In FireRed and LeafGreen
In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, an elderly woman on Cape Brink will teach Charizard Blast Burn. Like Hydro Cannon and Frenzy Plant, the Pokémon must have a very high happiness rating.
|
In Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver
- An elderly man, much like the woman on Cape Brink, appears on Route 228 in the Battle Zone, and will teach it to the three fully evolved Template:Type2 starters of the previous generations, as well as Infernape. He will also require that the Pokémon that is to learn the move has a high happiness rating.
- In HeartGold and SoulSilver, an elderly man can be found in Blackthorn City, in the same house as the Move tutor and the Move relearner. When talked to, he too will teach Blast Burn to all four of the fully evolved Template:Type2 starters.
|
In Black and White
- In Black and White, the Move Tutor that can teach Blast Burn appears in a house on Route 13, and will teach it to the four fully evolved Template:Type2 starters of the previous generations, as well as Emboar. Like in previous generations, this move tutor will require that the Pokémon he teaches the move to has a high happiness rating.

Trivia
- Smeargle is the only Pokémon that is not a Template:Type2 starter Pokémon able to learn Blast Burn, due to Sketch.
- Mew, though repeatedly said on the Pokédex to be able to learn any move, is not able to learn Blast Burn because the tutors only want to teach it to Fire-type starter Pokémon.
- Blast Burn is the only variant of Hyper Beam not to be used in the anime.
- In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, the Pokémon's IQ must be over 3-3.5 to learn Blast Burn at Level 72.
- Despite being called Blast Burn in numerous languages, it cannot inflict the Burn status ailment at all.
- Despite being called the strongest Fire-type move, V-create has a base power of 180, 30 more than Blast Burn.
- Though, Blast Burn was the strongest Fire-type move before Generation V.
