The S.S. Tidal (Japanese: タイドリップごう S.S. Tiderip) is a ferry from the Hoenn region, featured in Ruby. Its captain is Mr. Briney.

The S.S. Tidal transports players from one location to another. Its main voyage takes players from Lilycove City to Slateport City, and vice versa, but, by having a range of tickets, other locations can also be reached. The tickets required are game-dependent, and only one can be obtained in-game: the S.S. Ticket, which leads to a special area after the Elite Four has been defeated. The rest must be obtained in a Nintendo event, but all give access to an island where a legendary Pokémon awaits capture.

Like Johto's S.S. Aqua, there are many Trainers on board the ship. Like on Johto's ferry, they may be battled on the journey—but only once. Each of these can be found in their own cabin. The player also has his or her own cabin. By sleeping in the bed in this room, the journey will come to an end, and the ship will arrive at its destination.

The tickets available vary depending on the game. Only the S.S. Ticket can be obtained in the game, which the player receives after entering the Hall of Fame or completing the Delta Episode. All other tickets can only be obtained from event distributions.

Hall
1F
The hall is the main part of the S.S. Tidal. When the player first enters, they start off near the entrance staircase, on the far south-western corner of the ship. There are cabins in the middle of the hall—eight rooms in total, one of which is the player's room. By sleeping in the bed in this room, the journey will come to an end, and the ship will arrive at its destination. On the north-eastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to the basement. There are portholes located on the northern side of the ship, which the player can look out them and see their current location, whether they are traveling against the currents of 133, or traveling over the seas to the Battle Tower. Mr. Briney and Peeko are also located on the northern hall, where they will welcome the player to his very own ship.
1F is the main part of the S.S. Tidal. In Generation III, when the player first enters the ship, they start off near the entrance staircase, on the far southwestern corner of the ship. There are eight cabins in the middle. On the northeastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to storage. There are portholes located on the northern side of the ship, which the player can look out them and see their current location, whether they are traveling against the currents of 133, or traveling over the seas to the Battle Tower. Mr. Briney and Peeko are also located in the northern hallway, where they will welcome the player to the ship.

In Generation VI, the cabins are instead spread along a corridor, with the entrance to the ship being in the northeastern corner and the entrance to storage in the southeastern corner. Due to the new design of the ship, portholes are no longer a part of it. On the first ride of the ship, the player will see Drake talking with Mr. Briney and Peeko before heading to the deck. Drake will be there on subsequent voyages.

Cabins
Cabins
In total, there are eight cabin. Within these cabins, await passengers of the ship, however they are bored and are eager for battle. These passengers come in different trainer classes, like Gentleman and Young Couples. However, some rooms contain passengers that do not want to battle, and will sometimes give away advice. In one room there is a strange man standing next to a bin, perhaps being sea sick, similar to another case, or perhaps another reason. He will give away 49. The player also has his or her own cabin. By sleeping in the bed in this room, the journey will come to an end, and the ship will arrive at its destination.
In total, there are eight cabins holding the ship's passengers. Some of them will battle, and some will not. In one room there is a Bug Maniac who gives away 49/63 if talked to. The player also has their own cabin. If the player sleeps in the bed in their room, the player's party Pokémon will be fully healed, and the ship will arrive at its destination.

Storage
On the northeastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to the storage of the S.S. Tidal. Down in the storage are several of the ship's crewmen taking a break or training with their Pokémon. The storage contains giant cargo containers that are located around the room. Two sailors are roaming around the room, ready for a battle. The item Leftovers is hidden in one of the three trash cans located around the room.

Basement
In Generation VI, a Backpacker from Unova can also be found here, giving the player a Sharp Beak if talked to. The Leftovers is now lying on the floor, instead of being hidden in a trash can.
On the north-eastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to the basement of the S.S. Tidal. Down in the basement are several of the ships crewmen taking a break, or training with their Pokémon. The basement contains giant cargo containers, that are located around the room. The two sailors are roaming around the room, ready for a battle. There are also In-battle effect item, hidden in one of the three trash cans located around the room.

Pokémon Adventures
Ruby & Sapphire
The S.S. Tidal first appeared in It All Ends Now VIII, where Mr. Briney was seen preparing to board it.

FireRed & LeafGreen
The ship reappeared in Mewtwo and Mew Too, where Mr. Briney was revealed to have managed to find the Faraway Island without the Old Sea Map, much to Ultima's astonishment.

Emerald
In Sneaky Like Shedinja, the S.S. Tidal was seen sailing towards the Battle Frontier. Aboard it was a set of five statues to be put on display at the Battle Tower.

In Verily Vanquishing Vileplume I, the ship arrived at the Battle Frontier, bringing along multiple Trainers for the Battle Dome challenge, including Ruby and Sapphire. It was also where Wanda and Riley got married in the next chapter.

In Epilogue, the S.S. Tidal was one of the ships seen transporting masses of people, including Gabby, Ty, the Trick Master, Brigette, Lanette, the blind boy, and Jack, to visit the Battle Frontier.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
Throughout the arc, the S.S. Tidal was used for travel between seabound locations by Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Mr. Stone, Steven, Drake, Mr. Briney, and Ultima. In PS608, the ship was sunk by a whirlpool created by Primal Kyogre.

Trivia
* If the player departs from Slateport City to Lilycove City, going to any porthole on the back wall and pressing A allows the player to see the ship sail through the currents on 134; if watched for the whole route, the captain will give the announcement that occurs halfway through the journey. The same can be done via Lilycove to Slateport, albeit only after the captain has announced that the ship is halfway to Slateport; if watched to the end, the ship will arrive in Slateport.
* Even after the captain announces that the ship has arrived at Lilycove/Slateport City, it will still show the ship moving.
* The Backpacker from Unova down in the basement has trouble speaking the regional language. This is a reference to the fact that Hoenn is one of the four regions based on Japan; the Backpacker hails from Unova, a region based on part of the United States of America, and would naturally have trouble with Hoenn's foreign language.
* While the S.S. Tidal does not appear in , there are leftover maps from Ruby and Sapphire that resemble the ones used in the S.S. Tidal. Because the corresponding tileset data is missing, the maps are composed of garbage tiles.

Pokémon world locations

The S.S. Tidal (Japanese: タイドリップ Tiderip) is a ferry from the Hoenn region. Its captain is Mr. Briney.

The S.S. Tidal transports players from one location to another. Its main voyage takes players from Lilycove City to Slateport City and vice versa, but other tickets allow other locations to be reached.

The tickets available vary depending on the game. Only the S.S. Ticket can be obtained in the game, which the player receives after entering the Hall of FameRSE or completing the Delta EpisodeORAS. All other tickets can only be obtained from event distributions.

Like Johto's S.S. Aqua, there are many Trainers on board the ship that can be battled on the journey, but only once. Each of them can be found in their own cabin. The player also has a cabin; if the player sleeps in the bed in this room, the ship will arrive at its destination.

Geography

1F

1F is the main part of the S.S. Tidal. In Generation III, when the player first enters the ship, they start off near the entrance staircase, on the far southwestern corner of the ship. There are eight cabins in the middle. On the northeastern corner of the ship, there is a staircase down to storage. There are portholes located on the northern side of the ship, which the player can look out them and see their current location, whether they are traveling against the currents of Route 133, or traveling over the seas to the Battle Tower.

Cabins

In total, there are eight cabins holding the ship's passengers. Some of them will battle, and some will not. In one room there is a Bug Maniac who gives away TM49 (Snatch)RSE/TM63 (Embargo)ORAS if talked to.

In Generation VI, a Backpacker from Unova can also be found here, giving the player a Sharp Beak if talked to. The Leftovers is now lying on the floor, instead of being hidden in a trash can.

S.S. Tidal in Pokémon Adventures

Pokémon Adventures

Ruby & Sapphire arc

The S.S. Tidal first appeared in It All Ends Now VIII, where Mr. Briney was seen preparing to board it.

FireRed & LeafGreen arc

The ship reappeared in Mewtwo and Mew Too, where Mr. Briney was revealed to have managed to find the Faraway Island without the Old Sea Map, much to Ultima's astonishment.

Emerald arc

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc

Throughout the arc, the S.S. Tidal was used for travel between seabound locations by Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Mr. Stone, Steven, Drake, Mr. Briney, and Ultima. In PS608, the ship was sunk by a whirlpool created by Primal Kyogre.

Trivia

The SS Tidal sailing on Route 134 (Slateport to Lilycove)
 • If the player departs from Slateport City to Lilycove City, going to any porthole on the back wall and pressing A allows the player to see the ship sail through the currents on Route 134; if watched for the whole route, the captain will give the announcement that occurs halfway through the journey. The same can be done via Lilycove to Slateport, albeit only after the captain has announced that the ship is halfway to Slateport; if watched to the end, the ship will arrive in Slateport.
 • Even after the captain announces that the ship has arrived at Lilycove/Slateport City, it will still show the ship moving.
 • The Backpacker from Unova down in the basement has trouble speaking the regional language. This is a reference to the fact that Hoenn is one of the four regions based on Japan; the Backpacker hails from Unova, a region based on part of the United States of America, and would naturally have trouble with Hoenn's foreign language.
 • While the S.S. Tidal does not appear in FireRed and LeafGreen, there are leftover maps from Ruby and Sapphire that resemble the ones used in the S.S. Tidal. Because the corresponding tileset data is missing, the maps are composed of garbage tiles.
