It's another day on the road for our heroes: Ash and Gligar practice, while Dawn and Buneary study the latest Poké Chic fashion trends. They're approached by a Chingling, one of three Chingling that belong to Francesca the Pokémon magician. She demonstrates her singing Chingling act, but the one bold Chingling always ruins the show by jumping on Francesca to get attention. Ash suggests that a Pokémon battle will help settle Chingling, who's never battled before. Francesca is willing to give it a try, but Chingling's trial battle with Turtwig is disrupted by Team Rocket.
Ash and his friends easily stop Team Rocket from stealing Francesca's Chingling, except the experience hasn't changed Francesca's troublesome Chingling at all. And when she runs through her act again, she notices there are four Chingling instead of three—the fourth one is a Team Rocket robot Chingling impersonator! The robot blows a wall of smoke that keeps everyone in the dark until Team Rocket swipes the real Chingling. James then steals one of the stolen Chingling for himself, hoping it will make a perfect Pokémon companion for him and his absent Chimecho.
Our heroes track down Jessie and Meowth and rescue two of Francesca's Chingling, but James is still hopefully trying to convince "his" Chingling to join Team Rocket. When Chingling refuses, James orders Mime Jr. to battle it. Francesca catches up with them just in time and orders Chingling to fight back; Chingling follows her commands and beats Team Rocket! What's more, Chingling seems to be more mature than it was before, so Francesca and her Chingling are in good spirits as they bid farewell to Ash and his friends.
Plot
Ash was training with his Gligar and asked it to turn. Unfortunately, Gligar made a wrong turn and when Ash pointed this out, Gligar didn't know what to do and crashed. Meanwhile Dawn was flicking through PokéChic, a fashion magazine that showed Pokémon in outfits. Dawn then pulled out a vest for Buneary which Dawn had designed and her mother had made. Buneary loved it. When she hesitantly asks for Pikachu's opinion, his positive response makes her blush with happiness. Suddenly, Buneary heard a Chingling, which hugged Buneary, Pikachu, Ash and Dawn. Dawn scans Chingling on her Pokédex. Francesca then came for her Chingling. She said she was a Pokémon Magician and did a magic act making three Chingling appear from a tablecloth, a Pidgey appear, and started to make a flower appear from her wand but Chingling spoiled it.
Of course, Team Rocket were watching and Jessie suggested to steal the "enchanted" tablecloth until James and Meowth said it was a trick. Meowth and James decided to steal the Chingling, imagining the Chingling being used as a multi-purpose alarm clock and starting to sing like it. Meowth said that the Chingling wasn't the only one who could sing.
Francesca did not know what to do with her spoiled Chingling, so the gang decided to get it to battle. Francesca had never been in a battle before, so Ash and Dawn did their own battle first to see if Chingling could get the hang of it. Gligar had by this time ruined Buneary's vest so Dawn decided to take Buneary's vest off for the battle. In the middle of the battle, Brock stopped Ash and Dawn because he thought Chingling had seen enough to get the hang of it. When the battle started, Francesca told Chingling to use Astonish but it didn't attack. Turtwig then used Razor Leaf and knocked out Chingling.
Before they could do anything else, Team Rocket took Chingling. Ash told Turtwig to cut the strings, which predictably didn't work. Dawn then had Buneary use Ice Beam to cut the ropes, Happiny got ready to catch Chingling, Buneary used Bounce to get Happiny in the air, and Happiny used Pound. Team Rocket burst into song again for some reason. Ash thought Chingling had matured but Chingling then started hugging again, proving him wrong. Francesca tried the Three Part Harmony again, but Chingling kept hugging. Team Rocket next tried using a "Tone Deaf Mecha Chingling", making a smokescreen and stealing the Chingling. They put them in a line and James took one of them, knowing Chingling evolves into Chimecho. Meanwhile, Staravia noticed the Chingling and brought ash and Co. over. Ash used the "Tone Deaf Mecha" smokescreen on Jessie and Meowth and had Chimchar attack them with Flame Wheel. Team Rocket sang ♪We're blasting off in two-part Harmony♪ as they flew away with Dustox following them. James was still with the spoilt Chingling. He had Mime Jr. use Teeter Dance on it, causing Chingling to counter with Hidden Power and Confusion. This made Chingling mature and it asked for a hug.
