Shalour City appeared in XY043 and XY044.
Ash and ashfr first arrived at Shalour City in Origins of Mega Evolution! to challenge the Shalour Gym. There, they met up with Korrina again. They discovered that the Gym was inside the Tower of Mastery, which was located on Mega Evolution Island, which is only accessible during low tide. While waiting to access the island, Ash attempted to master Tierno's rhythmic battle style, but failed to.

During low tide, Ash and the group eagerly entered the Tower of Mastery, where Gurkinn gave them a history lesson in Mega Evolution and mentioned his "Scroll of Secrets", which got stolen by TRT. After retrieving the scroll, Ash and Korrina prepared to start their Gym battle the next day. In Showdown at the Shalour Gym!, Ash defeated Korrina with his unique battling style and earned the Rumble. Afterwards, the group left the city.

Ash and Goh traveled to Shalour City in A Festival Reunion!. While Goh caught himself some Kalos Pokémon, Ash competed in a Battle Festival Challenge for the World Coronation Series. Between battles, Ash met back up with Korrina. Both of them were high enough on the rankings to have one single victory to raise them to the Great Class. They decided to battle each other to determine who was going to promote to the Great Class. The battle was tough, but eventually, Ash emerged victorious.

Ash and Goh returned to Shalour City in Under Color of Darkness! to find a replacement white Fairy Flower for Goh's Flabébé. After searching to no avail, they were directed by Professor Cerise to an old colleague of his that lived in the city with her Orange Flower Florges. The woman directed them to a patch of white Fairy Flowers on the outskirts of the city.

Ash and Goh revisited Shalour City again in An Adventure of Mega Proportions!, with Ash asking Korrina to help him Mega Evolve his Lucario for his upcoming World Coronation Series battles. Korrina agreed to help him, giving Ash a Mega Glove and accompanying him to Mega Island off the coast of Shalour City to help him find a Lucarionite.

Shalour City appeared in Trevenant Pokes and Heracross Transforms, where the Tower of Mastery was attacked by Essentia and her Trevenant in an attempt to find out the secrets of Mega Evolution. Korrina and Gurkinn did their best to defend the tower, but eventually Gurkinn chose to activate the tower's self-destruct mechanism in order to protect its secrets. The tower was collapsed into ruins, allowing the secrets of Mega Evolution to remain hidden, although Gurkinn was sad that the secrets of Diancie were also lost in the tower's destruction.

In Floette Returns, X planned to travel to Shalour City to properly become a Mega Evolution Successor.

In Magearna Moves, X revealed that the reconstruction of the Tower of Mastery was due to start in a month.

Shalour City in the anime

Ash and his friends first arrived at Shalour City in Origins of Mega Evolution! to challenge the Shalour Gym. There, they met up with Korrina again. They discovered that the Gym was inside the Tower of Mastery, which was located on Mega Evolution Island, which is only accessible during low tide. While waiting to access the island, Ash attempted to master Tierno's rhythmic battle style, but failed to.

During low tide, Ash and the group eagerly entered the Tower of Mastery, where Gurkinn gave them a history lesson in Mega Evolution and mentioned his "Scroll of Secrets", which got stolen by Team Rocket. After retrieving the scroll, Ash and Korrina prepared to start their Gym battle the next day. In Showdown at the Shalour Gym!, Ash defeated Korrina with his unique battling style and earned the Rumble Badge.

The Tower of Mastery in Pokémon Adventures

Pokémon Adventures

X & Y arc

Shalour City appeared in Trevenant Pokes and Heracross Transforms, where the Tower of Mastery was attacked by Essentia and her Trevenant in an attempt to find out the secrets of Mega Evolution. Korrina and Gurkinn did their best to defend the tower, but eventually Gurkinn chose to activate the tower's self-destruct mechanism in order to protect its secrets. The tower was collapsed into ruins, allowing the secrets of Mega Evolution to remain hidden, although Gurkinn was sad that the secrets of a certain Pokémon were also lost in the tower's destruction.

In Floette Returns, X planned to travel to Shalour City to properly become a Mega Evolution Successor.

In Magearna Moves, X revealed that the reconstruction of the Tower of Mastery was due to start in a month.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc

In PS616, Steven was revealed to have trained with Gurkinn in Shalour City in order to become a Mega Evolution user.

Trivia

Origin

Shalour City's real-life counterpart is the city of Saint-Malo. At low tide, it is possible to cross the sea on foot from Saint-Malo to Grand Bé Island, where ancient ruins still stand. It might also have been inspired by Mont-Saint-Michel, which is also accessible at low tide and located in the same general area, although belonging to another region of France. Shalour City's name may be derived from Chaleur Bay, located in the Francophone region of Canada.
