Anticipation (Japanese: きけんよち Danger Premonition) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV. Six Pokémon can have this Ability.
Effect
In battle
Generation IV
Anticipation causes the Pokémon to "shudder" upon entering battle against opponents with super-effective attacks, one-hit knockout moves, or the moves Selfdestruct or Explosion.
It will not notify the Pokémon in the case of a super-effective Hidden Power, Judgment, Weather Ball, or Natural Gift, as they are normally Normal-type. Counter, Metal Burst, and Mirror Coat are also not detected.
Generation V
The moves Selfdestruct and Explosion no longer trigger Anticipation.
Outside of battle
Anticipation has no effect outside of battle.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, a Pokémon detects super-effective moves by hitting the opponent with a regular attack.
