Attila (Japanese: ブソン Buson) is a member of Team Rocket. He appeared along with his partner, Hun, in The Legend of Thunder!.

History

Attila briefly mentioned that he enjoyed ranching on his uncle's property.

He was a Pokémon poacher prior to joining Team Rocket and becoming Hun's new partner. In the original Japanese version of The Legend of Thunder!, Hun stated that he and Attila are from the "Profit Expansion Division."

The Legend of Thunder!

Hun and Attila

Hun introduced Attila to Professor Sebastian, who showed them the Miracle Crystal weapon. The crystal's ability to manipulate electricity proved useful in the pair's quest to lure Raikou out of hiding. However, Jimmy and Marina defeated the Rocket duo and brought Raikou to a local Pokémon Center to recover from its injuries.

The following day Raikou was again attracted to the Miracle Crystal. The Legendary attempted to attack the crystal, but this only charged the device which allowed Attila to activate the capture bubble. As the wall of purple energy engulfed Raikou, Jimmy and the others combined their power to eventually destroy the bubble. However, Raikou was still captured, and Marina was as well. Hun and Attila quickly fled with their catch in their aircraft, but Raikou managed to escape the cargo hold. Vincent later contacted Marina, but their Pokégear conversation was abruptly ended when Attila crushed Marina's Pokégear in his hand.

Hun and Attila land again, and their Miracle Crystal led Raikou, Jimmy and the others directly to their location. Raikou was quick to destroy Attila's mecha, but the Miracle Crystal unexpectedly reverted to its "auto-destruct" mode and sunk its electric hooks into Raikou. Attila called on his Muk and Skarmory to defeat Jimmy and the others, but they were kept at bay by a powerful Psybeam combo from Little Miss and Eugene's Alakazam. The group's efforts helped Raikou finally break the crystal system. As the crystal cracked, Hun and Attila realized that the ultimate system has met the ultimate Pokémon. They then run away, leaving becoming legends for another day.

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire

Attila was featured in the opening sequence of Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. He and Hun used a series of missiles to capture a Rayquaza, and they presented it to Professor Sebastian for further study.

Character

Attila and his partner Hun both seem set in their rank as they approach missions casually. They are determined to complete the tasks no matter how long it takes. They seem to keep their cool even when they lose; in these situations, they calmly retreat. Hun is the dominant partner, while Attila prefers to control the weaponry. Attila gets a thrill from the hunt. He is prone to toying with his targets, though Hun’s calm composure keeps him in line. The pair never quarrel, unlike other Team Rocket groups. In fact, whenever Attila occasionally expressed worry about something going wrong, Hun quickly assured him that it doesn't matter and that he has a solution.

Attila is much less formal than his partner, almost always speaking informally to Hun and everyone else. Although not exceedingly arrogant, he boasts about his toughness and can erupt into anger. Attila taunted Jimmy and the others with names like "Hero Boy" or "Twerp" in all of their interactions.

Trivia

  • The origin of his Japanese name is Yosa Buson, considered one of the greatest haiku poets in history. As both he and Matsuo Basho flourished during the Edo period, some have suspected that both were also ninja employed by the administration. This may be a reason why these names were chosen for Hun (whose Japanese name is Basho) and Attila.
    • Additionally, Buson idolized Basho, and carefully followed in his footsteps in an attempt to perfect his own haiku. Seeing as Attila so unhesitatingly follows Hun's orders, this may be the reason for the selection of Buson's name over other influential poets of the time.
  • Like the other Rocket duos, his and his partner's names together form the name of a well-known historical person: in this case, Attila the Hun.
  • According to concept art, Attila's design is meant to evoke a raccoon-dog while Hun's design is meant to evoke a fox.
