Make a wish
Speaking with AZ back at the hotel, he tells us that Floette will choose the strongest Mega Evolution user, as only the strongest is able to control it. We then get a notification through the Z-A app. The next match will be against the mysterious Grisham who Urbain/Taunie says is likely using a pseudonym. This launches Main Mission 35: Reaching Rank A.
Not knowing who they are, choose “Let's ask Emma” when deciding who to call on for help. Go to the Looker Bureau and Emma will tell you that learning about Grisham is dangerous business. However, she agrees to tell you if you beat her in battle.
Emma’s showdown
Emma’s party is completely different to last time. Not only has she leveled up significantly, but she has a new ace with her level 58 Mega Malamar. She also has a level 57 Ampharos, Mawile, Lopunny, and Lucario. Emma’s gimmick is that she only uses Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution, and this means that she has good type diversity on her team. Many of these Pokémon are also very bulky so they are very difficult to take out before they have a chance to attack.
After you defeat her, Emma asks you how much you know about Team Flare. While Lysandre/L seems suspicious, he's actually fighting to save Lumiose. Rather than the old Team Flare, we are instead looking at a new Team as a threat, called Team Flare Nouveau. Grisham is apparently one of the Team Flare trainees, who went on to found Team Flare Nouveau, although Emma isn't sure that this is their real name either. She tells you to ask Mable at the Pokémon Research Lab for more information on Grisham.
What Mable knows
We walk in on Mable seemingly furious at the mayor when you arrive, shouting at him down the phone. However, when you ask her who Grisham is, she starts to act coy. She tells you that she used to be part of Team Flare, but that she took a plea deal so instead of jail she is stuck running the Research Lab. This is why she feels that she has to do what the mayor says, or else she could end up back in jail. She tells you the same thing as Emma. Grisham is part of the younger generation of Team Flare known as Team Flare Nouveau. She then tells you to visit Nouveau Café if you want to find out more.
Meeting the new guard
It turns out that the man who runs Café Nouveau is the Grisham that we are looking for, and the waitress is another member of Team Flare Nouveau known as Griselle. However, before Grisham will battle you, he wants you to discover the entire truth behind the creation of Team Flare, AZ’s involvement, and what is happening in Lumiose City today. He doesn’t want to tell you this at Café Nouveau, and instead gives you the address of an abandoned building where he wants to meet.
When you arrive at the building, Grisham tells you that the shop was once Lysandre Café. However, after the arrest of Team Flare, the café was shut down and no one wanted to rent out a building with such a terrible history. Team Flare Nouveau still uses the building as a base, and Grisham wants to show you inside so that you can better understand what happened in Lumiose City five years ago.
Griselle’s final gambit
While Grisham is ready to accept and trust you, you will need to prove your worth to Griselle before she will allow you to enter the café. She has a very powerful team, which focuses on Fire-type Pokémon. She has great type diversity and a new Mega Pokémon in a level 61 Mega Pyroar. She is also the first trainer that we’ll face who has Pokémon above level 60. She also has a level 59 Talonflame and Camerupt, and a level 60 Aerodactyl and Metagross. You will need a strong team to take her down, though the move Surf is your friend here as it has such a large area of effect.
Once you have taken Griselle down, she is more than happy to allow you inside Lysandre Café where Team Flare’s secrets have been buried.
