Lunatone (Japanese: ルナトーン Lunatone) is a Rock/Psychic-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Gender differences

Lunatone is genderless.

Special abilities

Lunatone's ability, Levitate, allows it to avoid Ground-type moves such as Earthquake or Magnitude.

Behavior

Lunatone's power and health seems to be tied directly to the phases of the moon. When it is a full moon, Lunatone is at the peak of it's strength. Presumably when there is an absence of the moon, Lunatone is all but defenseless.

In the anime

Lunatone first appeared in Crazy as a Lunatone. A pair of theives calling themselves the PMC was after it due to wanting to get their hands on another outer-space Pokémon.

Liza and her Lunatone debuted in It's Still Rocket Roll to Me along Tate and his Solrock. Ash Ketchum's Gym battle against Tate and Liza and their Meteorite Pokémon was in the following episode.

Trivia

Origin

Lunatone is obviously a rock shaped like a cresent moon.

Name origin

Lunatone's name is a combination of the Latin luna, meaning moon, and tone, meaning shade or light, referring to not only this Pokémon's appearance but also its affinity for moonlight. It could also be a combination of luna and stone, simply referring to a moon-shaped rock.
