Past
Sun is first seen as a child talking to his great-grandfather over a video phone. Sun's great-grandfather attempts to show some Meowth off, but their selfish personalities lead to them ignoring him. The sight of the Alolan Meowth give Sun the desire to visit the Alola region one day.
Sun originally lived somewhere in the Kanto region. One day, he was invited by his great-grandfather to come to the Alola region, only to find the man had passed away the night before he arrived. Faba, a high-ranking member of the Aether Foundation, had Sun's great-grandfather's body moved elsewhere in preparation to convert the island into the Aether Paradise. When Sun protested to this, Faba jokingly suggested that Sun could buy the island back if he made 100 million yen. Sun took this statement seriously and made it his goal to get the island back and realize his great-grandfather's dream of creating the Poké Pelago.

In the present day, Sun takes on a part-time job of removing wild Pyukumuku from a beach. He accidentally throws one into the face of a girl named Moon, angering her. They are interrupted by the two Team Skull Grunts that hired Sun for the job in the first place. The male Grunt gives Sun the money for the job, but proceeds to refuse to pay Sun when his Salandit notices a Pyukumuku that had not been removed. Moon sees through this lie and points out that the female Grunt slipped the extra Pyukumuku onto the ground when no one was looking. The male Grunt silences Moon by having his Salandit his her with its and then lies that the action broke Salandit's tail, which meant Sun would have to work to pay its medical bills. Angered, Sun destroys the cast around his leg and uses his Alolan Meowth, Cent, to defeat the Grunts, forcing them to run away. Although annoyed that he can no longer work on the beach, Sun decides to dry Moon's wet clothes with the heat of his Litten, Dollar. He then summons a Tauros with a Ride Pager to help Moon deliver a package to Professor Kukui.

Sun debuted in The Grand Entrance and Delivery Boy Sun, where he encountered a girl named Moon while doing part-time work removing wild Pyukumuku from the Hau'oli City Beachfront. When the Team Skull Grunts that hired Sun came to check up on his work, they tried getting out of paying him by planting an extra Pyukumuku on the beach. When Moon pointed this out, the male Grunt had his Salandit attack her and then feign injury to force Sun to pay for its medical bills. Angered, Sun used his Meowth, Cent, to defeat the Grunts and forced them to flee. Afterward, Sun apologized to Moon for causing her trouble and offered to help her deliver a Rotom to Professor Kukui.

Sun sets out to Professor Kukui's, only to come back after realizing that he forgot to take the item that needed to be delivered. Moon reveals that the delivery is actually herself and the Rotom she had with her. Sun then takes Moon through Hau'oli City's Shopping District, where they meet the locals. When Sun's injured foot begins to start hurting again, he is left unable to move. Moon decides to help Sun with her medical skills. She searches through a collection of healing items, but is unable to find the Figy Berry she needs to help Sun. After finding the Berry in a tree being pecked at by wild Pikipek, Moon pulls out a bow with a Poké Ball-tipped arrow and fires it at the Berry to knock it to the ground.
In The Delivery of Rotom and the Girl, Sun and Moon were attacked by the guardian deity of Melemele Island, Tapu Koko. After a quick battle, Tapu Koko ran away and left behind a Sparkling Stone, which Sun picked up. Later, Sun and Moon arrived at Professor Kukui's house on 1, where they found the man testing the moves of his Rowlet and Popplio. After a quick introduction, Moon delivered Rotom to Kukui, who wanted one due to it being capable of combining with Sun's Pokédex. When Rotom tried entering the Pokédex, it ran away in disgust because Sun's constant mishandling of the device left it dirty and smelling bad. Sun was forced to go out and retrieve Rotom while Kukui cleaned the Pokédex. The next day, Kukui revealed he entered Sun in the tournament being held at a festival in Iki Town.

With the Berry, Moon heals Sun's injury. When Sun asks why she didn't use a Pokémon, Moon tries to explain, but is interrupted when Sun notices something in the sky. Moon turns around to find that Tapu Koko, the guardian deity of Melemele Island, has appeared before them. Tapu Koko proceeds to attack the two, forcing Sun to battle it. After a short battle, Tapu Koko escapes and leaves behind a Sparkling Stone. Afterward, Sun and Moon arrive at Professor Kukui's laboratory, only to find the Professor bursting through the roof after testing out the moves of his Rowlet and Popplio.
In The Announcement and the Prize, Sun faced off against the Masked Royal in the first battle of the first round of the tournament, but refused to fight seriously due to the lack of a monetary reward. When Hala revealed the prize for winning the tournament, an island challenge amulet, Sun assumed he could sell it for money and became motived enough to win the battle. In the first battle of the second round, Sun went up against Guzma, the boss of Team Skull, who had come to make Sun pay for beating his subordinates earlier. Despite having his arm broken during the battle, Sun managed to win when Guzma's Golisopod dirtied the coin on Cent's head, causing it to fly into a rage and win the battle.

After Sun introduces Moon and Professor Kukui to each other, Moon hands over Rotom, to Kukui's delight. Kukui reveals that he wanted Rotom, which is not found in Alola, because it is capable of combining with Sun's Pokédex. When Rotom attempts to go inside the Pokédex, it freaks out and runs away, which Sun reveals is due to him constantly mishandling the Pokédex, causing it to become dirty and smell bad. Angered, Kukui beats Sun up and tells him to go and retrieve Rotom while he cleans the Pokédex. Later that night, an injured Sun returns to Kukui's house, having successfully retrieved Rotom. After Moon heals Sun's wounds for free, she notices a fire coming from Iki Town, which Sun reveals is due to a festival that will be held there the next day.
In The Final Match and a Surprising Finale!, Sun battled against Gladion in the final round. Sun's strategies during the fight annoyed Gladion, who told Sun to stop fooling around. Angered by Gladion's claim that he didn't have a legitimate motivation for participating in the tournament, the cast Moon made for Sun's broken arm unraveled, revealing the Sparkling Stone he used as a splint. Energy from a nearby Ultra Wormhole filled Dollar with energy, enabling it to use an incomplete version of Inferno Overdrive that defeated Gladion's Gladion. The strain of the attack caused Sun to pass out while wondering what just happened. The next day, Sun found himself in possession of the island challenge amulet. Overjoyed at his apparent victory, Sun decided to cash it in, only for the Rotom Pokédex to appear and reveal they were on Kukui's yacht at sea.

The next day, Sun is asked by a sleep-deprived Kukui why he wasn't informed about Sun's encounter with Tapu Koko the previous day. Kukui reveals that the Island Kahuna Hala asked to be reported about any sightings of Tapu Koko. To Sun's annoyance, Kukui also reveals that he decided to enter Sun in the battle that will be held in Iki Town's festival. At the festival, Sun does some part-time work by helping people place their stalls, but expresses annoyance that he is forced to put off any potential jobs due to being entered in the tournament.
In Going Ashore and Neighboring Akala Island, Hala gave Sun the task of delivering special Mirage Berries to each of Alola's guardian deities. While reluctant at first, Sun agreed to do the mission after learning he would be paid. Hala also revealed he took Sun's Sparkling Stone in order to fix it up for him. Moon introduced Sun to the Rotom Pokédex, which was the result of Rotom fusing with a spare Pokédex she received from Kukui. Rotom returned Sun's Pokédex to him and revealed it chose to stay with Moon instead. Later, Sun and Moon arrived at Heahea City, where they met Kiawe, Mallow, and Lana, the Trial Captains of Akala Island. Kiawe tested Sun to see if he was worthy in taking part of the Island challenge and eventually accepted him after they had a short battle. Lana, still unsure, told the group to follow her to Brooklet Hill.

In the first battle of the first round of the tournament, Sun is paired up against the Masked Royal, but he refuses to take the battle seriously due to the lack of a monetary reward. When Hala reveals the prize for winning the tournament, an island challenge amulet, Sun assumes he can sell the amulet for money and becomes motivated to battle seriously. After a tough battle, Dollar defeats the Masked Royal's Munchlax, giving Sun the win and allowing him to advance to the next round. The next battle is interrupted by the arrival of Team Skull's leader, Guzma, who had come to the festival in order to get payback on Sun for his victory over the Team Skull Grunts at Hau'oli Beachfront. Guzma then takes Grunt A's place in the tournament, putting him as Sun's opponent in the next battle.
In True Identity and the Totem Pokémon of Brooklet Hill, Lana gave Sun the task of defeating the Totem Pokémon of Brooklet Hill. Shortly after arriving, Sun decided to keep a wild Wishiwashi he befriended and named it Quarter. Sun put off catching Quarter until he finished the trial and asked it to help find the Totem. After hours of searching ended in failure, Dollar attacked Quarter, causing it to flee. When Quarter returned, it had used its Schooling Ability to transform into its School Form, revealing that it was the Totem of Brooklet Hill all along. Sun's hesitance at fighting Quarter angered Lana, who revealed she had trained the Totem herself. Lana chastised Sun for underestimating her skills as a Trainer due to her usual shy and meek demeanor. Hearing this, Sun realized that, like Lana, Quarter is strong despite its weak-looking appearance and that he shouldn't go easy on it despite that. Sun commanded Cent to attack the Totem's left eye, where Quarter was located, and defeat it, successfully passing the trial. Afterward, Sun officially added Quarter to his team.

In the first battle of the second round of the tournament, Sun faces off against Guzma. Through the use of tactics, Guzma's Masquerain easily defeats Dollar. With only one Pokémon left, Sun sends out Cent to face Masquerain, which it manages to defeat. With both parties down to one team member, Guzma sends out his final Pokémon, Golisopod. Golisopod proves to be a powerful opponent and even manages to break Sun's arm when he tries to defend Cent from an attack. When Golisopod accidentally dirties the coin on Cent's head with its claws, Cent flies into a rage, giving it the strength to defeat Golisopod, allowing Sun to move to the final round. Angered by this defeat, Guzma and the Grunts leave the area.

In PASM10, Sun and Lana were informed by Mallow that Kiawe had been attacked by someone. After regrouping with Moon and Mallow at Konikoni City, the four traveled to Memorial Hill, where they found an injured Kiawe lying on the ground. A group of Skull Grunts appeared, claiming they were the ones who defeated Kiawe. Lana and Mallow stayed behind to battle the Grunts while Sun, Moon, and Kiawe went to the Ruins of Life to check up on Tapu Lele. Shortly after arriving, Kiawe told Sun about Z-Moves and helped him practice the pose for Inferno Overdrive, which he planned to have Sun use against Gladion, the person who defeated him. As Sun did not possess a Z-Ring, Kiawe allowed Sun to borrow his own, but they were interrupted by Gladion, who had joined Team Skull as an Enforcer. Gladion managed to capture Tapu Lele, was still recovering from a battle it had with a Xurkitree Moon saw at Lush Jungle. Kiawe tried giving his Z-Ring to Sun, but it was destroyed by Gladion's Type: Null. Gladion revealed that he won the Iki Town festival tournament, but was forced to forfeit when Sun was discovered to have received a Sparkling Stone. When Gladion claimed Sun wouldn't have won even with the Z-Move, a voice appeared, pointing out that if he truly believed that, then he wouldn't have destroyed the Z-Ring. The voice is revealed to be Kahili, who uses her Pokémon to distract Type: Null before delivering Sun his finished Z-Ring.

In PASM13, Sun and Dollar successfully executed Inferno Overdrive, which managed to crack Type: Null's mask, forcing Gladion to switch it out for Porygon. Sun tried using the Z-Move again, but it failed, allowing Porygon to defeat Dollar. Gladion gave up on Tapu Lele, deciding it was too weak to fight the mysterious creatures appearing in Alola. As he left, Gladion revealed the Ultra Wormholes are the result of something trying to break free into their world. Afterward, Tapu Lele woke up and Sun delivered the Mirage Berry to it. As thanks for healing it, Tapu Lele challenged Sun, Moon, Kiawe, and Kahili to a battle to test their strength. Despite the combined effort of their Pokémon, Tapu Lele easily blocked their attacks. Sun, refusing to give up, managed to land a hit on Tapu Lele after Dollar evolved into a Torracat. The attack didn't harm Tapu Lele, but it acknowledged their determination and flew off. Afterward, Moon tried to consult Rotom about what Gladion said when he left, but the only answer it could give was "Necrozma."
Afterward, Moon bandages Sun's broken arm to let it heal. In the second battle of the second round of the tournament, Sun watches as Moon faces off against Gladion. To Sun and Gladion's surprise, the normally serious pharmacist Moon is actually a lover of Poison Pokémon. After Moon is defeated, Sun faces off against Gladion in the final round of the tournament. Gladion's Gladion proves to be a powerful opponent, both in offense and in defense with its iron mask. Sun tries to defeat Type: Null by shooting Dollar's fire hairballs into the mask, but Gladion sees through this strategy and tells Sun to stop fooling around. Angered by Gladion claiming that he doesn't have a legitimate motivation for participating in the tournament, Sun angrily declares that he will obtain the money he needs at any cost. As he does this, the cast on Sun's arm unravels, revealing the Sparkling Stone underneath. A powerful energy shoots out from a crack in the sky and lands on the Sparkling Stone before moving towards Dollar. The energy powers up Dollar's Ember, allowing it to create a powerful sea of flames that defeats Gladion's Type: Null. The strain of the attack causes Sun to pass out as he wonders just what move it was that Dollar used.

Later, Sun is awakened by the blinding light of the sun. After questioning what happened to the tournament, Sun notices that he is in possession of the island challenge amulet. Overjoyed with his apparent victory, Sun decides to go exchange the amulet for money, but begins to question where he is. To Sun's shock, a talking Pokédex possessed by a Rotom reveals that they are currently on a yacht driven by Professor Kukui in the middle of the sea.
In PASM14, Sun and the others grouped together at Mallow's restaurant in Konikoni City to speak to Kukui's wife, Professor Burnet, over a video phone. They speculate that the Ultra Wormholes appearing in Alola may have been the result of Nebby, the Pokémon in Lillie's care. Kukui told Burnet to take Lillie and meet with him, Sun, and Moon at Ula'ula Island, where Sun has to go to deliver the next Mirage Berry. Later that night, Burnet and Lillie traveled to Kukui's yacht via Mantine Surf, but a wild Bruxish appeared and used its powers to give everyone headaches. Sun defeated the Bruxish and rescued Lillie from falling into the water, but they both ended up passing out. Sun and Lillie washed up on a beach on Ula'ula Island, where they were found by Acerola, who took the pair to the Aether House to recuperate. After waking up, Sun properly introduced himself to Lillie, who explained how the Aether House worked. When Sun saw Acerola, he noticed the symbol in her hair, confirming her as another Trial Captain.

As they travel, Sun talks to Hala over a video phone. Hala reveals that he has taken Sun's Sparkling Stone as fixing it up for him. Kukui reveals that the guardian deities of Alola have been enraged by something and the only way to calm them down is deliver a Mirage Berry to each guardian. For that reason, Kukui and Island Kahunas have tasked Sun with delivering the Berries to each guardian. Although Sun is reluctant at first, he quickly accepts once he hears that he will be paid for each delivery. Moon introduces Sun to the Rotom Pokédex, which is the form the Rotom she delivered took after combining with a spare Pokédex that Moon received from Professor Kukui. Rotom tells Sun that it has decided to join with Moon instead of him and gives Sun his Pokédex back.
In PASM16, Acerola took Sun and Lillie to the Thrifty Megamart. Acerola tasked Sun with taking a photograph of the Totem Pokémon that lived inside the building. Shortly after they entered, the Totem, a Mimikyu, destroyed the camera Acerola gave to Sun for the trial. Rotom appeared shortly after, revealing that Sun accidentally grabbed it when he went to rescue Lillie the night before. With its Poké Finder, Rotom served as a replacement camera. During the battle, Sun noticed was focusing mostly on him instead of Dollar, making him realize that Mimikyu was angered when he insulted its appearance earlier. Rotom translated Mimikyu's speech, revealing that it disguised itself as Pikachu as a way to get people to like it, only for its attempts to fail. While he refused to take back his honest opinion about its appearance, Sun told Mimikyu that it shouldn't hide itself away from those who reject it and instead venture out to find true friends who would accept it. Mimikyu accepted Sun's words and agreed to join his team, where it received the nickname Franc. Afterward, Rotom took Franc's picture and sent it to Acerola, officially completing Sun's second trial.

Afterward, the group arrives at Heahea City on Akala Island. There, they are greeted by Kiawe, Mallow, and Lana, the Trial Captains of Akala Island. The three reveal that they are unsure if Sun is worthy enough to take part in the Island challenge and wish to battle him to see if he's worthy. After a short battle, Kiawe takes a liking to Sun and accepts him as worthy enough to take part in the Island challenge, but Lana is still unsure and has the group follow her to Brooklet Hill.
With his trial finished, Sun decided to deliver the next Berry to Tapu Bulu, only to realize the other Berries were still on Kukui's yacht. With Stoutland Search, Sun looked around for another Mirage Berry. When Rotom revealed that it spoke to Nebby earlier, Sun decided to have it translate Nebby's speech in hopes of speeding up the process of calming down the guardian deities. When Sun opened Lillie's bag, Nebby emerged in the form of the dormant and unresponsive Cosmoem. Sun and Lillie returned to Aether House upon Acerola's request. After Lillie went to sleep, Sun checked his Spoink piggy bank and discovered he was only ten million yen away from his goal.

The group travels to 5, where Lana reveals that she wants Sun to defeat the Totem Pokémon that is causing havoc at Brooklet Hill. After arriving at the trial site, Sun slips on a boardwalk and drops a one yen coin into the water. Sun tries to search for the missing yen, but is unable to see in the dark water. He is helped by a wild Wishiwashi, who found the coin and returns it to Sun. Finding the Wishiwashi cute and not wanting it to be attacked by the Totem, Sun decides to keep the Wishiwashi and names it Quarter. Sun decides to put off catching Quarter until he finishes the trial and instead asks it to help him find the Totem. After several hours of being lead around the area, Sun gets annoyed at Quarter constantly leading him to the wrong Pokémon. Angered, Dollar tries to attack Quarter, causing it to get scared and flee. After Sun calms Dollar down, a school of Wishiwashi begin to circle around Lapras before combining into their School Form and leaping out of the water. As the School Form Wishiwashi looms down on him, Sun realizes that Quarter and the other Wishiwashi are actually the Totem.
In PASM18, Sun and Lillie were approached by Sina and Dexio, a pair of Trainers from the Kalos region. After apologizing for the break-in, Sina and Dexio hired Sun to help them find the Zygarde List of Pokémon with form differences scattered across Alola. Sun accepted and received a Zygarde Cube to store the Cells he managed to find. Fearing that putting Lillie in danger would cause Nebby to use its powers again, Sun had Lillie stay behind and went to Po Town to begin his search.

Totem Wishiwashi's combined might forces Sun to run away in order to avoid its attacks. With Dollar knocked out, Sun is forced to switch it out for Cent but is hesitant to attack the Totem due to it being controlled by Quarter. Sun's behavior angers Lana, who reveals that she actually trained the Totem Pokémon, but it became too strong and began attacking tourists at Brooklet Hill. Lana chastises Sun for underestimating her skills as a Trainer due to her usual shy and meek demeanor. Hearing this, Sun realizes that, like Lana, Quarter is strong despite its weak-looking appearance and that he shouldn't go easy on it despite that. Sun commands Cent to attack the Totem's left eye, where Quarter is located, and defeats it, causing the entire school to break apart into several Solo Form Wishiwashi. To Sun's shock, Lana reverts to her usual personality and tells him that he passed the trial. Afterward, Sun officially adds Quarter to his team.
Immediately after arriving at Po Town, Sun found Kiawe, Lana, Mallow, Acerola, Ilima, and Hau battling Pheromosa, Celesteela, and Guzzlord, a trio of mysterious creatures. Guzma revealed the mysterious creatures are called Ultra Beasts and that they are under his command. When the Captains refused to give up despite being outclassed, Guzma pulled out another Cosmog and had it open more Ultra Wormholes. Gladion appeared, demanding that Guzma tell him who gave him the Cosmog and Ultra Beasts. Gladion revealed his true goal is to destroy the Ultra Beasts and had Type: Null battle the ones Guzma summoned. Due to its nature as an Ultra Beast fighting weapon created by the Aether Foundation, Type: Null fared better in the battle. Gladion revealed the Aether Foundation's president, Lusamine, gave Cosmog to Guzma to fuel her desire to create a paradise filled with nothing but Ultra Beasts and herself.

Guzma denied the accusation that he was being used, only for a Nihilego to grab him and drag him towards an Ultra Wormhole. Moon appeared and attempted to rescue Guzma, but was stopped by a Xurkitree. Sun managed to free Moon with his team, but ended up swatted away by Xurkitree, causing him to crash-land onto a car. The other beasts broke out of Po Town's barrier, allowing them to wreak havoc on the rest of Ula'ula. The Captains headed off to evacuate any innocents caught in the beasts' attacks while Moon stayed behind to heal Sun's injuries. When Moon pointed out that Sun reacted strangely when Gladion mentioned the Aether Foundation, Sun revealed the reason he had been collecting money was to buy back the island the Aether Foundation stole from from his great-grandfather. Before he could explain any further, Sun and Moon were approached by Salon Maiden and Looker of the International Police.
Later, Sun and Lana are informed by Mallow that Kiawe was attacked by someone. They travel by sea to Konikoni City, where they meet back up with Moon and Mallow. The four travel to Memorial Hill, where they find an injured Kiawe lying on the ground, defeated. A group of Team Skull Grunts appear and claim that they were the ones who attacked Kiawe. Angered by this, Lana and Mallow tell Sun and Moon to tend to Kiawe's wounds while they battle the Grunts. Kiawe reveals that the Grunts weren't the ones who defeated him and it was actually a far more powerful Trainer. Kiawe tells Sun that he had been thinking about the attack Dollar used at the Iki Town festival and pulls out a Firium Z from Dollar's fur to reveal that it was the source of the attack.

Lana and Mallow tell Sun and the others to head to the Ruins of Life in order to check up on Tapu Lele while they stay behind. Sun agrees and sends out Tauros to take him, Moon, and Kiawe to the ruins. After Kiawe's injuries are healed by Moon, Kiawe tells Sun about Z-Moves and how to use them. With practice, Sun masters the pose for Inferno Overdrive, which Kiawe says will be needed to face the person who attacked him. Due to Sun not possessing a Z-Ring required to use Z-Moves, Kiawe decided to let Sun borrow his Z-Ring. Before Sun can take the Z-Ring, they are attacked by Gladion, who is revealed to have joined Team Skull as an Enforcer. The group notices that Gladion managed to easily kidnap Tapu Lele, which Moon attributes to Tapu Lele still being injured from an earlier battle with a Xurkitree at Lush Jungle. Moon assumes Gladion must need the deities to fight off the mysterious creatures and suggests that they work together in order to face them, but Sun refuses to work with someone who chooses to work with villains and decides to defeat Gladion with his newly learned Z-Move. Kiawe attempts to hand his Z-Ring over to Sun, but it is destroyed by Gladion's Type: Null.

In PASM20, Anabel questioned the children about what they knew of the Ultra Beasts, but Sun was wary of the International Police, as he found their desire to protect and take in Pokémon used in crimes too similar to the goals of the Aether Foundation. After receiving a bribe from Anabel, Sun allowed Moon to give the officer information about the beasts that appeared in Alola. After having Looker sent off to investigate, Anabel told Sun and Moon about the beasts' species names as well as their codenames. The group was then attacked by Blacephalon, another beast that emerged from a wormhole. Sun and Anabel managed to stun Blacephalon long enough for Anabel to attempt a capture. The Poké Ball did not work on Blacephalon, revealing they only work properly on regular Pokémon. Blacephalon retaliated by using Mind Blown on the group, but was blown away by Tapu Bulu's Whirlwind. After Kukui and Burnet arrived with the Mirage Berry, Sun was reluctant to give it up, as he believed the guardian deities had no reason to help humans, because they were the ones responsible for causing the danger in Alola to begin with. Moon disagreed with this statement and argued that if humans were the cause for the danger, then they should take responsibility by helping fix it as well. Sun and Moon then gave the Mirage Berry to Tapu Bulu, who readily accepted it.

Gladion reveals that the reason he forfeited the Iki Town tournament was because Hala declared Sun the winner after discovering he was in possession of a Sparkling Stone. Although Gladion claims that Sun wouldn't have won even with the Z-Move, a voice appears and points out that if Gladion truly believed that, he wouldn't have destroyed Kiawe's Z-Ring. The voice is revealed to be Kahili, who uses her Pokémon to attack Type: Null before delivering Sun his finished Z-Ring. Sun puts on the Z-Ring and prepares to use it to defeat Gladion.
In PASM21, Sun, Moon, and Anabel traveled to Poni Island. With Kukui and Burnet off on other business, Sun had no clues about where to find Tapu Fini, Poni's guardian deity. Sun went off ahead and landed on Poni Beach, only to be attacked by a pair of wild Crabrawler, who stole the Mirage Berry and ran off with it. Sun chased the thieves to their hideout at Seafolk Village, but was forced to battle the Crabrawler's leader, a Crabominable. After being injured to the point where he couldn't move, Sun was rescued by Hapu, who used her Mudsdale to battle the attacking Crabrawler mob as well as summoning Machamp Shove to carry Sun. By having Machamp shake the boat they were on with its strength, Sun rescued Mudsdale from one of Crabominable's attacks, leaving it wide open to be defeated. Afterward, Sun had Hapu deliver the Mirage Berry to Tapu Fini, who had been watching the battle the entire time. To Hapu's surprise, Tapu Fini presented her with a Sparkling Stone, making her the next Island Kahuna of Poni Island.

The attack succeeds, causing Type: Null's mask to start breaking. Gladion, fearing what would happen if the mask shatters completely, switches out for his Porygon. Sun attempts Inferno Overdrive again, but the attack fails, leading to Dollar's defeat. Gladion decides to give up on capturing Tapu Lele, calling it too weak to help him fight the mysterious creatures. Gladion reveals that the cracks in the sky are not an opening but an exit, and that something must be trying to break free into their world. After Gladion leaves, Tapu Lele wakes up and Sun delivers the Mirage Berry to it.
In PASM23, Hapu decided to visit her deceased grandfather's grave on Vast Poni Canyon and invited Sun to come along with her. The Crabominable Hapu defeated earlier followed them, hoping to join Hapu's team, but she rejected it and suggested it join Sun instead. Crabominable reluctantly allowed Sun to catch it and was nicknamed Dong. After spotting Nebby encountering another Cosmoem, Hapu decided to postpone the grave visit and headed to the Poni Altar. Along the way, Sun and Hapu were surrounded by Aether Foundation Employees that wanted Hapu to come with them to the Poni Altar. The Employees were forced to flee when a Xurkitree came crashing down on them after being defeated by Gladion, who had Lillie with him. Gladion and Lillie revealed that they were siblings and were in possession of the Sun Flute, an instrument meant to be played with the Moon Flute in Hapu's possession. The guardian deities of Alola appeared and took Sun and both flutes away. Sun, along with Moon, was taken to the Poni Altar, where they played the Sun and Moon Flutes together, causing the Altar to react.

As thanks for healing its injuries, Tapu Lele asks the group to allow it to test their strength. Sun, Moon, Kiawe, and Kahili accept and send out their Pokémon to face the guardian deity. Despite the combined effort of their attacks, Tapu Lele proved to be a powerful opponent and easily blows their Pokémon away. When Sun refuses to give up, Dollar evolves into a Torracat and manages to land a hit on Tapu Lele. While the attack doesn't harm Tapu Lele, it acknowledged their determination and flies off.
In PASM25, the Poni Altar released a bright light that allowed Nebby and the other Cosmoem to evolve into Lunala and Solgaleo, respectively. After explaining what the two Legendary Pokémon were, Anabel received a call from Looker, who reported that a large number of Ultra Beasts emerged from Po Town and have made their way to Poni Island. While the others fought the beasts, Sun confronted Faba, demanding that the Aether Foundation return his great-grandfather's island. Faba revealed to Sun that the island had already been converted into Aether Paradise, and amount he suggested Sun gather wouldn't nearly be enough to return the island back to its previous state. A giant Ultra Wormhole with a Necrozma's hand emerging from it opened in front of everyone. The hand possessed Solgaleo's body, forcing it to grab Sun and jump into the wormhole with it while Moon and Lunala followed after.

Afterward, Moon wonders what Gladion meant about the cracks in the sky being exists. She decides to consult the Rotom Pokédex about it, but the only answer it can give is "Necrozma."
At some point, Sun and Moon ended up separated from Lunala and ended up trapped in the Ultra Deep Sea for six months. When Lunala reappeared, Sun and Moon chased after it, only to find it being ridden by that Dulse and Zossie of the Ultra Recon Squad. After overhearing that Dulse had met with the Aether Foundation to create Poké Balls capable of capturing the Ultra Beasts, Sun confronted the strangers, demanding to know what their connection with the Aether Foundation was.

Later at Konikoni City, Sun watched Moon face a Totem Lurantis in order to train and get strong enough to face the mysterious creatures. After defeating Lurantis, Sun and the others head to Mallow's restaurant to talk with Professor Kukui's wife, Professor Burnet, over a video phone. They talk to each other over the various cracks in the sky that have been spotted around Alola and speculate that Nebby may have been the cause. Professor Kukui tells Burnet to take Lillie with her to Ula'ula Island, as that's the next destination where Sun and Moon will deliver the next Mirage Berry.

Later, Professor Burnet and Lillie meet up with Sun's group, who had boarded Professor Kukui's yacht to travel to Ula'ula Island. The group is attacked by a wild Bruxish, which uses its psychic powers to give everyone headaches. With Sharpedo Jet and Quarter's help, Sun defeats Bruxish and saves Lillie, but ends up falling unconscious. Sun and Lillie later wash up on a beach on Ula'ula Island, where they are found by Acerola, who takes the pair to the Aether House to recuperate. After waking up, Sun is properly introduced to Lillie, who explains how the Aether House serves as an orphanage for children and Pokémon. When Sun sees Acerola, he notices the symbol in her hair, revealing that she is another Trial Captain.

After Acerola properly introduces herself, she takes Sun and Lillie to site of the former Thrifty Megamart. Acerola gave Sun the task of taking a picture of the Totem Pokémon that lived inside the building. Shortly after entering, Sun and Lillie were attacked by the Totem Pokémon, a Mimikyu, which destroyed the camera Acerola gave him for the trial. While Sun had Dollar battle Mimikyu, the Rotom Pokédex appeared and revealed that it was accidentally taken by Sun when he went to save Lillie from the Bruxish earlier. With the Poké Finder function, Sun used Rotom as a replacement camera. Mimikyu's speed prevented Sun from taking the picture, forcing him to have Dollar use Inferno Overdrive in the hopes that the Z-Move's power would keep Mimikyu stunned long enough for him to take the shot. While the attack successfully hit, all it did was break Mimikyu's disguise, leaving the Totem completely unscathed.

With the Z-Move wasted, Sun is forced to defend himself against Mimikyu's relentless attacks. Noticing that Mimikyu only focused its attacks on him instead of Dollar, Sun realized that he actually angered Mimikyu when he insulted its appearance. Rotom translated Mimkyu's speech, revealing that it disguised itself as Pikachu as a way to get people to like it, only for its attempts to fail.

With his task done, Sun decided to deliver the next Mirage Berry to Ula'ula's guardian deity, Tapu Bulu, only to realize the Berries were on Professor Kukui's yacht when they were attacked by Bruxish. Having no choice, Sun activated Stoutland Search in hopes of finding another Mirage Berry. As they searched, Sun thanked Rotom for its help with translating Franc's speech. During the conversation, Rotom revealed that it also spoke to Nebby and discovered that it is connected to the guardian deities. Believing that Nebby could make calming the Deities down easier, Sun asked Nebby to come out of Lillie's bag, only for both to discover that it had evolved into the unresponsive Cosmoem.

Later, Sun and Lillie returned to Aether House upon Acerola's request. After going to sleep, Sun is awakened by the sound of his Spoink piggy bank receiving the payment for the delivery to Tapu Lele. After making sure no one else was around to see, Sun counted the amount of money he had and discovered he was only ten million yen away from his goal. A noise coming from somewhere else causes Lillie to wake up, forcing Sun to quickly hide his money away from sight. Shortly after, the Headmaster Oranguru of the Aether House enters the room while in battle with an Espeon and a Glaceon. The Trainers of the two Pokémon reveal themselves to be Sina and Dexio from the Kalos region, who apologize for breaking in.

Sina and Dexio request that Sun assist them in finding the Zygarde List of Pokémon with form differences scattered across Alola. While Sun is initially reluctant, he agrees after being told he'll be paid one hundred thousand yen for each of the forty Cells they need, which would bring him four million yen closer to his goal. In order to complete this task, Sun is given a Zygarde Cube capable of storing the Cells and Cores as well as a Mecha Fletchling so that he may keep in touch with Sina and Dexio. Fearing that putting Lillie in danger may cause Nebby to use its powers again, Sun has Lillie stay behind and heads off to Po Town to begin his search.

Immediately after arriving at Po Town, Sun finds Kiawe, Lana, Mallow, Acerola, Ilima, and Hau in battle with three mysterious creatures: Pheromosa, Celesteela, and Guzzlord. Guzma reveals that the mysterious creatures are actually called Ultra Beasts, and they are under his command. The Ultra Beasts easily outclass the Captains' Pokémon, but when his opponents refuse to quit fighting, Guzma pulls out another Cosmog and has it open more Ultra Wormholes to summon more beasts. As the beasts continue to attack even the Skull Grunts, Gladion appears, demanding that Guzma tell him who gave him the Cosmog and Ultra Beasts.

After revealing his true goal is to destroy the Ultra Beasts, Gladion sends out Type: Null to battle the beasts Guzma summoned. Despite the Captains' Pokémon failing to even scratch the Ultra Beasts, Type: Null is easily able to harm them due to the Aether Foundation specifically creating it to fight beasts. To everyone's shock, Gladion reveals that the Aether Foundation's president, Lusamine, is the one who gave Guzma his beasts and is secretly using him to fuel her desire for a paradise filled with nothing but Ultra Beasts and herself. Guzma denied the accusation that he was being used, only for a Nihilego to grab him and drag him towards an Ultra Wormhole. Moon attempted to rescue Guzma, but was stopped by a Xurkitree. Sun managed to free Moon with his team, but ended up swatted away by Xurkitree, causing him to crash-land onto a car.

Eventually, the beasts manage to break free from Po Town's barrier, allowing them to wreak havoc on all of Ula'ula. While Moon chose to stay behind and tend to Sun's wounds, the Captains head off to various different locations to evacuate any innocent civilians caught in the beasts' attacks. After Sun is healed, he revealed to Moon about his new job of collecting Zygarde's component parts. When Moon noted that Sun reacted oddly when Gladion mentioned the Aether Foundation, she asked Sun if he had a connection with the organization. Sun revealed that the real reason he needed to collect money was to pay off the Aether Foundation, who had stolen an island owned by his great-grandfather. Before he can explain any further, Sun and Moon are approached by Salon Maiden and Looker of the International Police.

Anabel questioned Sun and Moon on what they know about the Ultra Beasts, but Sun was wary of the International Police, as he found their desire to protect and take in Pokémon used in crimes too similar to the goals of the Aether Foundation. When Anabel offered to pay Sun for his cooperation, he agreed to help and received six million yen as compensation. Moon then told Anabel about each of the Ultra Beasts that have appeared in Alola recently while Anabel revealed their actual species names as well as their codenames. The group is then attacked by Blacephalon, a new beast that emerged from one of the Ultra Wormholes. Together, Sun and Anabel battle Blacephalon and stun it long enough for Anabel to attempt a capture.

Blacephalon immediately broke out of the Poké Ball, revealing that they do not work as well on Ultra Beasts as they do regular Pokémon. Blacephalon retaliated by using Mind Blown on the group, forcing Anabel to get everyone out of the way. Sun and the others are saved by Tapu Bulu, who used a large gust of wind to blow both Blacephalon and its attack far away. Afterward, Kukui and Burnet arrive with the Mirage Berry meant for Tapu Bulu. Sun is initially reluctant to give the Berry away, as he felt that Tapu Bulu had no reason to help humans as it was a human who was responsible for the Ultra Beasts appearing in Alola in the first place. Moon disagreed with this statement and argued that if humans were the cause for the danger, then they should take responsibility by helping fix it as well. Sun and Moon then give the Mirage Berry to Tapu Bulu, which it readily accepts.

Later, Sun, Moon, and Anabel traveled to Poni Island. With Kukui and Burnet off on other business, Sun was left without any clues as to where to look for Tapu Fini, Poni's guardian deity. Hoping to find any kind of information as soon as possible, Sun went on ahead and landed on Poni Beach, only to be attacked by a pair of wild Crabrawler. The Crabrawler stole the Mirage Berry meant for Tapu Fini and ran off with it, forcing Sun to chase after them. Sun followed the Crabrawler to their hideout at Seafolk Village, only to find it littered with more Crabrawler. When Sun attempted to get the Mirage Berry back, the Crabrawler's leader, a Crabominable, attacked Sun and injured him to point where he could no longer move. Sun was rescued by Hapu, who used her Mudsdale to battle the attacking Crabrawler mob as well as summoning Machamp Shove to carry Sun while he can't move.

While Hapu fought, Sun had Machamp try to retrieve the Mirage Berry, but Crabominable easily knocked Machamp and Sun away into the sea. While the momentary distraction allowed Hapu to blind Crabominable with Mudsdale's Mud-Slap, the Woolly Crab Pokémon still showed the ability to accurately hit Mudsdale's weak points by firing off its pincers. By having Machamp shake the boat they were on with its strength, Sun rescued Mudsdale from Crabominable's next attack, allowing it to win the battle. With the Mirage Berry retrieve, the only task left was to deliver it to Tapu Fini, who had been watching the battle the entire time. Due to his injuries, Sun requested that Hapu deliver the Berry in his place, which she accepted. To Hapu's surprise, Tapu Fini presented her with a Sparkling Stone, making her the next Kahuna of Poni Island.

Afterward, Hapu decided to travel to her deceased grandfather's grave on Vast Poni Canyon in order to show him that she became a Kahuna like he was in the past. Seeing Hapu's love for her grandfather inspired Sun to travel with her. As they traveled, the Crabominable from before followed them in the hopes of joining Hapu's team. As she had her own team to raise, Hapu rejected Crabominable's request and suggested it join Sun's team instead. Crabominable reluctantly agreed to be captured and was given the nickname Dong. Hapu then revealed she was in possession of the Moon Flute and asked Sun if he was capable of playing it. Later, Sun and Hapu witnessed Nebby fly to the top of Vast Poni Canyon, where it met with another Cosmoem.

Hapu decided to postpone the grave visit and follow the Cosmoem to the Poni Altar. As they traveled, Sun learned about Solgaleo and Lunala, two Legendary Pokémon said to have come to Alola from another world, similar to the Ultra Beasts. Hapu also revealed the Moon Flute, along with the Sun Flute, is meant to be played at the Altar. The two are then attacked by Aether Foundation Employees, who demanded that Hapu come with them to the Poni Altar. Before they could attack, the Employees are defeated by a Xurkitree landing on top of them, having already been defeated by Gladion, who had Lillie with him.

While Sun was surprised to learn Gladion and Lillie were siblings, Hapu was surprised to see Lillie with the Sun Flute. Gladion couldn't play the Sun Flute, but Sun was able to, much to the latter's confusion. The guardian deities of Alola then appeared and took Sun and the flutes away. Sun, along with Moon, was taken to the Poni Altar, where he was given the Sun Flute while Moon received the Moon Flute. While Sun struggled to play properly at first, Moon realized the flutes worked only for them because of their promise to Tapu Bulu. Remembering how they felt when they made the promise, Sun and Moon successfully played the flutes, causing the Poni Altar to react.

The Altar released a bright light that caused Nebby and the other Cosmoem to evolve into Lunala and Solgaleo, respectively. After Anabel explained what the two Legendary Pokémon are and their connection with Cosmog, Anabel received a call from Looker, who reported that a large number of Ultra Beasts emerged from Po Town and have made their way to Poni Island. While Moon, Anabel, Gladion, and Hapu fought off the beasts, Sun confronted Faba, demanding that he return the island the Aether Foundation took from his deceased great-grandfather five years ago. Using his Spoink piggy bank, Sun gave Faba all the money he had collected and promised that once he finished his two other jobs, he would have everything he needed. Faba revealed to Sun that the island had already been converted into Aether Paradise, and the 100 million yen he jokingly suggested Sun gather back then wouldn't nearly be enough to return the island back to its previous state. Afterward, a giant Ultra Wormhole appeared before everyone, with a large Necrozma emerging from it. The hand grabbed Solgaleo, taking control of its body. The possessed Solgaleo captured Sun with its tail and jumped into the wormhole while Moon and Nebby followed after it.

At some point, Sun and Moon were separated from Nebby and Solgaleo and ended up trapped in the Ultra Deep Sea for six months. As they weren't in Alola, the native Nihilego mostly left the two alone. After changing into a new set of clothes, Sun and Moon chased after Lunala after it appeared flying above them. They went to where Lunala landed and found that it was being ridden by Dulse and Zossie of the Ultra Recon Squad. Dulse revealed to Zossie that he had met with the Aether Foundation to create Poké Balls capable of capturing the Ultra Beasts. Overhearing this, Sun demanded to know what the two strangers' connection with the Aether Foundation was.

Past

Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc

Sun in his first outfit

Sun debuted in The Grand Entrance and Delivery Boy Sun, where he encountered a girl named Moon while doing part-time work removing wild Pyukumuku from the Hau'oli City Beachfront. When the Team Skull Grunts that hired Sun came to check up on his work, they tried getting out of paying him by planting an extra Pyukumuku on the beach. When Moon pointed this out, the male Grunt had his Salandit attack her and then feign injury to force Sun to pay for its medical bills. Angered, Sun used his Alolan Meowth, Cent, to defeat the Grunts and forced them to flee. Afterward, Sun apologized to Moon for causing her trouble and offered to help her deliver a Rotom to Professor Kukui.

In The Delivery of Rotom and the Girl, Sun and Moon were attacked by the guardian deity of Melemele Island, Tapu Koko. After a quick battle, Tapu Koko ran away and left behind a Sparkling Stone, which Sun picked up. Later, Sun and Moon arrived at Professor Kukui's house on Route 1, where they found the man testing the moves of his Rowlet and Popplio.

Energy from a nearby Ultra Wormhole filled Dollar with energy, enabling it to use an incomplete version of Inferno Overdrive that defeated Gladion's Type: Null.

Sun in his Riding Wear

In PASM16, Acerola took Sun and Lillie to the site of the former Thrifty Megamart.

In PASM18, Sun and Lillie were approached by Sina and Dexio, a pair of Trainers from the Kalos region. After apologizing for the break-in, Sina and Dexio hired Sun to help them find the Zygarde Cells scattered across Alola. Sun accepted and received a Zygarde Cube to store the Cells he managed to find. Fearing that putting Lillie in danger would cause Nebby to use its powers again, Sun had Lillie stay behind and went to Po Town to begin his search.

Before he could explain any further, Sun and Moon were approached by Anabel and Looker of the International Police.

Sun's Spoink piggy bank
