Walkthrough:Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Part 16

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
These pages follow the original Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 216

Route 216

Route 216 is a treacherous mountain road leading west from Mt. Coronet's north end to Route 217. Deep snowdrifts make it impossible to ride a bicycle here, and in some places, the snow is so deep that it cannot be run through. In addition, the constant snowfall causes hail in every battle.

Snowbound Lodge

A cabin known as the Snowbound Lodge can be found on the west side of the route. Inside, you find other weary travelers who have also taken refuge from the harsh weather. After hiking through Mt. Coronet and braving the winter weather, your Pokémon are likely due for a rest. Take a moment to climb into the cozy bed and examine the blankets to restore them to full health. The next city is still a good distance away, so be sure to return here to rest whenever necessary.

Route 217

Route 217

Route 217 runs northward from Route 216 to Acuity Lakefront. Like on the previous route, it is impossible to ride a bicycle and also difficult to run through the deep snowdrifts. Additional snowfall constantly blows down from atop Mt. Coronet, causing unending blizzard conditions that reduce visibility and cause hail to fall during every battle.

Braving the Blizzard

The narrow path from Route 216 opens into a large snowfield. Move north from Ace Trainer Dalton and hug the eastern side of the large group of trees. Grab the Iron a few steps to the northeast, then turn northwestward. Pick up TM07 (Hail) and enter to the western cabin.

Speak to the Hiker inside to learn that he dropped a Hidden Machine while pushing through the blizzard. The item can be found a short distance away to the northeast; examine it to obtain HM08 (Rock Climb). If spoken to again, the Hiker explains that he had already given up on finding the item, and allows you to keep it. As a reward for your honesty, he gifts you an Icicle Plate that he had found under the snow.

Leave the Hiker's cabin and move eastward to find a Max Repel nearby. Turn north-northeastward and pass by Skier Bjorn. Enter the second cabin and speak to the woman inside to receive a Spell Tag. A single icy rock can be found in the tall grass behind the cabin.

Trainer Tips
Covered in Ice

Bone-chilling to the touch, this ice-encrusted rock emits a special type of energy. When an Eevee is leveled up nearby, this energy causes the Pokémon to evolve into Glaceon.

Move westward from the second cabin and follow the edge of the trees around until the path narrows again. Battle past Black Belt Luke and Ace Trainer Olivia, then pass through the second patch of tall grass to reach Acuity Lakefront.

Acuity Lakefront

Acuity Lakefront

Acuity Lakefront leads northeastward from Route 217 to Snowpoint City, and provides access to Lake Acuity to the north. The area does not experience the blizzard conditions of the previous route, giving travelers much-needed relief from the howling winds.

Access Denied

After traveling all the way from Canalave City to find out what happened to Barry and his investigation, you find a pair of Galactic Grunts blocking the path to Lake Acuity. If spoken with, one of them reveals that they are here standing guard so that the Snowpoint Gym Leader does not disturb the group's plans. It seems as though Barry is on his own for the moment.

Snowpoint City

Snowpoint City

Snowpoint City is located at the northern edge of the Sinnoh mainland. Harsh winds blow down from atop Mt. Coronet, bringing low temperatures and constant snowfall. The Snowpoint Gym can be found in the city's center, and a temple dedicated to a certain Legendary Pokémon stands to the north. A port on the south side allows travelers to reach the region's northeast landmass.

Snowpoint Port

Like Canalave City, Snowpoint City also makes use of a ferry to allow travel to and from mainland Sinnoh. The Sailor here mentions "a great Trainer recognized by the Pokémon League", and how he looks forward to having someone like that on his ship. It seems as though riding the ferry will have to wait for the moment.

Time for a Trade

Visit the northwestern house to find a young woman who would like to trade Pokémon. She is willing to part with her Haunter in exchange for a Medicham. Haunter arrives holding an Everstone, which prevents its Evolution into Gengar.

Northeast house

The northeast house belongs to an elderly man. When spoken with, he asks if you would like to hear a trendy saying. Agree to learn a new word or phrase for use in the easy chat system. This can be done once per day, for a total of 32 phrases. Receiving a new trendy phrase does not alter any game mechanics.

Snowpoint Temple

Snowpoint Temple is a large structure on the north side of the city. A female Ace Trainer stands guard at the entrance, and explains that only the chosen few are allowed to enter. It seems that exploring the temple will need to wait until later.

Snowpoint Gym

Leader: Candice

The Diamond Dust Girl!

The Snowpoint Gym specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. Ice-type moves are super effective against Dragon-, Flying-, Grass-, and Ground-type Pokémon, while Ice-type Pokémon are weak to Fighting-, Fire-, Rock-, and Steel-type moves.

The Gym features four floors of ice tiles, with ice-covered ramps between floors. Challengers must slide around the Gym and use their momentum to destroy snowballs blocking the path through the middle of Gym to the Gym Leader. Begin by standing two steps north of the Gym guide and slide eastward, then north to the second snowy tile. Go west to break the first snowball, climb up the stairway, then slide west and south. Climb this next stairway to reach a snowy tile, then slide north until you stop at a snowball. Slide eastward to destroy the second snowball, then go west and south to stop at another snowy tile. Slide eastward through two snowballs on the lowest level. Move south and west, climb the stairway, then move west and south again. Climb to the uppermost level, then move south and east around the corner across the three snowy tiles here. Slide north then west across the two snowy tiles in the Gym's northwest corner. Move south then east to destroy another snowball. Slide east again, then north to the Gym's northeast corner. Move to the second snowy tile to the west, then slide southward. Turn westward to destroy three more snowballs on the lowest level. Move southwest up the next two stairways again, then slide north, west, and north again. Slide eastward from here to destroy the final three snowballs on the lowest level. Slide southwest and climb up the three stairways, then move south and east to return to the entrance. From this point, slide north to reach the Gym Leader.

VS Candice

Candice leads with her Snover, a Grass/Ice Pokémon. As soon as it appears, its Snow Warning Ability summons a hailstorm that damages all non-Ice Pokémon. Its low physical Defense leaves it vulnerable, but beware: if damaged but not defeated in the same turn, Avalanche's power is doubled! Her Sneasel has higher Speed and physical Attack, which pairs well with Faint Attack's guaranteed hit and the effect of Taunt. It takes massive damage from Fighting-type moves, but Fire and Rock attacks also fare well. Medicham is a wild card; though it is not Ice type, it does have an Ice attack. Attack with Flying- and Ghost-type moves for greatest effect. Finally, her Abomasnow's Snow Warning summons another hailstorm when it appears. Though its Speed is still relatively low, it is more offensively-oriented than Snover. Wood Hammer and Avalanche are its strongest attacks, while Swagger and GrassWhistle let it further harass its target. Hit it with Fire moves for best results, but Fighting and Rock moves, among others, are also effective.
