Template:ElementalTypes Template:TypeNotice Notable trainers that specialize in the Flying-type include Falkner of Violet City and Winona of Fortree City. This type is the only one of the seventeen that is never seen unpaired, barring the use of Conversion-like moves and abilities like Multi-Type and Color Change. Each other type, besides Fighting, has also been paired with the Flying-type on at least one Pokémon. Pure Flying-type status can be achieved by the Porygon family-exclusive move Conversion 2 after being hit by a Ground-type move.

Flying-type Pokémon:

Characteristics

Defensively, the Flying type is useful for its immunity to the common Ground-type move Earthquake and its resistance to Fighting. However, the Flying-type's weaknesses aren't rare types and can often offset the benefits of immunity to Ground, especially due to many combination Rock/Ground Pokémon.

Offensively, Flying-type moves are usually only useful when benefited by same-type attack bonus. The types Flying is super effective against aren't common, and being not very effective against Steel is never good.
