This Ability effect may be in need of research. Reason:
Does the Ability still activate in the cases below?
The Pokémon with this Ability faints as a result of the move that makes contact
The Pokémon with this Ability or the attacking Pokémon is hiding behind a substitute
The attacking Pokémon already has a non-volatile status condition (such as a poisoned, paralyzed, or burning Pokémon -- can this Ability change the existing status condition?)
If this Ability activates from a hit by a multistrike move, but the attacking Pokémon is healed by a held item such as a Lum Berry, can the Ability still activate again from another hit in the same turn? You can discuss this on the talk page.
When a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a move that makes contact, there is a chance that the attacking Pokémon will become either poisoned, paralyzed, or asleep.
If a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a multistrike move that makes contact (such as Fury Swipes), each hit has an independent chance to activate this Ability. If Effect Spore causes the user of the multistrike move to fall asleep, the move ends immediately.
If a Pokémon is immune to some of the status conditions, then the chance of inflicting each of the remaining conditions remains constant, so the total chance of successfully inflicting a condition decreases.
Generation III
The chance of Effect Spore inflicting a status condition is 10%, with a 3.3% probability for each status condition.
Generation IV
The chance of Effect Spore inflicting a status condition is 30%, with a 10% probability for each status condition.[1]
Generation V
The chance of Effect Spore activating is 30%, with a 9% chance of poison, 10% chance of paralysis, and 11% chance of sleep.[2]
Grass-type Pokémon and Pokémon with Overcoat are affected normally by Effect Spore.
May inflict a bad status condition on the attacker who hits it with a direct attack.* When the Pokémon is hit with a direct attack like Tackle or Scratch, the attacker is sometimes afflicted with the Poisoned, Paralysis, or Sleep status condition!*
When the Pokémon is hit with a contact move like Tackle or Scratch, the attacker is sometimes afflicted with the poisoned, paralysis, or sleep status condition!
When the Pokémon is hit with a contact move, like Tackle or Scratch, the attacker is sometimes afflicted with the Poisoned, Paralysis, or Sleep status condition.

Vileplume
Contact with the Pokémon may inflict paralysis on the attacker.
When Vileplume gets hit by a move that makes contact, a cloud of purple spores scatters from the center of its flower. When the opponent breathes in the powder, it becomes paralyzed.
Effect Spore played a major role in The Power of Us. Team Rocket attempted to raid Fula City's Pokémon Research Pavilion, but only got away with a solution of Effect Spore made by Toren. They later dropped it on accident, which released a toxic gas that in turn triggered a devastating fire. Both disasters endangered Fula City, but Ash and the citizens worked together to successfully combat both.
