Talk:Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs
Proposing a change from "tracks" to "locus"
I've been meaning to bring this up since the game was first announced, but I never got around to typing up my reasoning. I realize it'll be difficult to change others' opinions now, with everyone having gotten used to the title "Tracks of Light," but I might as well try.
I propose that we use the translation of the title "Locus of Light," rather than "Tracks of Light." While it's true that the word used in the title, 軌跡, can be translated as "wagon tracks," that really doesn't seem to fit the premise of the game so much. As stated in the Wikipedia article for the term, however:
軌跡 (kiseki, locus) are wheel tracks left behind by an automobile or the like. It can also be taken to indicate a pioneering action, or emotional growth.
See Locus (mathematics)
The word "tracks" doesn't really carry the same meaning. On the other hand, "locus" can have different meanings:
- Locus of control, psychological term referring to "a person's belief about what causes the good or bad results in his life"
- Locus, a mathematical term referring to a collection of points, "typically applied to a condition which defines... a curve"
Also, "Locus of Light" just plain sounds cooler.
Therefore, I think the title "Locus of Light" would work better than "Tracks of Light." 梅子❄❅ 06:03, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with this reasoning. TTEchidna 06:05, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- If you want to be more simpler you could just say locus can be defined as "a center or source, as of activities or power"[1]. So it's basically Locus (Loci?) of Light => "source of light". ~ solaris 06:11, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- ...yes. There is that too. Thank you, Sol. 梅子❄❅ 06:15, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well, the translation was supposed to be going for the "pioneering action, or emotional growth" definition of the word, as my dictionary has it: (前人の行いの跡) -- (traces of what predecessors have done). Part of the reason it sounds so strange as "tracks of light" is because I couldn't think of a better way to write the above meaning in a name without it getting it way too long (and all the dictionary suggested was tracks, which I should have known people would pull the other meaning). I think people should take this caption line from corocoro into consideration: "新たな光に導かれて、ポケモンレンジャーの戦いが始まる!!その活躍が軌跡となる!!" -- "Guided by a new light, the Pokemon Ranger battle begins!! Those actions become tracks!!" (for a future generation) and then the proposed: "Guided by a new light, the Pokemon Ranger battle begins!! Those actions becomes a locus" (a curve/ a collection of points). Though I agree that the "tracks" translation sounds stupid, I still think they are going for that meaning of a previous generation doing something so the next generation can follow off of that... Any thoughts? (Yaminokame 11:16, 3 February 2010 (UTC))
- Graar, why didn't you bring this up before everything was already moved??? *shakes fist* I kid, I kid. Actually, I had looked around extensively for other uses of the term in relation to this game for clues of what was intended, I must have overlooked the Corocoro caption... D8
- Maybe "trails" would be better, then...? But at this point I think we should wait either for more info, or for the game itself (unfortunately I won't personally get my hands on the game until March 19 at the earliest - waiting until I'm in Japan to buy it :/).
- But it's not that much of a loss that we went ahead and moved it. Locus of Light still sounds awesome, and the LoL acronym is amazing. :3 梅子❄❅ 16:06, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- ごめんなさ~い m(*T▽T*)m I wish I would have noticed earlier :( I've been too wrapped up in final exams and hadn't been able to check the recently changed pages D: Yeah, I didn't really like the 'tracks' either :/ It's WAY too easy to pull the wrong meaning out of 'tracks' :/ I agree though, LoL does sound better too haha ^^ Unfortunately, no matter what we do it doesn't feel like that specific meaning of the word will be brought out very well :s I think 'trails' could be potentially better though :) I've seen too many people say that the title reminds them of a train lol XD (Yaminokame 01:35, 4 February 2010 (UTC))

- Makes sense better than "tracks". --☆Coolピカチュウ! 00:08, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- Now, if there is a train in the game, they might of wanted tracks, but I fully support Locus. MaverickNate 18:31, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
LATE TO THE PARTYEither definition fits pretty well, and Locus has the added advantage of sounding more interesting. --Darkeiya talk to me! 23:28, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Oppose
- Oppose change to "Locus", however would support change to "Path", as Path has been appearing in the media, including IGN. TheChrisD Rants•Edits 20:39, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose on the grounds that the title seems to be drawing attention to the feature of drawing a pattern to summon a Pokémon. Whether or not this is a "Locus" as a curve or a "Track" as a symbol hasn't been (to me) sufficiently proven. On a side note, the English Title will likely differ, so I don't see much of an issue with using this literal translation of the title until the game is announced for North America.--Purimpopoie 20:51, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose on the grounds that you seem to have no idea what tracks are. Tracks are a path left behind when something travels. For instance, an animal walking through the woods is found by following its tracks. The process of following tracks is even known universally as "tracking". The title "Tracks of Light" obviously refers to a path of some kind, and ties in to the Ranger theme, since Pokémon Rangers would be well-versed in tracking techniques, in order to find and help sick or injured Pokémon in the wild. As an aside, how "cool" something sounds should not matter in the slightest, as accuracy should always take priority over personal opinion.--Yaezakura 20:51, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- I think we should discuss a better alternative to the word 'tracks' because I do believe that it is a little misleading for some. Sorry I'm late to this discussion >_< (Yaminokame 03:57, 4 February 2010 (UTC))
- Although "locus" is way cooler, I think that "tracks" is more appropriate. To be clear, "光の軌跡" means "the path that is left by a light source", like the "light drawing" thing. So, although "tracks" may sound stupid or whatever, that is what the title meant.--tobytse 16:24, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- Stupid exams.. Anyway, I oppose. All of the above, plus the fact that all the other websites are using Tracks of Light which seems to make more sense than using the word Locus - which I've quite frankly never heard of. --Emp, out 22:51, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose emphatically. This is madness. No other site calls it "Locus of light", which sounds stupid in and of itself. Tracks of Light is the name used by Serebii.net. In spite of this, since I know none of you think Serebii is a reliable enough source for this stuff, the name is most likely Tracks of Light. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talk • contribs) 14:40, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
- Comment It's not that Serebii isn't reliable, it's just this is not Serebii.net and Serebii is not some kind of all mighty source of information. We use our own translations. -Sketch 14:43, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
- keep it as it is until confermed by nintendo. SpecialK Leiks Lucario and the Celebi Glitch 14:51, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Comments/suggestions?
Why are we worrying now? When it actually gets released in Japanese, wouldn't it be easier to figure it out? R.A. Hunter Blade 23:21, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure that is is appropriate. When I think of "locus", I think of the bug. "Path" sounds better. --ケンジのガール 05:44, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
When I saw 'path' mentioned, I thought that would be good too. Really 'path' or 'trail' sound a whole lot better than 'track' at this point lol... at least it will stop the association with trains >_< I support either of those two tbh (Yaminokame 05:48, 5 February 2010 (UTC))
Whether the name is correct or wrong, the real name will be revealed once the English version is out. So I suggest the name will be leave with "Locus of Light" first. --Ruixiang95 14:50, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Europe Release Date
I found the Europe release date for Gaurdian signs it's November 5, 2010. (Pokemaster99 5:43, 2 September 2010 )
Portuguese version?
The Portuguese version of the official game site uses newly invented Portuguese names for the characters but all screenshots are in English and the game title is English as well. Does this mean that the games will be the first Pokémon games to be released in Portuguese, or are those names just invented for the website? --Maxim 11:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Pokémon 2000
This game has some simialrities to Pokémon 2000 I think. The waking of the legendary birds causing some havoc and the requirement of a Generation II Tower duo member (Ho-Oh in this case) to quell the birds. They even have their own islands. Faldera Volcano houses Moltres like Fire Island houses Moltres. Mt. Sorbet houses Articuno like Ice Island houses Articuno and Mt. Layuda houses Zapdos much like Lightning Island houses Zapdos. I kinda think that's noteworthy trivia.--Darknesslover5000 00:22, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
How will this be updated?
I don't understand how this is not meeting the standards, it seems good enough as Shadows of Almia, but that has no template. So, how could this be updated? Chocos0 15:17, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well, it lacks a reception section, for one. Apart from that, I'm not sure what it needs—although I think both this page and Shadows of Almia could do with plot summaries. --AndyPKMN 16:15, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, a plot session would be good, even if it is a side-game. And the reception, well I'm not sure about that. All I know is that I can't make that section. Chocos0 03:46, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Wait, the ENTIRE plot or only the beginning?! (If it's the entire plot, I'm more than willing to write the whole thing down) ----Sparen (talk) 13:12, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- It should have the entire plot, with spoiler tags placed accordingly. --AndyPKMN 17:42, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Mini Series
On Pokémon.com there is a like 7 minute mini series on there called Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. I noticed there isn't a page about it on Bulbapedia. I think it should be added. Pokemaster97 18:26, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Japanese Translation
I'm aware that this argument occurred a while ago to the translation to the Japanese name of the game, however, I put it to you that BOTH Tracks and Locus of Light are INCORRECT! I have the official guide book and it says in its credits that it contains material from the Japanese guide book to Pokémon Ranger: Traces of Light, so the Official Japanese to English Translation is Traces of Light, should this be changed in the article? Jimmyduckegg 20:41, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
- If it does, then it should be changed. Can you provide a scan of it? --SnorlaxMonster 13:50, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Here you go! A scan from my guidebook... By the way, you owe this guidebook a new spine. The guidebook isn't happy. [3] --Jimmyduckegg 21:36, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Australian Distribution
Were the events available in Australia during the period of US and EU distribution to the 11 Jan? because I was just able to find my Nintendo wifi USB connector today and I logged on to it and only the arceus and giratina missions and I was looking for evidence if Australia got it and I missed it, or we just missed out on it? it was my only way to get a lgeit Deoxys, sigh.
