Latias (Japanese: ラティアス Latias) is a recurring Pokémon character in the anime.

History

Latias and Ash

Latias first appeared in JN137, when it was hit by Team Rocket who'd been sent blasting off. The impact sent Latias falling into the water below, the crash heard by Ash and his Pokémon. Spotted Latias injured, Ash jumped into the water and with the help of Buizel was able to get Latias back to land.

Using a potion and bandages, Ash and his Pokémon stood guard over Latias whilst she recovered but were spotted by Team Rocket. The next morning, Latias was captured by Team Rocket alongside Ash who tried to protect her and was soon freed by Pikachu. After recovering, Latias flew off but started to follow Ash whilst invisible.

In JN138, after Misty captured Clauncher, Latias was seen invisibly watching.

Latias reappeared in Galar, after the events of JN139.

In JN140, Latias watched as Ash trained a wild Beartic to take control of its Ice-type moves.

In JN141, Latias was seen again watching Ash and the Squirtle Squad's actions to put out a fire.

In JN142, Latias saved Ash and Pikachu from falling into a river, but left before they knew how they were saved.

Latias was seen again in JN143, where she was seen accompanying Ash and his Pokémon's rescue process from a trapped Wailord.

In JN144, Latias was seen again where she was watching Ash and his friends helping a lost Banette reunite with Nurse Joy.

In JN145, Latias watched as Team Rocket ambushed Pikachu and managed to alert Ash to the trouble he was in. Latias watched as Ash saved a Slakoth, before rescuing them. After sending Team Rocket blasting off, Latias showed Ash, Misty, and Brock a vision of a Latios in danger and asked for their assistance in freeing him.

Personality and characteristics

Latias being invisible

At first, Latias was initially distrustful towards humans as she became scared and hostile to them. However, after seeing Ash and his Pokémon's selflessness, Latias was convinced that some humans are trustworthy. Since then, Latias started taking an interest in Ash as she begins following and observing him on his journeys whilst being invisible. In addition, Latias values Ash's safety as she would protect him from danger.
