Eevee (Japanese: イーブイ Eievui) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Eevee is an "Evolution Pokémon". It is called this because it can evolve into one of currently seven different Pokémon through various means, more than any other currently known Pokémon. It is the starter Pokémon for the main character of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and the starter Pokémon for the rival in Pokémon Yellow.

Eevee can evolve three ways by evolutionary stone during each and every generation: it becomes Vaporeon with a Water Stone, Flareon with a Fire Stone, and Jolteon with a Thunderstone. These are the most common evolutions due to the ease at which they can be activated, however, later generations released four more evolutions.

In Generation II, like several other Generation I Pokémon, Eevee got new evolutions— two of them. Both of these evolutions are achieved through happiness. It can evolve into Espeon if, after it reaches the required happiness value, it gains a level during the day. If it reaches this value, and then levels up during the night, it evolves into Umbreon. In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, it evolves into Espeon between noon and midnight and Umbreon between midnight and noon. An Eevee cannot evolve into Espeon or Umbreon in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions, due to their lack of an internal clock; the Eevee must be traded to one of the Hoenn-based games in order to evolve into the two. The ironic part about this, of course, is that trading resets the happiness value.

In Generation IV, Eevee has two more evolutions added to its already large family, Leafeon and Glaceon. These evolutions, like their predecessors Espeon and Umbreon, take advantage of a newly-introduced evolutionary trigger: location of level-up. In particular, they evolve from Eevee when it is leveled up in Eterna Forest, where there is a moss-covered rock for Leafeon and on Route 217, where there is an ice-covered rock for Glaceon.

Biology

Physiology

Eevee is a mammalian creature with brown fur, a bushy tail that has a cream-colored tip, and a furry collar that is also cream-colored. Eevee has brown eyes and big ears. It has traits of raccoons, foxes, dogs, and cats. Eevee has an irregular genetic code and can sometimes evolve in accordance to its environment. Seven evolutions for this Pokémon have been discovered so far. Three of these evolutions can also be the result of Eevee being exposed to either a Fire Stone, Thunderstone or Water Stone.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Most of Eevee's offensive moves are Normal-type attacks; such as Tackle and Quick Attack, but it can also Bite its opponents and use Shadow Ball, however, it's unique in that it is unable to learn most other elemental attacks that other normal-types can utilize, at least not in its current state. Eevee can also learn supportive moves such as Helping Hand and Wish. Eevee is one of the four Pokémon that learn Trump Card. Some Eevee have the ability Adaptability, which makes any Normal-type attack that they use become stronger than when used by any other Normal-type Pokémon whose attack power is the same as Eevee's. Eevee is said to have an irregularly shaped genetic structure, enabling it to evolve into multiple Pokémon. This code may also shed some light on its ability, Adaptability.

Behavior

Eevee's behavior can be affected by its surroundings. Eventually, with enough alteration, the Eevee may evolve to better suit its surroundings.

Habitat

Eevee are quite rare in the wild. They sometimes live near cities and towns. It is possible for Eevee to live almost anywhere, and they may evolve to suit their surroundings.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime

Eevee first appeared in The Battling Eevee Brothers. A little boy named Mikey was hiding the Evolution Pokémon from his three older brothers because they wanted him to evolve it. However, when Mikey's Eevee single-handedly defeated Team Rocket, Sparky, Rainer and Pyro were able to accept the fact that Mikey wanted to keep his Eevee just the way it is.

Gary's Eevee debuted in The Rivalry Revival, defeating Ash's Pikachu. It evolved into an Umbreon some time before Power Play.

Sakura had an Eevee in Trouble's Brewing. By the time Ash and co. met up with Sakura again in Espeon Not Included, her Eevee evolved into an Espeon.

Ritchie consulted Professor Oak on advice on what Eevee evolution is best for his Eevee. However this was only mentioned in the dub and it is unknown whether he owns a Eevee in the first place.

May received an egg from a Daycare Worker in May's Egg-Cellent Adventure. The egg hatched into an Eevee in Time-Warp Heals All Wounds, and evolved into Glaceon before May met back up with the group in A Full Course Tag Battle!.

In the manga

Eevee is seen in Pokémon Special as a Pokémon experimented on by Team Rocket, in their tests to attempt merging Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres into a single Pokémon. The experiments gave Eevee the characteristic of being able to mutate into three of its evolved forms, namely Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon, though not at will. Red eventually captures this Eevee. When it evolves into Espeon, however, it loses its mutation ability.

Another Eevee was seen under the ownership of Karen, during her childhood as one of the children captured by Pryce. It is presumed that this Eevee eventually evolves into her Umbreon.

Like in the anime, Eevee is featured in The Electric Tale of Pikachu under the ownership of Mikey.

Eevee is owned by Coconut in Pokémon PiPiPi Adventure.

In the TCG

Main article: Eevee (TCG)

As in the games and anime, Eevee is notable in the TCG for being able to evolve into the most differently-named Pokémon cards, with its seven normal evolutions, as well as Dark forms of the Generation I evolutions and Espeon, and Light forms of the Generation I evolutions,

In the TFG

Other appearances

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Eevee only appears as a random trophy.

Trophy information

As adaptable a Pokémon as any yet discovered, Eevee's evolutionary progress changes to meet the conditions of its environment. So far, five evolutionary forms have been discovered and then catalogued for this unique Pokémon; Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, and Umbreon. All evolutions have special benefits.

Trivia

  • Fans have come up with a term to refer to all Pokémon which evolve from Eevee: Eeveelutions.
  • In Pokémon Ranger, all of Eevee's evolutions up to the third generation can be "captured". However, Eevee cannot even be found at all. This was eventually changed in the sequel.
  • Eevee's evolutions remain some of the most popular non-legendary Pokémon to be used by players of the Pokémon games.
  • Eevee's name is a palindrome, as is Girafarig and Ho-Oh.
  • Eevee's Generation I evolutions, Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon can be obtained at level 1 since an evolutionary stone is required for each, and its Generation II and Generation IV evolutions can be obtained at level 2, because they require leveling up while a certain condition is met.
  • Eevee and its evolutions all have a catch rate of 45.
  • Eevee and Tyrogue are the only Pokémon that can evolve into more than two Pokémon, if Wormadam's alternate forms are not counted as separate.
  • Whenever an Eevee is shown to belong to a main or recurring character (as has happened with Gary Oak, Sakura, and May), that character's Eevee is later shown to have evolved, but so far, the evolution of an Eevee has never actually been seen on-screen. Mikey's Eevee is the only Eevee shown yet in the anime that was never revealed to evolve; he vowed not to evolve it, in fact.
  • During Generation I, Eevee was the only Pokémon that could evolve into more than one species. With the release of several Pokémon in Generation II and on, however, its only distinction now is its ability to evolve into seven different species.
  • Eevee is also one of two Pokémon that evolve with the Thunderstone. The other is Pikachu.
  • In every Pokémon game, except Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald Version and Pokémon Colosseum, the player obtains an Eevee from someone or finds it in a building.

Origin

It shares traits of cats, rabbits, and chinchillas. It is possibly based on the folklore of Tanuki, who is said to be able to transform and is the alternative name for the Japanese racoon dog. It may also be based on the concept of dog breeding and the mutlitude of variations that arose from it.

Name origin

Eevee's name is a pronunciation of E-V, the first two letters in the word Evolution.

Eevee was originally going to be called "Eon," the suffix of all the evolutions of Eevee, which probably is a shortening of "evolution".
