- Mega redirects here. For Crystal's Meganium in Pokémon Adventures, which is known as Mega in Chuang Yi translations, see Megaree.
Mega Evolution (Japanese: メガシンカ Mega Evolution) is a new transformation found only in the Kalos region. Mega Evolutions are identified by having "Mega" in front of their name.
In order to undergo a Mega Evolution, the Pokémon must be holding the applicable Mega Stone. An item containing a Key Stone must be used to resonate with the Mega Stone held by their Pokémon to trigger Mega Evolution; Calem and Serena get the Mega Ring, while Korrina uses the Mega Glove, Diantha uses the Mega Charm, and Lysandre uses an unidentified item resembling the Mega Ring. Mega Evolution can only occur in battle and disappears after the battle is over or the Mega-Evolved Pokémon faints. Each player may only Mega Evolve one Pokémon per battle, and cannot Mega Evolve a Pokémon again during that battle even if it is knocked out while Mega Evolved. Also, in online battles and the Battle Maison, the player's opponent gets to move first during the turn the player's Pokémon Mega Evolves.
Korrina, the Gym Leader of Shalour City, is said to know secrets about Mega Evolution. The Tower of Mastery is also related to Mega Evolution. The first Pokémon said to have been Mega Evolved was a Lucario.
Effects
A Mega-Evolved Pokémon has different base stats and can have a different Ability and type from its non-Mega Evolved form. Each Mega-Evolved Pokémon's base stat total is exactly 100 points higher than that of its base form.
