A Tough Contest is a category of Contest in which the toughness condition of a Pokémon is judged. Many Tough moves are Normal, Steel, Ground or Template:Type2s, but other types may be Tough as well. During a Tough Contest, the following moves will excite the crowd:

The Tough condition is raised by Poffin or Pokéblocks made with sour-flavored Berries. Pokémon with natures that boost physical Defense - Bold, Relaxed, Lax, and Impish - get the most benefit from sour Berries, so they will be the easiest to raise for a Tough contest.
