History

Red, Green & Blue arc

In the manga, Tangela is given the nickname Angela (Japanese: モンちゃん Mon-chan) and is Erika's main battling partner. It debuted on Blame It on Eevee, where it hopped in front of Red on his bicycle at Cycling Road and was nearly run over. In the next chapter, Angela battled Red's Saur when Red and Bill confronted her, thinking that she had been working with Team Rocket. Saur uses Vine Whip, attempting to pull it in, but Angela tosses Saur away with little effort and defeats it.

Yellow arc

In Whacked by Marowak!, Angela accompanied its Trainer to meet up with Yellow in Celadon City. Starting from Playing Horsea, Angela battled Lorelei's Shellder army that were invading Celadon City. Angela uses Bind, but the Shellder break free from its grasp before switching their aim towards Erika, whom Angela protects. Angela uses Bind and Growth to absorb some of the energy. In The Legend, Angela and Erika watch as the light from Yellow and Pika's Megavolt caused the area around the city to bloom with flowers, restoring it with life.

Personality and characteristics

Not much is known about Tangela's personality, although it seems quite close to Erika, being the only one of her Pokémom whom Erika decided to give a nickname. It also acts as one of Erika's main battling partners, being used in several important battles and events, such as defending Celadon City from the Shellder army's attack.

Pokémon Zensho

Tangela briefly appeared in PZ05 as one of the many Pokémon Erika was seen to own.

Main series

Tangela in the original series

Erika's Tangela appeared in Pokémon Scent-sation!. During Erika's and Ash's Gym battle, Tangela faced off against Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur attacks with Vine Whip, but Tangela uses Constrict to pull Bulbasaur closer before following up with Stun Spore, paralyzing Bulbasaur. It is then promptly recalled after Bulbasaur is deemed unfit to continue.

Personality and characteristics

Very little is known about Tangela's personality, as it was only used in the first part of Ash's Gym battle with Erika. From what was seen of it, Tangela seems to be a very strong Pokémon that uses its vines and Stun Spore combination in order to incapacitate its opponent.
