Mankey (Japanese: マンキー Mankey) is a Fighting-type Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Mankey specialize in physical fighting, but they can sometimes know elemental attacks (though they don't usually exceed in them very well).
Behavior
Mankey are very aggressive and short-tempered. Anyone that gets on its bad side (which is too easy to do), will receive a severe thrashing.
Habitat
Diet
Main article: Pokémon food
The prefered food appears to be Chestnuts, although Mankey usually lack the dexterity to peel them.
In the anime
A wild Mankey steals Ash's hat and then evolves into a Primeape. Ash catches it.
Mankey is one of the Yas Gym's Pokémon in EP042
In the 3rd Pokemon Movie, Spell of the Unown, a trainer named Lisa owns one.
Pokédex entries
- Pokémon Red and Blue / Pokémon LeafGreen
- Extremely quick to anger. It could be docile one moment then thrashing away the next instant.
- Pokémon Yellow
- An agile Pokemon that lives in trees. It angers easily and will not hesitate to attack anything.
- Pokémon Gold
- It is extremely ill-tempered. Groups of them will attack any handy target for no reason.
- Pokémon Silver
- It's unsafe to approach if it gets violently enraged for no reason and can't distinguish friends from foes.
- Pokémon Crystal
- It lives in groups in the treetops. If it loses sight of its group, it becomes infuriated by its loneliness.
- Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
- When Mankey starts shaking and its nasal breathing turns rough, it's a sure sign that it is becoming angry. However, because it goes into a towering rage almost instantly, it is impossible for anyone to flee its wrath.
- Pokémon Emerald
- When it starts shaking and its nasal breathing turns rough, it's a sure sign of anger. However, since this happens instantly, there is no time to flee.
- Pokémon FireRed
- Light and agile on its feet, and ferocious in temperament. When angered, it flies into an uncontrollable frenzy.
Game locations
In side games
- Pokémon Snap: There are three Mankey throughout the stage. The first is seen early on, yelling at you from a distance in front of Mt. Dugtrio. When the river first starts getting very rapid, another can be seen on a ledge on the left side of the river, also yelling at you. The last one is on top of a large mound, yelling at you as well. This one, however, can be knocked down by hitting the Squirtle at the base of the mound and making it roll up the mound. Aim it right, and it'll roll right into the Mankey! This Mankey will fall on a switch, opening up the route to a little pond. This also puts Mankey in a close spot for good pictures of it yelling at you.
