Snow Warning (Japanese: ゆきふらし Snowfall) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV. All Pokémon that have this Ability are Ice types. Prior to Generation VI, it was the signature Ability of Snover and Abomasnow.

Effect

In battle

Generation IV-V

Snow Warning summons a hailstorm in battle as soon as a Pokémon with Snow Warning enters the battle. Its effects are the same as Hail, but instead of lasting for five turns, it lasts for the whole battle until replaced. If a Pokémon with Snow Warning is sent out in the same turn as another Pokémon whose Ability affects the weather, the slower Pokémon's Ability will override the faster Ability.

Generation VI

In Generation VI, the hail will last only for five turns instead. This can be extended to eight turns if the Pokémon is holding an Icy Rock.

If heavy rain, extremely harsh sunlight, or a mysterious air current is present, Snow Warning will fail to activate.

Outside of battle

Snow Warning has no effect outside of battle.

• Just like the move Hail debuted one generation after all three other weather moves (Sunny Day, Rain Dance, and Sandstorm), this Ability debuted one generation after the three other weather-summoning Abilities (Drought, Drizzle, and Sand Stream).
