As in the main series games, the Mystery Dungeon series makes use of evolutionary items. These are often unique to the Mystery Dungeon world and are used in place of main series methods not viable for use in Mystery Dungeon.
Evolution item

As in the core series games, the Mystery Dungeon series makes use of evolutionary items to make certain Pokémon evolution.

List of items
In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, evolution items do not exist, and all Pokémon with special evolution methods can be evolved instantly.
Link cable
The link cable takes the place of the physical link cables used to evolve Pokémon in Generations I, II, and III. It is found in Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team in Solar Cave. Pokémon that are typically evolved by trading are evolved using this item, as trading is treated differently in the Mystery Dungeon games and Pokémon themselves cannot be traded. The following Pokémon will evolve when a link cable is used (some Pokémon will evolve when the link cable is used in conjunction with another item):

* 064 Kadabra → 065 Alakazam
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, all evolution items were replaced with Evolution Crystals. Evolution Crystals can be found at the end of many optional post-game dungeons, or as rewards for doing missions.
* 067 Machoke → 068 Machamp
* 075 Graveler → 076 Golem
* 093 Haunter → 094 Gengar
* 061 Poliwhirl → 186 Politoed (with King's Rock)
* 079 Slowpoke → 199 Slowking (with King's Rock)
* 095 Onix → 208 Steelix (with Metal Coat)
* 117 Seadra → 230 Kingdra (with Dragon Scale)
* 137 Porygon → 233 Porygon2 (with Up-Grade)
* 366 Clamperl → 367 Gorebyss (with DeepSeaScale)
* 366 Clamperl → 368 Huntail (with DeepSeaTooth)

Coronet Rock
List of evolutionary items
The Coronet Rock is used in place of leveling up a Pokémon in Mt. Coronet or Chargestone Cave. Such a rock may be purchased from a Kecleon Shop.

The Sun Ribbon is used in place of leveling up a Pokémon at daytime. In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, it can only be found on the 20th floor of Wyvern Hill. Even when found, players still need a key to open the chamber that the Ribbon is locked inside. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it can be found in the Golden Chamber's Treasure Boxes. Pokémon evolved with the Sun Ribbon need other requirements fulfilled before the evolution can take place.

Lunar Ribbon
{{Item
The Lunar Ribbon is used in place of leveling up a Pokémon at nighttime. In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, it can only be found on the 20th floor of Northwind Field. Even when found, players still need a key to open the chamber that the Ribbon is locked inside. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it remains rare, and can only be obtained on Zero Isle North, East, West and South. Pokémon evolved with the Lunar Ribbon need other requirements fulfilled before the evolution can take place.

Reason: locations, buy and sell prices, locations of Evolution Crystals in DX

As in the core series games, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series makes use of evolutionary items to make certain Pokémon evolve.

In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, evolution items do not exist, and all Pokémon with special evolution methods can be evolved instantly.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, all evolution items were replaced with Evolution Crystals. Evolution Crystals can be found at the end of many optional post-game dungeons, or as rewards for doing missions.
