The Legend Plate also has a secondary priority of picking types according to defensive matchup against the target's types. For example against a {{2t|Rock|Ground}} it will pick {{t|Grass}} as it is effective against both its types and resists its Ground type, unlike {{t|Water}}. If multiple types are valid, such as against a pure {{type|Fighting}}, it will pick at random. Arceus can even change which type it is against the same target, as the most optimal type is recalculated every single turn.

Judgment (Japanese: さばきのつぶて Judgment Strike) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation IV. It is the signature move of Arceus and varies in type depending on the Plate held by the user.

Effect

Generation IV

Judgment inflicts damage and has no secondary effect. The type of Judgment depends on the type of Plate held by the user, being Normal-type if there is no held Plate.

Judgment is affected by Normalize.

Generation V

Judgment is unaffected by Normalize.

Generation VI onward

If Magic Room is in effect, Judgment's type will always be Normal regardless of the Plate held.

Judgment is unaffected by Normalize, Pixilate, Refrigerate, and Aerilate. However, it is affected by Ion Deluge (if the move would be Normal-type) and Electrify.

Judgment's type is unaffected by Z-Crystals held by the user, remaining a Normal-type move.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Judgement's type is now determined by which Plate Arceus last interacted with. However, the move's function drastically changes if the last plate Arceus interacted with is the Legend Plate. In battle, Arceus gains the ability to change type when using Judgment, based on the opponent's type. Specifically, it will pick a type that the target is weak to, prioritizing double weaknesses for dual-types. While selecting a move, Judgment will appear as the type that it will turn to if used that turn. This is similar to Unown's signature move Hidden Power.

The Legend Plate also has a secondary priority of picking types according to defensive matchup against the target's types. For example against a Rock/Ground it will pick Grass as it is effective against both its types and resists its Ground type, unlike Water. If multiple types are valid, such as against a pure Fighting-type, it will pick at random. Arceus can even change which type it is against the same target, as the most optimal type is recalculated every single turn.

Upon using Judgment, Arceus will first transform into whatever type Judgment has chosen, and then use the move. This means Judgment will always receive a same-type attack bonus. Arceus will transform even if Judgment misses the opponent. Arceus will not transform however, if the move fails due to paralysis or drowsy status conditions.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Reason: Does it have name and description in the Japanese version of Explorers?

While neither Arceus nor Judgment are legitimately obtainable prior to WiiWare games, the move still exists in Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky data—it has no description, and its name is $$$, however. It is a move with base power of 20, 7PP and 80% accuracy. The user targets all enemies in the room, and since Plates do not exist, it instead uses the user's primary type.

In the WiiWare games, Judgment's type depends on the version of the game played. In Keep Going! Blazing Adventure Squad, it is a Fire-type move; in Let's Go! Stormy Adventure Squad, it is a Water-type move; and in Go For It! Light Adventure Squad, it is an Electric-type move. This is due to the absence of Plates and to the fact that Arceus instead takes the type represented by each version.

The move is unobtainable and has only dummy data in Gates to Infinity as Arceus does not appear in the game.

In Super Mystery Dungeon, Judgment deals damage as if it were the same type as the user. Again due to the absence of Plates, this will almost always be Normal-type damage. However, Judgment will change to Water-type if the user's type is changed with Soak (but not if a type is added to the user due to Forest's Curse or Trick-or-Treat).
