Forewarn (Japanese: よちむ Prophetic Dream) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV.
Effect
In battle
Forewarn shows the opponent's move with the highest power. If two or more moves are of the same power, one will be chosen at random.
In battles with multiple opponents, Forewarn will only show the highest power move out of all the moves known by the opponents. If multiple opponents have moves with the same power, one will be chosen at random equally from the collection of the highest-power opponent-move pairs. Forewarn can reveal a move of a non-adjacent opponent even if the move wouldn't be able to hit the Pokémon with Forewarn due to being out of range.
One-hit knockout moves are assigned a power of 150.
Counter, Metal Burst, and Mirror Coat are each assigned a power of 120.
All other damaging moves with a displayed power of "—" (i.e. moves that deal direct damage and many moves that have variable power) are assigned a power of 80. A move with variable power that has a displayed power (including moves that power up) will always use their displayed power, even if it can be modified by the move's effect. For example, Eruption will have a power of 150 regardless of the Pokémon's current HP.
Status moves are assigned a power of 1.
From Generation V onward, Beat Up is assigned a power of 80. Prior to Generation V, Beat Up's power was 10.
Prior to Generation VI, Hidden Power is assigned a power of 80. From Generation VI onward, Hidden Power uses its displayed power of 60.
If the opposing Pokémon is Dynamaxed, it will only assign a move from the Pokémon's base moves.
