Prime Video, also marketed as Amazon Prime Video, is a subscription video on demand service and digital media store owned and operated by Amazon. Originally launched on September 7, 2006 as Amazon Unbox in the United States^[1], the service is now available worldwide (excluding Mainland China, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea and Russia). The service was renamed Amazon Video on Demand on September 4, 2008^[2], then Amazon Instant Video on February 22, 2011^[3], followed by Amazon Video from September 2015^[4] and finally Prime Video in 2018. Some content is offered for free to customers with either an Amazon Prime or dedicated Prime Video subscription; other content is available for rental or purchase.
