The scene left off with {{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} discovering that [[Sparky]] is right next to them. They assume [[Ritchie]] is here. Ritchie comes out and finds Ash. Ash asks what Ritchie is doing here. Ritchie explains that after the [[Indigo League]], he heard about a mysterious {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} here and spent extensive time researching the location. According to his sources, Ritchie thinks that this Pokémon is on an island nearby, so they take a small boat over there.  
{{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} are pleasantly surprised to see [[Sparky]] in front of them and his {{pkmn|Trainer}}, [[Ritchie]] soon approaches them. Ash asks what Ritchie is doing here. Ritchie explains that after the [[Indigo Plateau Conference]], he heard about a mysterious {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} in the [[Whirl Islands]]. His extensive research has led him to [[Ogi Isle]], and Ash recalls his [[EP210|own encounter]] with something near [[Blue Rock Isle]]. Ash boasts about his natural instinct, but {{an|Brock}} figures that there is a reason that both they and Ritchie are on Ogi Isle. Ritchie points out a nearby island, and soon he and the group row over to it.


Meanwhile on the island, a kid is swimming around with a {{p|Lanturn}} and a shadow seems to be under the water as well. The kid seems to be aware of it. When he sees the gang coming on the boat he quickly tells the shadow to hide. They ask about the island. He informs them of his name, [[Oliver]]. Ash asks if he knows anything about the mysterious Pokémon that's supposedly around here. Oliver seems nervous, almost as if he was faking his uncertainty. With no answer, the gang goes off to comb the island. When the coast is clear, something pulls Oliver under, a {{jo|Silver|child}} {{p|Lugia}}! They are being spied upon by an underwater [[Team Rocket]] lab. In it resides a {{tc|Team Rocket Grunt}} and [[Dr. Namba]]. Dr. Namba now knowing about the Lugia, dispatches a submarine for an attempt to capture it.

Oliver thinks the coast is clear, but two {{tc|Team Rocket Grunt}}s stream the footage of Silver back to [[Dr. Namba]], who is watching his operation closely from his underwater lab facility. Inside the base, Dr. Namba orders his agents to move forward and retrieve "mysterious Pokémon X", the code name for Silver. A submarine soon jets off from the base to complete the task. The two Rocket agents quickly net Silver. Oliver orders Lanturn to attack them, while he and Silver dive underwater to escape. As the three swim away, they are forced to change course when the Rocket submarine surfaces. The pursuit continues, and Oliver swims passed Ash and the others, with Silver instantly catching their attention. The [[Team Rocket trio]] also watches the scene unfold from their [[Team Rocket's mechas|Magikarp submarine]]'s periscope. [[James]] instantly recognizes Silver as a Lugia, remembering {{OBP|Lugia|M02|the one}} from the [[Orange Archipelago|Orange Islands]].
With the child Lugia no longer a secret, they ask Oliver why the child Lugia is friends with him. Oliver explains that a while ago Lanturn and he were caught in a storm while swimming. The waves were too rough and sent him under the water. Later, he finds that he is back on land with the child Lugia by his side. After that, the parent Lugia had soon shown itself to him. Ash says he saw the parent before, but not the child. Then they turn to [[Luka]], and she explains that the {{DL|Legendary artifacts|Silver Wing}} responds with the presence of the parent Lugia. The parent Lugia swims out of the water next to them, with an angered look on its face. The Silver Wing starts to glow red. Everyone starts to convince the parent that they won't do anything to the child, which eventually calms it down. The child goes back to the parent and they go off swimming for a while. Ash, knowing that Luka has diving equipment, asks to see what they're doing. Underwater, the parent Lugia is feeding the child, who then goes towards Ash and gives him a playful headbutt. Above the water, Luka catches the parent jumping above the surface along with the child.  


Back at Team Rocket's lab, [[Jessie]] and [[James]] look around a bit in their new uniforms. They find their way to where Dr. Namba is seeing that [[Butch]] and [[Cassidy]] are giving their report. Dr. Namba wants something so Cassidy orders Jessie and James (disguised) to go get it. Jessie starts to go into a tantrum but James politely goes out with her. Jessie is dying to get even with them.  
Oliver swims towards the shore and Ash's group. Suddenly Team Rocket duo, [[Butch]] and [[Cassidy]] emerge from their submarine. As Cassidy casts a net out to catch Silver, Ash calls out {{AP|Bayleef}}, and she slashes the net with a {{m|Razor Leaf}} attack. Cassidy and Butch call out their {{p|Houndour}} and {{p|Hitmontop}} respectively. Bayleef is struck down by Houndour's {{m|Flamethrower}} and Hitmontop's {{m|Rolling Kick}}. Ritchie's {{p|Pupitar}}, [[nickname]]d Cruise, uses {{m|Take Down}} on Hitmontop. Houndour breathes a Flamethrower, but it proves useless against Cruise's hard shell. Hitmontop approaches with a {{m|Triple Kick}}, but Bayleef tangles him up in her {{m|Vine Whip}}. Bayleef sends Hitmontop spinning back at Houndour, so Cassidy and Butch quickly [[recall]] their Pokémon. Cassidy calls for a full-steam-ahead approach, but [[Luka]] arrives on the scene and crashes her vessel into the sub. Cruise whips up a {{m|Sandstorm}}, forcing Team Rocket to retreat. As the sub drives, the Team Rocket trio follows in their submarine.


Back on land, Oliver is swimming with the child Lugia once again and notices another child Lugia. The original child Lugia goes after it, thinking it's another {{p|Lugia}}, but Ritchie figures out that it's a decoy. By the time this is discovered, it's too late. With the child following it, the decoy turns into a cage. Soon, Butch and Cassidy's sub comes out and they laugh at them, except Jessie, James, and {{MTR}} pop out in their {{DL|Team Rocket's mechas|Magikarp submarine}} to try to grab the catch. Jessie and Cassidy argue for a while and eventually fight each other. Cassidy wins and uses SmokeScreen to get away with the child Lugia.
Luka is glad to see everyone is fine. Ash pats Silver and tells Ritchie that [[M02|he has seen a Lugia before]] in the Orange Islands. Oliver admits that Silver cannot fly yet, making it vulnerable to being stolen, and apologizes for lying earlier. With the child Lugia no longer a secret, they ask Oliver about it. Oliver explains that a week ago, he and Lanturn were caught in a storm while swimming. The waves were too rough and sent him under the water. James isn’t too thrilled about the "uncool" uniforms, but Jessie is rather blunt and declares they must finally make this plan succeed. The trio enters the room as Dr. Namba orders Butch and Cassidy to catch Lugia. He reveals that {{p|Charizard}} and {{p|Feraligatr}} have failed him in his experiments to develop a Pokémon power magnifying project. Dr. Namba is feeling incredibly hungry so Cassidy orders Jessie to go fetch some food from the galley. James takes Jessie aside, and outside of the room Jessie vents her anger at being ordered around by her nemesis, Cassidy.
 
Luka leaves everyone for the time being while she sails to Ogi Isle to restock her supplies. As everyone rests an odd Lugia appears in the distance and calls Silver over. Ritchie is quick to spot rivets on the Lugia's body and realizes everything is a ploy. However, it's too late, as the Lugia robot cages Silver in time for Butch and Cassidy to collect their catch. The Rocket trio surfaces in their Magikarp submarine, and soon the two Rocket gangs' argument boils over into a battle. Cassidy orders out her Houndour and Jessie calls on her {{TP|Jessie|Arbok}}. Houndour blazes through Arbok’s {{m|Poison Sting}} attack and singes the Rocket trio. As Oliver swims closer on his Lanturn, and Ash's friends aboard a rowboat behind him, Butch sends out a mechanical arm to collect Silver's cage. Ash sends out Bayleef and she slices the claw with her Razor Leaf attack. Butch sends out Hitmontop, but Bayleef uses a Vine Whip to make quick work of it. Cassidy orders her Houndour to use {{m|Smog}} to create a cover. Cassidy and Butch grab Silver in its cage and begin their escape. Their large submarine sinks Team Rocket's own sub, and the large wake knocks Oliver and the others into the ocean. Ash and his friends resurface as the Smog clears. They stare hopelessly at the open waters as both Team Rocket and Silver are out of sight.

Meanwhile, Butch and Cassidy of Team Rocket are hatching a plan to capture the baby Lugia in hopes of eventually catching its parent. Jessie and James also try to catch the adult Lugia, but are unsuccessful.

Plot

Ash and his friends are pleasantly surprised to see Sparky in front of them and his Trainer, Ritchie soon approaches them. Ash asks what Ritchie is doing here. Ritchie explains that after the Indigo Plateau Conference, he heard about a mysterious Pokémon in the Whirl Islands. His extensive research has led him to Ogi Isle, and Ash recalls his own encounter with something near Blue Rock Isle. Ash boasts about his natural instinct, but Brock figures that there is a reason that both they and Ritchie are on Ogi Isle. Ritchie points out a nearby island, and soon he and the group row over to it.

Meanwhile, on the island, a local boy, Oliver plays with his Lanturn and good friend Silver, who remains only a shadow silhouette underwater. He soon spots the group’s rowboat and calls for Silver to hide in the meantime. Ritchie and the others make land and introduce themselves to Oliver. Ash declares that they are looking for a mysterious Pokémon. Oliver seems nervous, almost as if he was faking his uncertainty before swimming off to avoid more questions. Ritchie is suspicious, but with no answer, the gang goes off to comb the island. When the coast is clear, something pulls Oliver under the water, his friend Silver, a young Lugia.

Oliver thinks the coast is clear, but two Team Rocket Grunts stream the footage of Silver back to Dr. Namba, who is watching his operation closely from his underwater lab facility. Inside the base, Dr. Namba orders his agents to move forward and retrieve "mysterious Pokémon X", the code name for Silver. A submarine soon jets off from the base to complete the task. The two Rocket agents quickly net Silver. Oliver orders Lanturn to attack them, while he and Silver dive underwater to escape. As the three swim away, they are forced to change course when the Rocket submarine surfaces. The pursuit continues, and Oliver swims passed Ash and the others, with Silver instantly catching their attention. The Team Rocket trio also watches the scene unfold from their Magikarp submarine's periscope. James instantly recognizes Silver as a Lugia, remembering the one from the Orange Islands.

Oliver swims towards the shore and Ash's group. Suddenly Team Rocket duo, Butch and Cassidy emerge from their submarine. As Cassidy casts a net out to catch Silver, Ash calls out Bayleef, and she slashes the net with a Razor Leaf attack. Cassidy and Butch call out their Houndour and Hitmontop respectively. Bayleef is struck down by Houndour's Flamethrower and Hitmontop's Rolling Kick. Ritchie's Pupitar, nicknamed Cruise, uses Take Down on Hitmontop. Houndour breathes a Flamethrower, but it proves useless against Cruise's hard shell. Hitmontop approaches with a Triple Kick, but Bayleef tangles him up in her Vine Whip. Bayleef sends Hitmontop spinning back at Houndour, so Cassidy and Butch quickly recall their Pokémon. Cassidy calls for a full-steam-ahead approach, but Luka arrives on the scene and crashes her vessel into the sub. Cruise whips up a Sandstorm, forcing Team Rocket to retreat. As the sub drives, the Team Rocket trio follows in their submarine.

Luka is glad to see everyone is fine. Ash pats Silver and tells Ritchie that he has seen a Lugia before in the Orange Islands. Oliver admits that Silver cannot fly yet, making it vulnerable to being stolen, and apologizes for lying earlier. With the child Lugia no longer a secret, they ask Oliver about it. Oliver explains that a week ago, he and Lanturn were caught in a storm while swimming. The waves were too rough and sent him under the water. Later, he found himself back on land with Silver by his side. Suddenly, the parent Lugia soon shows up in a rage. Luka notices a red light coming from her locket, and inside her Silver Wing is beaming. Oliver and the others plead their cases, and Lugia settles down. Luka watches as her Silver Wing also settles and considers if it has some connection to Lugia. The parent nudges its child affectionately, and soon the pair dives into the water. Ash is keen to watch the Lugia swim, so Luka provides everyone with the dive gear to do so. Underwater, the parent Lugia is feeding the child, who swims goes towards Ash, and gives him a playful headbutt. Above the water, Luka catches the parent jumping above the surface along with the child.

Back at Team Rocket's lab, Jessie and James look around a bit in their new black Team Rocket uniforms. James isn’t too thrilled about the "uncool" uniforms, but Jessie is rather blunt and declares they must finally make this plan succeed. The trio enters the room as Dr. Namba orders Butch and Cassidy to catch Lugia. He reveals that Charizard and Feraligatr have failed him in his experiments to develop a Pokémon power magnifying project. Dr. Namba is feeling incredibly hungry so Cassidy orders Jessie to go fetch some food from the galley. James takes Jessie aside, and outside of the room Jessie vents her anger at being ordered around by her nemesis, Cassidy.

Luka leaves everyone for the time being while she sails to Ogi Isle to restock her supplies. As everyone rests an odd Lugia appears in the distance and calls Silver over. Ritchie is quick to spot rivets on the Lugia's body and realizes everything is a ploy. However, it's too late, as the Lugia robot cages Silver in time for Butch and Cassidy to collect their catch. The Rocket trio surfaces in their Magikarp submarine, and soon the two Rocket gangs' argument boils over into a battle. Cassidy orders out her Houndour and Jessie calls on her Arbok. Houndour blazes through Arbok’s Poison Sting attack and singes the Rocket trio. As Oliver swims closer on his Lanturn, and Ash's friends aboard a rowboat behind him, Butch sends out a mechanical arm to collect Silver's cage. Ash sends out Bayleef and she slices the claw with her Razor Leaf attack. Butch sends out Hitmontop, but Bayleef uses a Vine Whip to make quick work of it. Cassidy orders her Houndour to use Smog to create a cover. Cassidy and Butch grab Silver in its cage and begin their escape. Their large submarine sinks Team Rocket's own sub, and the large wake knocks Oliver and the others into the ocean. Ash and his friends resurface as the Smog clears. They stare hopelessly at the open waters as both Team Rocket and Silver are out of sight.

Errors

  • Ash claims that the mysterious Pokémon had flown over them, but it had actually swum beneath them.
  • When Luka appears on the scene to save Ash and his friends from Butch and Cassidy, she addresses Cassidy by name, though the two had never met before.
  • In the English dub:
  • In the Brazilian dub, Rolling Kick is referred to as Pontapé Duplo (literally "Double Kick").

Dub edits

  • In the Latin American dub, during Team Rocket's motto, Diana Pérez, Jessie's voice actress and José Antonio Macías, James's voice actor, switch dialogs, causing Jessie to say her lines with James voice and vice versa. The reason of this is unknown, though it was probably a joke from the actors, because they seemed to attempt to imitate the voices of each other.
  • For some reason, the English dub shuffles the footage around at the beginning of the episode to include Ritchie. In the original Japanese version, he doesn't appear until after the title card.
  • The scene of Ash and his friends riding in a boat to the island was cut from the English dub.
  • In the English dub, when Oliver talks about having not seen the mysterious Pokémon, he talks about personal hygiene. In the original Japanese version, he reiterates that he has not seen it and that the island would be full of people looking for it.
  • In the original Japanese version, the Namba name gag is used.
  • In the English dub, Oliver says that Silver is about the same age as him, while in the original Japanese version, his age is not mentioned.
