quake Badge to trainers who defeat him.
• Driftveil City made its anime debut in The Mighty Accelguard to the Rescue! where Ash and his friends met Charles and his Accelgor. Ash attempted to challenge the Gym Leader, Clay, in Stopping the Rage of Legends! (Part 1) but was denied unless he did him a favor. Ash finally battled Clay in Battling the King of the Mines!! where Clay proved to be a tough opponent.
• In Black 2 and White 2, several strange craters have appeared throughout the city.

Character of the Day: Skyla

• Skyla (Japanese: フウロ Fuuro) is the Gym Leader of Mistralton City's Gym, known officially as the Mistralton Gym. She specializes in Flying-type Pokémon. She gives the Jet Badge to Trainers who defeat her.
• She first appears in Mistralton City as the player arrives in the town. There she is speaking with Cedric Juniper about using her plane to fly to a faraway region. Before battling the player, she says she saw an injured Pokémon atop Celestial Tower to the north and must help it.
• Outside of battles, she is a pilot. Her grandfather is said to a legendary pilot.
• She made her anime debut in Cilan Takes Flight! where she would only battle trainers if she felt she had the advantage otherwise she would just give away the Jet badge. This infuriated not only Ash and Cilan but also her grandfather, Miles. Cilan then challenged her to show what being a Gym Leader is about but subsequently lost and Skyla still thought her method was fine. Ash then challenged her the next episode where he won and changed Skyla's view on battles.
• She is set to reappear in Black and White Versions 2.

Character of the Day: Luke

• Luke (Japanese: ルーク Luke) is a recurring character of the Pokémon anime that first appeared in Movie Time! Zorua in "The Legend of the Pokémon Knight"!.
• Luke worked at an old movie theater with Mr. Matthews assisting with the projections in exchange for watching the movies for free. He met Zorua when he thought he met one one of the actresses of a movie but it turned out to be Zorua. He then offered to give her a part in the movie he was directing, The Legend of the Pokémon Knight. However, he made her play all of the characters which angered Zorua who ran away. He then met Ash, Cilan and Iris who agreed to help find Zorua.
• Luke accompanied the gang in Reunion Battles In Nimbasa where he participant in the Club Battle tournament. His first opponent was a trainer named Scooter where he used his Golett against Scooter's Darmanitan and won. He was then shown to have owned a Larvesta and used it against Cilan in the second round and won, advancing to the semi finals.
• He is set to appear in BW082.
• Most of Luke's Pokémon help him with his film work. Zorua helps by acting, Golett helps by carrying his equipment, Leavanny helps by sewing clothes and Larvesta helps with the special effects.
• His name may be based off George Lucas, who is perhaps the most successful independent filmmaker.

Trainer's Guide: Rotation Battle

• A Rotation Battle (Japanese: ローテーションバトル rotation battle) is a type of Pokémon battle featuring up to 6 Pokémon, with one Pokémon from each side battling at a time. It was introduced in Black and White and is predominantly showcased in Black.
• A Rotation Battle consists of three Pokémon outside of their Poké Balls, similar to a Triple Battle, but only one Pokémon can attack at a time. Unlike switching or moving positions in a Triple Battle, rotating Pokémon is a free action, meaning both players may rotate and attack in the same turn.
• When a Rotation Battle begins, the first Pokémon able to battle in the player's party will be sent out to the primary position. The second member of the party will be counterclockwise from the first, while the third will be clockwise from the first.
• Rotating can be done during both the player's and the opponent's turns and has a priority of +6. Rotating is different to switching in that it doesn't use up a turn, reset status ailments like confusion and bad poison, or reset Ability counters like Slow Start.
• Only the active Pokémon plays any part in the battle. Moves and Abilities that affect more than one Pokémon will only affect the opponent's active Pokémon, and Abilities like Flower Gift will only activate if the user is active. Also status damage is not received while a Pokémon is inactive.
• This variation of battle has not yet made an appearance in the anime.

• Koffing (Japanese: ドガース Dogars) is a Poison-type Pokémon. It evolves into Weezing starting at level 35. It is classified as the "Poison Gas" Pokémon and has the Ability Levitate.
• It is #109 in the National Pokédex, #115* in the Johto Pokédex and #108 in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is set to appear in the extended Unova dex in Black 2 and White 2. Its Fiore, Almia and Oblivia browser numbers are: 089, 187, 045 respectively.
• Koffing made its anime debut in Pokémon Emergency! under the ownership of James of Team Rocket. It was his main Pokémon and often used its SmokeScreen to distract Ash and his friends while attempting to catch Pikachu. Another Koffing will be used by Homika in BW083, making it the first non-Unova Pokémon to be seen in Unova.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Koffing was seen as one of Koga's Pokémon alongside its evolution. When Koga and Blue are ambushed by Agatha's Gengar in Volume 7, Koga uses Koffing's smoke to relay his tactical plan to Blue without Gengar noticing.
• Koffing has been featured on 25 different cards since it debuted in the Base Set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Koffing cards are normally Psychic-type Basic Pokémon.
• In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Koffing was originally known as "Ny", representing New York City's polluted air.

Monday June 11, 2012: Reshiram

• Reshiram (Japanese: レシラム Reshiram) is a dual-type Dragon/Fire legendary Pokémon. It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. Reshiram is the version mascot of Pokémon Black, appearing on the boxart.
• Along with Zekrom and Kyurem, it is a member of the Tao trio, which exists in the legends of the Unova region.
• It is classified as the "Vast White Pokémon" and has the Ability Turboblaze. It is #643 in the National Pokédex and #149 in the Unova regional dex. It is expected to appear in Black 2 and White 2.
• Reshiram made its anime debut in a brief cameo in the opening of In The Shadow of Zekrom!.
• A Reshiram appeared in White—Victini and Zekrom and Black—Victini and Reshiram. In the former, it is controlled by Damon, while in the latter, it is controlled by Ash. Along with Zekrom, Reshiram can speak through telepathy.
• Reshiram has been featured on 18 different cards since it debuted in the Black & White expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Reshiram cards are normally Fire-type Basic Pokémon.

• Zekrom (Japanese: ゼクロム Zekrom) is a dual-type Dragon/Electric legendary Pokémon. It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. Zekrom is the version mascot of Pokémon White, appearing on the boxart.
• Along with Reshiram and Kyurem, it is a member of the Tao trio, which exists in the legends of the Unova region.
• It is classified as the "Deep Black Pokémon" and has the Ability Teravolt. It is #644 in the National Pokédex and #150 in the Unova regional dex. It is expected to appear in Black 2 and White 2.
• It made its debut in a cameo in the opening of In The Shadow of Zekrom!. Zekrom made its full appearance later where it appeared above the skies of Nuvema Town, its huge lightning bolt zapped Pikachu making it unable to use its electricity.
• A Zekrom appeared in Black—Victini and Reshiram and White—Victini and Zekrom. In the former, it is controlled by Damon, while in the latter, it is controlled by Ash. Along with Reshiram, Zekrom can speak through telepathy.

Wednesday June 13, 2012: Cheren

Character of the Day: Cheren

• Cheren (Japanese: チェレン Cheren) is a rival character in Black and White, and a Gym Leader in Black 2 and White 2.
• Cheren is a childhood friend of the player who, like the player, lives in the starting town of Nuvema Town. While he holds a greater knowledge in Pokémon than his friends and tends to offer the player advice during the course of their journey, his comments are often witty and intellectual.
• Whilst Professor Juniper describes him as being very honest, she also remarks that he can be 'a little difficult'; his impatience in particular is often seen throughout the earlier stages of his journey. He is also described as being quite judgmental by Alder.
• The player will encounter and battle him several times throughout the game. After the main storyline, Cheren can be found inside Victory Road where he can be battled once a day.
• In Black 2 and White 2, Cheren is the new Normal-type Gym Leader. He gives away the Basic Badge, replacing Lenora.
• In the Be a Master!! Pokémon BW manga, Cheren is friends with both Monta and Bianca, he is very knowledgable about Pokémon, which Monta dislikes. He also appears in the Pokémon Adventures manga as a supporting character.
• Cheren has appeared on a card in the Emerging Powers expansion. He is a Supporter card that allows the player to draw 3 cards.

Thursday June 14, 2012: Homika

Introducing: Homika

• Homika (ホミカ) is one of the new Gym Leaders of the Unova region. She is set to appear in Black 2 and White 2. She specializes in Poison-type Pokémon. She gives the Toxic Badge to Trainers who defeat her.
• She is a musician who plays the bass guitar, her band is called "The Dogars". Her Gym is a music club.
• Homika is set to appear in Rocking the Virbank Gym! (Part 1) and Rocking the Virbank Gym! (Part 2). In the episode, Ash will challenge Homika to a 6 on 3 battle with Homika using Koffing, Scolipede and Garbodor.
• Her father is an actor who works in Pokèwood.
• She is the first Poison type Gym Leader outside of Kanto. She is also the first Gym Leader to appear in the anime before her game debut.

• While there are 649 officially recognized species of Pokémon, with most members of an individual species looking relatively similar to one another, several Pokémon species have remarkable differences in appearance between members.
• Among these are several legendary Pokémon, whose unique forms can be changed between at will, and are spelled officially as "Formes".
• Unown was the first known Pokémon to have multiple forms in the games. From the species' debut in Generation II, each Unown would have an appearance similar to that of one of the twenty-six letters of the Latin alphabet. In Generation III, two more forms were added, corresponding to the question mark and exclamation point.
• The Generation I Pokédex entries for Arbok state that there are six variations of markings on its belly that differ between areas. Eight designs are known, but only four have appeared in the games, and only three of which appeared in main series games. In Pokémon Adventures, Arbok gains a special ability depending on its pattern.
• Like Unown, Spinda has many visual variations in its species, all involving the placement of its spots. Like Unown's letter, the spot placement is generated based on the individual's personality value, and likewise, has no effect on the Pokémon's stats.
