Walkthrough:Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Part 4

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
These pages follow the original Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The guide for those games can be found here.

Oreburgh City

Oreburgh City

Oreburgh City is located in central Sinnoh, between the Oreburgh Gate to the west and Route 207 to the north. It is a vibrant mining town that sprung up after the discovery of extensive coal deposits nearby. Workers from the Oreburgh Mine to the south often take breaks in the Oreburgh Gym between their exhausting work shifts.

Hit the Gym

Soon after exiting Oreburgh Gate, you are stopped by a Youngster near the northwest stairway. He warns that other Trainers may look down on you until you earn your first Gym Badge, and leads you to the entrance of the Oreburgh Gym. When you arrive, you find Barry standing in front of the door. Speak to him, and he informs you that the Gym Leader has gone into the Oreburgh Mine in the southeast part of town.

Time for a Trade

Visit the two-story building to the west of the Poké Mart to find a girl on 1F who would like to trade Pokémon. She is willing to part with her Abra in exchange for a Machop. Abra arrives holding an Oran Berry.

Trainer Tips
Machop, the Superpower Pokémon

Abra can be difficult to catch due to their low encounter rate and tendency to flee from battle. These factors make this a useful trade, but be sure to catch a spare Machop on Route 207, as the Rock Pokémon of Oreburgh Gym are vulnerable to Fighting moves. Grass and Water Pokémon, like Turtwig and Piplup, will have an advantage, but Fire Pokémon like Chimchar will appreciate the backup.

Pokémon Center

Be sure to visit the local Pokémon Center to rest after your trip from Jubilife City, and to prepare to challenge the Oreburgh Gym.

B1F

On the basement floor, you are immediately greeted by the nearest attendant. She introduces herself as Teala, a Trainer's guide to the Pokémon Wi-Fi Club, and gives you a Pal Pad. This notebook allows the user to register other Trainers as friends; afterward, they may connect with those friends over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in order to trade and battle.

Please note: As of 2014, online connectivity through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is no longer supported.

Oreburgh Mine

The coal retrieved from the Oreburgh Mine is the city's leading energy source. The local Gym Leader can often be found helping out here when not at the Gym.

Meet the Gym Leader

The Gym Leader can be found on the south side of the coal slab, clearing away some rocky debris with Rock Smash. He explains that fallen boulders must be cleared out of the way, and that you could do this too with the Badge from the local Gym. Once he leaves, you can find him back inside the Oreburgh Gym.

Leader: Roark

Call Me Roark the Rock!

The Oreburgh Gym specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. Rock-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-type Pokémon, while Rock-type Pokémon are weak to Fighting-, Grass-, Ground-, Steel-, and Water-type moves.

The Gym features a layout that presents Trainers with a choice: take the main path and defeat the two Gym Trainers, or forgo the prize money and experience rewards to challenge the Gym Leader directly.

VS Roark

Roark leads with his Geodude, a Rock/Ground Pokémon. Due to this type combination, it takes massive damage from both Grass and Water attacks. His Onix has the same moves, but can also use Screech to lower the target's physical Defense, allowing it to deal increased damage with Rock Throw. Cranidos does not suffer the same 4× weaknesses as the others, and Pursuit allows it to strike before the target can switch out of battle.

Oreburgh Mining Museum

Oreburgh Mining Musuem, Interior

The Oreburgh Mining Museum is a large, single-story building located in the northeast part of the city. The musuem contains rare displays and attractions about coal mining and the Oreburgh Mine. Entry is free of charge.

Fossil Regeneration

The Scientist behind the counter studies Pokémon fossils. He claims to be on the verge of a breakthrough that will allow him to regenerate living Pokémon from these specimens, and hopes to reach that point soon.

After obtaining a certain item, you are able to venture underground and search for your own fossils. Return here and turn in any that you may find, and his regeneration procedure turns it into a living Pokémon!

Onward!

As you approach the entrance to Oreburgh Gate, you are nearly run over again by Barry. He excitedly mentions how Eterna City is the nearest location with another Gym to challenge, and how Route 207 to the north is impassible without a Bicycle. He then rushes off toward Jubilife City.

Jubilife City

The Crew with Blue Hair

Take a moment to rest at the Pokémon Center before heading north toward Route 204. Near the city limit, you find Professor Rowan and Dawn/Lucas being confronted by two men with blue hair. Noticing your arrival, Rowan says that he cannot stomach their nonsense, and asks that you show them some manners. The two men demand that the professor hand over his research, and threaten to injure his assistant if he does not comply. Dawn/Lucas then joins you in a Multi Battle against the mysterious thugs.

Defeated, the two Galactic Grunts flee to the north. Rowan explains that Pokémon seem to release some type of energy upon evolving, a mystic power that he believes cannot be controlled. Team Galactic seems determined to use this power for something. Having witnessed both you and Dawn/Lucas in battle, he states how he made the right decision in entrusting you each with a Pokédex. The professor and his assistant then leave southward.

Dress for Success

Immediately after Rowan and his assistant leave, you are approached by a man from Jubilife TV. As thanks for witnessing such an impressive battle, he gives you a Fashion Case. This case is used to store Accessories and Backdrops, used by Trainers when dressing up their Pokémon. The man informs you that the TV station is offering its facilities for Trainers to do just that, and that there are even prizes to be won.

Pokémon Lottery Corner

The Pokémon Lottery Corner is run by the attendant at the service desk. In this game, a random five-digit number is generated each day and compared to the Original Trainer ID number of an entrant's Pokémon. Prizes are awarded for full or partial matches.

There are 13 Backdrops that can be obtained this way. After all Backdrops have been won, no further prizes are awarded for matching only the rightmost digit.

To the left of the desk, there is also a Trainer that can be battled once per day. The specific opponent changes based on the day of the week.

2F

On 2F, speak to the man in the hallway to receive one of three mask Accessories. The version received matches your first partner Pokémon.

The northern doorway leads to a gallery, where photos of dressed-up Pokémon are displayed. Trainers may use the fitting room here to dress up their Pokémon with Accessories, and may then choose to display a photo of that dressed-up Pokémon in the gallery. After dressing up a Pokémon and taking a photo, an Interviewer will appear outside of the gallery entrance to inquire about the photo.

3F

Ranking Rooms

On 3F, there are two rooms to the north: the Group Ranking Room and the Global Ranking Room. These rooms each contain three machines, which note the rankings from players in the player's group and all players, respectively. The center machine is initially under maintenance.

A Mystery Unlocked

A man in the yellow carpeted area works as a TV producer here. Speak to him, and he asks for your opinion on TV. Use the easy chat system to provide certain phrases—"EVERYONE HAPPY", then "WI-FI CONNECTION"—to unlock the Mystery Gift function. There are also additional phrases that may be provided to unlock special wallpapers for the Pokémon Storage System.
