Plot

A cargo ship is delivering crates of Berries to shore, but soon gets caught in a thick mist. One of the crew members asks to turn around, but just as the captain says it's fine, the ship starts shaking. Just then, singing is heard, and the crew spots a Lapras draped in shadow, glowing with a blue light. The Lapras then leads the crew out of the mist, confirming to the captain that the rumors were true.

As Terapagos sleeps on Nosepass's head in the Brave Olivine's Captain's Deck, Diana shares with the Rising Volt Tacklers rumors of a strange white mist and a mysterious singing Pokémon who guides lost sailors to safety. As Liko and Roy are delighted to hear this, Diana also says that it may be a shining Lapras, and while she not a hundred percent sure, Friede points out that there's a good chance it's still a special Lapras. This strange song having been heard around the world for a long time, Diana even tried to scope it out herself, but eventually gave up. Roy wants to search for it right away, but Orla and Mollie think it won't be that easy. Diana shows possible sightings of where Lapras may be, which she got with Dot's help. Friede and Murdock are impressed with how fast it took Dot to pull this off, and Dot says that it's pretty easy to find this kind of stuff online, which Diana is quick to agree with. However, Liko is more impressed with her grandmother at the moment seeing how she managed to befriend Dot so quickly. Diana points out that her searches can become easier thanks to the Rising Volt Tacklers. Dot then locates someone who might have spotted Lapras, so Friede suggests going there first.

Liko, Roy and Friede talk to the man they find, the captain from before, who says it was a beautiful song. The captain shares that the fog showed up in the open sea, where Lapras saved them. Friede asks where Lapras is now, and the captain is unable to gave them any more information. They notice one of the crew members restocking some Berries, and the captain says that the ship shook fiercely, knocking the cargo overboard, to Liko and Roy's shock. Nevertheless, the captain is still happy that the ship was unharmed and he and his crew got to meet Lapras. The groups decides to head back to the ship, the captain reassuring them that Lapras will be there to save them from the fog.

Back on the ship, Friede has Nosepass point North as Liko looks up Lapras on her Pokédex. Liko is amazed to learn that the Transport Pokémon can understand human speech. Roy points out that he's met a group of friendly Lapras himself, who come to his island and let the villagers ride on their backs. Liko asks if this Lapras will let her ride its back, and Roy is positive that it will, exciting her. Ludlow and Dot's show up, Dot wanting to record everything on her Rotom Phone. Liko thinks this would be tough for a Nidothing video, but Dot says this is just for her personal interest. The ship starts descending towards the water, making Liko and Roy believe there's another air leak. However, Friede reassures them that he's putting the ship down in the water so it will be easier to search for Lapras. The ship lands on the seabed, Ludlow pointing out this used to be a boat after all. Liko and Roy then spot one of the crates from the cargo ship that went overboard. Liko spots more crates near a layer of rocks on the seabed. Terapagos senses something, and the kids think it is Lapras. Friede confirms that they have reached their target area, telling Liko, Roy and Diana to keep a lookout as Murdock prepares some celebratory donuts. Roy wonders what Lapras's song will sound like, thinking Fuecoco would like to sing with it too. He also is happy to think it may be easier to reason with than Galarian Moltres, and Liko is quick to agree. However, Ludlow warns them both to be wary of making assumptions.

The mist suddenly starts to appear, which Friede thinks is a sign of Lapras. Liko is surprised by the sudden appearance of the mist, and hears the same song the sailors before. Liko sees Terapagos getting happy, thinking Lapras may be nearby. Friede looks carefully for Lapras when the ship suddenly shakes violently. Captain Pikachu's ears pick up on Lapras's song in the distance, and Friede is happy to know that the rumors were true. The shadow of Lapras appears in front of the ship, though Dot and Friede can't really see it clearly in all this fog. Noticing Lapras leaving while singing its song, Friede decides to go after it, but Diana thinks that something is off here. Terapagos starts crying out to Lapras. Liko and Roy decide to call out to the Transport Pokémon too, but a sudden cry of distress from Fuecoco startles them. They turn around to see Fuecoco and an Ambipom fighting over a Tamato Berry, as well as a Toedscruel swiping the rest. Toedscruel blinds Fuecoco from behind with Mud-Slap. Liko commands Sprigatito to use Quick Attack on both thieves, forcing them to drop their plunder and retreat. Liko and Roy think they mysteriously disappeared, but Quaxly and Dot spot a strange shadow speeding away from the ship.

The fog dies down, and kids see that Lapras has vanished. As Quaxly washes off the mud on Fuecoco's face, Terapagos is feeling sad that Lapras isn't here anymore. Everyone gathers in the meeting room, thinking that Lapras must have dove underwater. While Orla and Mollie are relieved that Lapras saved them, Roy and Ludlow tell them how Ambipom and Toedscruel appeared and tried to steal food from them. Friede finds it confusing how both Ambipom and Toedscruel were found out here in the open ocean instead of their usual grassy region habitats, which leaves the rest of the crew baffled too. Dot then shows everyone the strange shadow she saw speeding away after the two thieves retreated. Liko and Roy thinks it may be a boat, which may indicate that it was their trainer. Friede becomes curious about the sudden timing of the fog, and Liko suddenly realizes that it's Lapras itself using Mist, as Diana points out. Friede then gets an idea, proposing to go back and meet Lapras again. He has Orla get to the Engine Room and leaves Ludlow in charge of steering. However, he has something different in mind for Murdock and Mollie.

The ship makes a sharp U turn as Liko and Roy wonder how they will find Lapras. They then notice Mollie and Murdock taking all the Pokemon food out of storage and onto the deck under Friede's orders. Meanwhile, Friede goes out onto the Wing Deck, right as the fog kicks up. The ship starts to shake violently again. Liko catches a sliding Terapagos as Sprigatito jumps on her shoulder. Friede has Cap create a vortex with Volt Tackle that completely clears out the fog. Cap points to the ship's side, revealing Ambipom and Toedscruel among lots of other Pokémon, aquatic or otherwise, riding on top of a Wailord covered in scars. The two thieves then make their move, climbing aboard the ship to steal the food on the deck. Witnessing the shocking revelation, Friede realizes that the effort to guide lost ships was all just a big sham by Lapras. A nervous Liko gazes upon Lapras, revealed to have battle scars on the right side of its neck and its left eye, as well as a damaged shell.
