The Secret Key was featured in Unplugging Rotom (Heat, Wash, Mow, Fan, Frost), where it was found by Diamond at the Old Chateau after his and Pearl's second encounter with Rotom. As the word "Eterna" was written into the key, they deduced that it must fit into something found in Eterna City. Following Rotom into the Team Galactic Eterna Building, they soon found a room labeled "Secret Room", and used the key to unlock its door, revealing that the room contained all of Rotom's electric appliances, giving it access to all of its forms.
Trivia
- The Secret Key was both the first item that could be obtained over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and could be given to friends. However, this can only be done with the Japanese Wonder Card.
- This item shares its name with another Key Item found in Kanto in Generations I, III, and VII.
- This item is the first Generation IV event item to be distributed.
