Walkthrough:Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Part 3

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
These pages follow the original Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The guide for those games can be found here.

Jubilife City

Jubilife City

Jubilife City is located between Route 202 to the south, Route 203 to the east, Route 204 to the north, and Route 218 to the west. It is the most modernized city in the region, and features a Trainers' School, Jubilife TV station, Pokétch Company headquarters, and Global Trade Station.

Meet Up with Dawn/Lucas

When you enter the city, you are approached by Dawn/Lucas, who asks if you have been catching any Pokémon. She/He then suggests visiting the Trainers' School for tips on Pokémon training, and informs you that Barry had visited the school a short time ago.

Trainers' School

Trainers' School, Interior

The Trainers' School stands in the middle of the city, across the street from the Pokémon Center. Barry can be found inside, reading the blackboard in the front of the room. Speak to him to deliver the Parcel; he opens it to find a pair of Town Maps, and gives the spare to you. After reviewing the map for a moment, he rushes off to visit nearby Oreburgh City and challenge the Gym there.

The blackboard displays basic information about the various status conditions that may affect a Pokémon.

Status conditions

BRN Burn Halves damage dealt by physical moves. Inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn.
Fire-type Pokémon are immune to this condition. A burn lingers after battle.

Elsewhere in the school, one student's notebook contains an essay about Pokémon Trainers. Two School Kids in the eastern room are eager to practice battling; defeat both of them to receive TM10 (Hidden Power).

Global Trade Station

The Global Trade Station stands in the southwest part of the city. It once allowed access to the Global Trade System, a network that let Trainers trade their Pokémon over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with others from around the world. The building is inaccessible until after earning the first Badge.

Please note: As of 2014, online connectivity is no longer supported. Though it is still possible to enter the building, the Global Terminal's features are no longer accessible.

Win a Free Pokétch!

As you move toward the north side of town, you are stopped by a man near the Pokémon Center. The man introduces himself as the president of the Pokétch Company, which manufactures a brand of smartwatch known as the Pokémon Watch, or Pokétch for short. He is surprised to find a Trainer without one, and informs you of a promotional campaign that his company is currently running. Participants must locate three Clowns around the city and answer a trivia question posed by each one. A correct answer is rewarded with one of three Coupons. Collect all three to win a free Pokétch!

Trainer Tips
The Pokétch Company's Trivia Campaign
Correct answers are marked in bold.

  • The nearest Clown can be found behind the Pokémon Center, and gives out Coupon 1.
"Does a Pokémon grow by defeating others and gaining Exp. Points?" (Yes / No)
  • The next Clown can be found at the entrance to the Jubilife TV building, and gives out Coupon 3.
"Can a Pokémon hold an item?" (Yes / No)
  • The remaining Clown can be found outside the Pokétch Company building, and gives out Coupon 2.
"Just like Pokémon types, the moves of Pokémon also have types?" (Yes / No)

Speak to the president again after earning all three Coupons to redeem them and receive your brand new Pokétch.

The Pokétch's Digital Clock app

The Pokétch, which displays the Digital Clock app by default, now appears on the Touch Screen.

The president mentions how other apps can be added to the watch to make it even more useful. He encourages you to test out your new device, then leaves. Tapping the red button allows the wearer to cycle through each of its apps, which by default includes the Digital Clock, Calculator, Pedometer, and Pokémon List apps.

Jubilife TV

The Jubilife TV station can be found in the north-central part of the city. The company is responsible for broadcasting all of the television shows seen throughout the Sinnoh region.

One of the Clowns from the Pokétch Company's trivia campaign is stationed at the entrance, blocking the way for the moment.

Pokétch Company

The Pokétch Company headquarters is located in the northwest part of town. The company is known for the manufacture of the Pokétch and several of its applications. The building has three floors and also serves as the residence of the company president and his family.

1F

The president can be found near the reception desk on the ground floor. The company is currently developing several new applications, but none are ready for release to the public. Return and speak to the president after meeting certain conditions to obtain the latest apps!

Cast the Line

A Fisherman can be found in the gate to the west, where the city connects to Route 218. Speak to him to receive an Old Rod; with this fishing rod, you can now cast your line at any body of water to reel in Water-type Pokémon. The Old Rod is a low-end model, and is often only able to hook Magikarp.

Route 203

Route 203

Route 203 leads east from Jubilife City to Oreburgh Gate. Despite being so close to a big city, the path features a relaxed and rural atmosphere. After passing through the tunnel, Oreburgh City is only a stone's throw away.

Rival Battle 1

Barry approaches you soon after you leave Jubilife City. He says that he has gotten tougher since the your last meeting, and wants to see if you have done the same.

After the battle, Barry promises to become the world's toughest Trainer. He mentions that the first step toward that goal is to take on the Oreburgh Gym, then rushes off again.

Oreburgh Gate

Oreburgh Gate, 1F

The Oreburgh Gate is a small cave located between Route 203 to the west and Oreburgh City to the east. The ground-level tunnel simply connects the two areas together. Rocky debris initially blocks access to the deepest part of the cave.

1F

A Smash Hit

Soon after entering the Oreburgh Gate, you are stopped by a Hiker. He recognizes you as a new Trainer, and decides to give a gift to his new fellow friend of Pokémon. He hands out HM06 (Rock Smash), a field move that clears rocky debris. However, Trainers must first earn the Badge from Oreburgh Gym in order to use it outside of battle.

Trainer Tips
Hidden Machines

Hidden Machines, or HMs for short, can be used to teach new moves to compatible Pokémon. After earning the required Badge, these moves can be used to bypass obstacles in the field in order to reach new areas. Unlike TMs, HMs can be used an unlimited number of times, but these important moves cannot be forgotten by Pokémon on their own. Think carefully when using them!
