Flygon (Japanese: フライゴン Frygon) is a Ground/Dragon-type Pokémon.

Biology

Flygons appear to like deserts and arid zones. Little is known about them, mainly because there are no Flygons in the wild, and most of them belong to their original trainers.

Physiology

Flygon is loosely based on an antlion. It has red eye covers that protect its eyes from sandstorms. It has only a pair of wings, as opposed to its pre-evolved form, Vibrava. Also, Flygon has a pair of legs and arms, giving it a more dragon-like appearance.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Aside from being able to kick up sandstorms, Flygon's other ability is Levitate, which allows it to avoid Ground attacks such as Earthquake or Magnitude. Its wings also seem to be "singing" when they are flapped.

Behavior

Habitat

Although Flygons are hard to find in the wild, they are often seen in deserts punished by harsh sandstorms, often caused by themselves. Most Flygons belong to trainers, mainly from evolved Vibravas, either caught in the wild or previously evolved from a Trapinch.

Diet

In the anime

Flygon first appears in a flashback in of a Pokémon Coordinator in Delcatty Got Your Tongue?.

Another Flygon was in Jirachi: Wish Maker. It helped save Jirachi from Butler.

Drew's Flygon made its debut in Rhapsody in Drew.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Ruby
Flygon is nicknamed "the elemental spirit of the desert." Because its flapping wings whip up a cloud of sand, this Pokémon is always enveloped in a sandstorm while flying.
Pokémon Sapphire
Flygon whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings. The wings create a series of notes that sound like singing. Because the "singing" is the only thing that can be heard in a sandstorm, this Pokémon is said to be the desert spirit.
Pokémon Emerald
The flapping of its wings sounds like singing. To prevent detection by enemies, it hides itself by flapping up a cloud of desert sand.
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen
It hides itself by kicking up desert sand with its wings. Red covers shield its eyes from sand.
Pokémon Diamond
It whips up sandstorms with powerful flaps of its wings. It is known as "The Desert Spirit."
