Standardizing "Available Pokémon" I'd like to update the formatting of the walkthroughs that have been done, but I've noticed for games that have three versions there doesn't seem to be much consistency in which Pokémon are included in the walkthroughs. In some cases, only the Pokémon found in the game(s) that the walkthrough focuses on are included, while in other cases the Pokémon from other version(s) are included. I figure there should be some sort of standard for these and I see three possible ways of going about it: The data for all three games is included, meaning the list can be copied unaltered from the location page. So, for the Diamond and Pearl walkthrough, the Platinum data would be included. Example The data for the other game or games is only included when it matches with the game(s) the walkthrough is concerned with. For the Diamond and Pearl walkthrough, data for Platinum would only be included when it is the same as either Diamond or Pearl. (It might be better to just glance at the example to understand this one...) Example Only the data for the game or games the walkthrough is concerned with is included. For the Diamond and Pearl walkthrough, no data from Platinum would be included, even when it overlaps with either Diamond or Pearl. Example I think that the last option would be best because it presents only the necessary information for the walkthrough. The first and second options contain information that is irrelevant and if a reader is interested in the available Pokémon for other games they can simply click a link in the walkthrough to go to the page of the location they are curious about. Additionally, the second option may be misleading if the reader assumes it is presenting all the information for the other game or games.--The Plausible Farfetch'd 07:21, 21 April 2011 (UTC) I think the best way is to only include info that is relevant to the version(s) in question, like adding only Diamond & Pearl availability for the DP walkthrough. Even if the other version(s) of a region has the same encounter rates, it doesn't make much sense to have Crystal rates in the Gold & Silver guide, for example - it's just extra, unnecessary info cluttering things up. If someone needs to find all available Pokémon for a certain location, there are pages outside of the walkthroughs that deal with that. Also, if there are Pokémon normally found in an area, but cannot be encountered until later (like an early route with a pond, but surfing/fishing cannot happen until later), that encounter data doesn't need to be added. By the time the player can surf, fish, or dive, then they're not concerned with the early walkthrough pages anymore - they'll be using the location or species articles to track things down. Now, I've noticed on the walkthroughs so far that each page (section) contains sub-sections based on geographic location, e.g. Littleroot Town, then Route 101, then Oldale Town, etc. However, I think it would improve the usability of the walkthroughs to begin each page/section with a short "to-do list" as a sort of advanced organizer, and dividing up the page according to that list. Geographic location divisions would still appear much as they do, but as bold subheadings in each "to-do" section instead. To-Do list items could include obtaining any necessary items, getting important phone numbers, fighting rivals, defeating gym leaders, capturing specific Pokémon for HM use, etc. If you'd like to see an example, I can create one. I didn't make one yet since, as I said, I'm brand new to this, and I wasn't sure if that would be too presumptuous. Also here are two important facts, firstly they can only be challenged and caught after defeating the Elite Four, and secondly if the special event Regigigas was transferred to another Gen. IV handheld game and then that Platinum game is deleted and restarted then they could be could be collected again (which is why I have two copies of that game for that purpose). Now for HeartGold and SoulSilver a trainer guide for regular trainers that can be re-battled can be set up. Since I decoded a long time ago and added information to this site that by defeating the Elite Four and later collecting all 16 badges it can be used to powerup their teams. There are 4 phases 1. first battle, 2. First rechallenge, 3. second rechallenge (requires the defeat of the Elite Four) 4. third rechallenge (requires all 16 badges). Also each phase must be completed once. Now my plan is to use a graph or something together with their team data, levels, and money earned after each battle. While the first phase doesn't need any help for collecting data since it is already posted, the 3 rematch phases do and so either of us can collect and save the data which will require some working on, especially the Kanto trainers need extra caution since the First rechallenge can only be done once. -Tyler53841 (talk) 16:31, 19 July 2012 (UTC) Since I am not busy for the summer I will start a new game for Platinum today and work on finishing it myself. Thanks for the update. — KC 17:19, 11 October 2012 (UTC) Also when you reach that hidden area of Castelia City through the Sewers where Eevee can be found for some reason the time it takes to enter into a regular battle (non-rustling grass) seems to take longer than other areas so I recommend that for finding Pokémon in that area Sweet Scent is a good choice to use to make it easier and less annoying. Lastly when you get to the Driftveil Drawbridge I recommend writing the same approach that I did for the original Black and White guide since collecting and selling the wings (excluding the Pretty Wing) is an effective way of making money. -Tyler53841 (talk) 18:27, 11 October 2012 (UTC) Black 2 and White 2 walkthrough. That way, people only need to read about the iteration that applies to them. There is still a few more adjustments including some of the coverage for a few legendaries but I don't need to tackle it right away. Also for the Black 2 and White 2 guide I was thinking of making a special page for a mini-walkthrough on the Dream Radar which includes the coverage for getting the Reveal Glass. I'll handle that page in the same fashion as the special Regi page I did for Platinum. At this rate the main series will be caught up when X and Y come out. I'll admit it is a good thing I have a second Platinum copy for data storage purposes with the special Regigigas on it which I trade between copies for catching the Regis before trading back as it helped with the accuracy of that page's information. (Advice on how to progress in the game and which Pokémon one should try and get the Hero/Heroine's Eevee to evolve into does not belong anywhere in the mainspace.) In lack of an appropriate location, I haven't added Meowth's mining property, but I guess you can just add that at the bottom of the Meowth article's Side game data section, below the sidegame infobox. The locations of and requirements for legendary Pokémon are found in the kingdom articles. I've only checked and confirmed some of them, so feel free to correct any errors - I'm confident there are some, but I haven't tested them yet. I assume that the "other rare Pokémon" you mention are the Pokémon found in the kingdom articles' Special Pokémon sections. Those I haven't confirmed are hidden, so if you can confirm any of those, just remove the hidetags. I would like to know your personal opinion about which main series Nintendo DS Pokemon game/s is/are the best (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Heartgold/Soulsilver, Black/White, Black2/White2) and which would you recommend people to spend the most time playing? For any reasons, like the most robust/vast postgame for example? I currently can't decide which should I give the most attention to. Some people have like hundreds of hours spent into any of the games, but I'm yet to play long-term a Pokemon game and would like to, too bad I'm indecisive. I liked Platinum and Heartgold, not sure how much and which better, but both are very good games and can see myself replaying them. I have started to play White and White 2 but am yet to finish them both, not sure why, I guess I'm not that sentimentally attached to them as to Gen IV. because the anime series, Best Wishes ruined some things and kinda put me off. and the depression and apathy kinda carried over to the games, ruining the full enjoyment from them I could have... I enjoyed their story the most, and having a second region with another eight Gyms means the post-game lasts just as long as the main game. Mt. Silver and the Battle Frontier add to this, as well. The others have their own merits, of course. The Sinnoh games have the Fight Area, and B2W2 have the World Tournament. As for the HG/SS walkthrough, it is complete (all relevant info is present), but still lacks some maps. They could all use some minor cleanup. —TylerGray 18:14, 14 January 2014 (UTC) /Gymtag So, while trying to change some templates across the Appendix: namespace from {{Party}} to {{Party/Single}}, I cam across an issue conflicting with your Gymtag template. It seems, somewhere along the lines, while trying to make the change, including the addition of {{Party/Footer}}, it seems to cause the Leader's Pokémon to not show up and the colored background to expand across the rest of the page. If you have any sort of solution for this, please tell me, otherwise I might just having to remove them from the walkthrough pages and change it to how it is here as to avoid this from happening. I just updated the parts with Reflection Cave and Snowbelle City; since Shaymin and the Forces of Nature don't appear in Kalos, a short mention in passing should be enough. The DNA Splicers will get the same treatment on Part 16, which should be done in a few more days. For instance, I created a working template where I'm getting the data for other use, but you can also pull those that are available after each badge and note them in the walkthrough as well if you so desire. This is an ongoing project for me, and I'm about to head back and check the rematches after having obtained the Knuckle Badge, a trek that is usually not taken because Trainers usually head straight to Slateport and don't return to the beginning area until they wrap around Route 115 - or, nowadays, when the rival offers to walk with the player after completing the Meteor Falls events. That way, the reader is aware of the potential battle and we don't need to list every newly-updated team after earning each new Badge. I was thinking that like what I did in the past with the Regi Trio in Platinum is create a separate page for dealing with the other Eon Pokémon (only because it is not a regular gameplay event and is easy to deal with). The event falls outside the main storyline, so that section should also be listed outside the main walkthrough. Call the page something like "Post-Game 1", and we can detail the Mirage Spot legendaries there as well. —TylerGray 12:50, 15 January 2015 (UTC) An update is that right now I am working on my spare OmegaRuby (which is where I have an extra copy at least one game in each generation for data and item storage purposes since Gen. III). Since it is mentioned that this event can take place after the first trip to Southern Island, I am going to confirm it first and set up my coverage while doing so, which fits with my preferred style of a hands-on approach to conformation (Which I awhile back had to update the FireRed and LeafGreen walkthrough as the Legendary Beasts only appear after the Network Machine quest which I confirmed). But anyway I will probably name the section as the Eon Pokemon Event as a temporary fix and when you get far enough in the coverage, you can move the material to whatever page you want to put it on and delete that page as it would no longer be needed. Lastly the Pokémon from that event will still be at the same level as the one you would get on your first trip to Southern Island, so it can be used in the main walkthrough though I think Latios and Latias' templates will be reversed for both parts of the coverage due to version. -Tyler53841 (talk) 05:28, 4 February 2015 (UTC) All done, My Eon Ticket walkthrough page is up. When you later get to the coverage for the Post-Game stuff you mentioned, you can move the stuff there and then post a delete tag on that page as it can be considered a temporary solution and it won't be needed later once you get to that part of the game. Also you can use the Latios and Latias templates I used to make it easier to handle that part of the walkthrough in the main game since they'll only need a few modifications for that and that they are at the same level anyway with the same moves. I arrived at 5:30 PM UTC/12:30 PM EDT, both times clearly well within Mesprit's time period, and the table was lighting up Azelf. I did some test edits to check on what would happen if I removed the correct one for the time period (Mesprit), and suddenly AQzelf was no longer lit up. Meanwhile, when I removed Azelf's switch, Mesprit suddenly lit up correctly. This is enough to suggest that the switch setup was flawed and needs to be rethought. However, if it can't be set based on a user's time zone (in the settings) instead of relying on UTC, I would suggest that it should not be there at all; computer users have access to a clock just a quick glance away, and it's better not to allow the chance for misleading information in the table; phone users might have to look around the room or go to the next room, but again, there's no issue with getting a little exercise to check the time (it's been reported in the news that one should be standing for two minutes for every half hour sitting, anyway). Just a few notes for you to know. A. For the Soaring Legendaries guide, for the special items related to certain legendaries I put them at the end of their respective group to display knowledge of where to look for them. B. As mentioned above for the Elite Four rematch coverage, only the new Pokémon needed to be directly mentioned which helped shorten the coverage. C. Since the new material is not as long as expected I am not going to move the Battle Resort coverage for now at least, you can make the final choice on that. Also I am thinking that with a collapsible template, the move tutor moves could be place in the Battle Resort coverage. To keep the information on the Pokémon necessary for completing the sight data for getting the National Pokédex (not counting Riolu or Manaphy on the Diamond and Pearl guide because that was not my work). My other request is to keep the information regarding the legendary golems as well as the keeping the links to the guide I made for catching them in Platinum (including the link in the Snowpoint Temple coverage for all three games) only because those three cannot be caught by normal means in Generation IV (same as Ho-oh and Lugia in Generation III).
