The Pokémon Deluxe Essential Handbook by Cris Silvestri is an edition of The Official Pokémon Handbook series that was published by Scholastic on July 28, 2015. It serves as a paper form of the National Pokédex for over 700 Pokémon, including Mega Evolutions, in alphabetical order. It is 432 pages long. The only Pokémon omitted are Hoopa and Volcanion, which had not been revealed at the time of the book's release (though a Barnes and Noble exclusive hardcover edition contains the former), and the Therian Formes of the forces of nature.

The edition printed in the United States uses US customary units. The edition printed in Australia uses SI units.

Entries

The entries for each Pokémon are in an easy-to-read page setup. Each Pokémon has either an entire page to itself or shares a page with another Pokémon. If a Pokémon has a Mega Evolution, it is listed immediately afterwards.

Name

Each entry is topped with a colored bar. These bars have the Pokémon's name, species name, and the region they can be found in.

Stats

Each Pokémon has the following stats below its name:

  1. Type
  2. Description
  3. Pronunciation
  4. Height
  5. Weight
  6. Possible Moves (moves the Pokémon will learn by leveling up)

Image and other information

Each Pokémon has an anime-style picture on its page. Legendary and Mythical Pokémon are labelled as such and there is a glow around the Pokémon.

Evolution chain

At the very bottom of a Pokémon's entry is a diagram of its evolutionary family, including the Pokémon's Mega Evolution. Pokémon that do not evolve do not have an evolution chain. A Pokémon that is on one side of a branched Evolution will show itself and the Pokémon it evolved from, but not the other side of the branch.

Trivia

  • Unown's exclamation and question mark forms are omitted, despite having existed years before the book was printed.
  • Under Burmy, Wormadam and Mothim's evolutionary lines, their respective genders are listed. This is not the case for any other Pokémon that evolve based on gender.

Errors

Please feel free to edit this article to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: which editions of the book have the Groudon error and which don't.

  • Under Absol's possible moves, Detect is listed twice.
  • Mega Audino's category is listed as the "Light Pokémon" (Ampharos's category) instead of the Hearing Pokémon.
  • Dialga's signature move, Roar of Time, is not listed in its possible moves.
  • Diancie is missing an evolutionary line, despite the fact it can Mega Evolve into Mega Diancie.
  • Donphan's type is listed as Normal instead of Ground.
  • Dusknoir's region is listed as Hoenn instead of Sinnoh.
  • In certain editions of the book, in Groudon's learnset, Hammer Arm is misspelled "Hammer Armor".
  • In the edition printed in the United States, Krabby's weight is listed as 614.3 lbs. rather than 14.3 lbs.
  • Mega Lopunny's type is listed as Normal instead of Normal/Fighting.
  • Mega Lopunny's category is listed as the "Caring Pokémon" (Alomomola's category) instead of the Rabbit Pokémon.
  • Palkia's Pokédex entry says that it can "cause rents and distortions in space", which was likely supposed to say rends.
  • In the edition printed in the United States, Reshiram's weight is listed as 6,727.5 lbs. rather than 727.5 lbs.
  • In the edition printed in the United States, Rufflet's height is listed as 21'08" rather than 1'8".
  • Mega Sableye's weight is listed as 24.3 lbs. (in the United States edition) or 11.0 kg (in the Australian edition) rather than 354.9 lbs. or 161.0 kg, respectively.
  • Sandile's category is listed without "Pokémon" at the end.
  • Mega Sceptile's type is listed as Grass instead of Grass/Dragon.
  • In the early United States pressing, Spearow's picture on page 354 shows Fearow instead.
  • Zigzagoon's category has a missing space, listed as "TinyRacoon Pokémon" (which was its category prior to Generation VI).
