Spotlight (Japanese: スポットライト Spotlight) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation VII.
|This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason: Is this effect transferable via Baton Pass?
You can discuss this on the talk page.
Spotlight causes the move's target to become the center of attention, forcing all attacks from the target's foes to target it instead of their intended target. This effect overrides any other forms of redirection, either through moves like Follow Me and Rage Powder, Abilities like Storm Drain and Lightning Rod, or Ally Switch.
If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Spotlight, the user's Special Defense stat rises by 1 stage.
Generation VIII onwards
Spotlight cannot be selected in a battle.
|The user shines a spotlight on the target so that only the target will be attacked during the turn.
|This move can't be used. It's recommended that this move is forgotten. Once forgotten, this move can't be remembered.
|Bold indicates a Pokémon gains STAB from this move.
Italics indicates a Pokémon whose evolution or alternate form receives STAB from this move.
In other games
Spotlight turns the target into a decoy. Its effect is identical to that of Substitute from games prior to Gates to Infinity.
|It makes the target into a Decoy, which will then become the enemies' primary target.
