Goh's Scizor (Japanese: ゴウのストライク Go's Hassam ) is the twelfth Pokémon that Goh caught in the Kanto region, and his thirteenth overall.

In the anime

Scizor debuted as a Scyther in Working My Way Back to Mew!, where it was the last Bug-type Pokémon native to the Kanto region that Goh needed to catch. It easily repelled Goh's Poké Ball and sent him and Scorbunny flying. Later, Goh battled the Mantis Pokémon briefly with his Scorbunny before finally catching it. Afterwards, it was seen with all of his other Pokémon before Professor Cerise suggested leaving it at his Laboratory.

In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, Goh used Scyther in his first Pokémon battle during the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. It battled Hodge's Mightyena, where it used Swords Dance before quickly falling to Mightyena's Fire Fang.

As a Scyther

In A Snow Day for Searching!, Goh used Scyther alongside some of his other Bug Pokémon to find the bone of a wild Cubone, which he later caught.

During a food shortage in Panic in the Park!, Scyther led a group of Goh's Bug-type Pokémon during a rebellion; and they targeted Darmanitan, Grimer, Ekans, and Stantler. When Golurk lost control, Scyther protected Goh's three Cascoon.

In JN056, Scyther volunteers to participate in training sponsored by the Elite Four of Kalos Wikstrom, in the event Goh and Scyther join forces with Ash and Farfetch'd. In the first phase, the group is stopped by a Probopass belonging to the Elite trainer, with great difficulty the group manages to go through this round.

In the second phase, Goh and Scyther enter a maze where they separate from the rest of the group. This time, the two have to collaborate while being attacked by Pokémon on the way. The third and final phase consists of a Trainers battle against Wikstrom and his Pokémon at the same time they have to get a key from a Klefki. During the battle, Goh and Scyther decide to go after the key, leaving Ash and Farfetch'd to battle Wikstrom and his Aegislash, which allows the group to end up winning all the tasks. In the end, the group ends up receiving a medal as winners of the event. Impressed by Scyther's performance, Wikstrom gives Goh a Metal Coat and offers to evolve Scyther, which then evolves into a Scizor.

Personality and characteristics

Scizor is a fast and powerful Pokémon, thus Goh had the most trouble catching it out of all the other Kanto-native Bug types he went after. It is enthusiastic about battling and staying active. In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, it followed Mimey's kung-fu exercises alongside its Trainer, Scorbunny, the Professor, and Chloe. It was later shadow-boxing as an effort to get Goh's attention to bring it to the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. Scizor is also shown to have a quick temper, as seen in A Snow Day for Searching!; when a group of Geodude threw snowballs at it, hitting it in the face, Scizor started chasing them. These behaviors particularly contrast with Goh's Pinsir, who tried to avoid being selected for the Flute Cup and gets along with Goh's smaller Pokémon like Caterpie. However, despite its rough demeanor, Scyther enjoys a hug, as seen in Best Friend...Worst Nightmare!, when it accepted one from Ash's Dragonite.

After its capture, Scizor quickly became one of Goh's most used Pokémon, next to Cinderace. Despite its strength and confidence, however, Goh and Scizor are not as in sync with each other compared to Cinderace, and Goh's cautious strategy in the first round of the Flute Cup led to Scyther's quick defeat. Scyther didn't appear too upset by the loss, returning from the Pokémon Center for another battle. Like Scorbunny, it seemed more concerned with how hard Goh was taking his first defeat. From JN056 onwards, Goh and Scyther are more aligned with each other, managing to pass the goals proposed by Wikstrom as a team.

Scizor is protective of other Pokémon, as seen in Panic in the Park!, when it shielded a group of Goh's Bug types from Darmanitan's attack. Scizor is also a natural leader, as demonstrated when it commanded Goh's Bug-types to attack Darmanitan and its allies.

On November 6, 2020, as part of Pokémon GO's Animation Week 2020 event, which was based on Pokémon Journeys: The Series, several Pokémon based on those that Ash and Goh encountered in the anime appeared more frequently in the wild, in raids, from 7 km Eggs, and during surprise encounters, with Scyther appearing in the wild and in surprise encounters. The event ran from November 6, 2020, at 8:00 a.m., to November 12, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. local time.
