Magby (Japanese: ブビィ Buby) is a Fire-type Pokémon. It evolves into Magmar.

Biology

Physiology

Magby is a small, red duck/salamander like creature with a human stance. Magby only has a short stub of a tail that doesn't have a flame on it. Magby has a teardrop-shaped spot on its stomach, a single spike on its back and stubby arms. Magby's head is also lumpier than it's evolved form.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Magby can mostly learn anything that Magmar can know, but Magby isn't as strong.

Behavior

Habitat

Magby normally live in volcanic craters. However, there have been rare occasions of Magby being seen living in towns.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime

Magby has mainly been seen as a member of the Pichu Bros. Possé.

A Trainer was trying to get his Magby to evolve in EP262.

Tommy, a student of the Pokémon Trainer's School in Rustboro City, was training with a Magby in AG015.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Gold / Pokémon LeafGreen
Each and every time it inhales and exhales, hot embers dribble out of its mouth and nostrils.
Pokémon Silver
It is found in volcanic craters. Its body temp is over 1100 degrees, so don't under-estimate it.
Pokémon Crystal
It naturally spits an 1100-degree flame. It is said when many appear, it heralds a volcanic eruption.
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
Magby's state of health is determined by observing the fire it breathes. If the Pokémon is spouting yellow flames from its mouth, it is in good health. When it is fatigued, black smoke will be mixed in with the flames.
Pokémon Emerald
If a Magby is spouting yellow flames from its mouth, it is in good health. When it is fatigued, black smoke will be mixed in with the flames.
Pokémon FireRed

Trivia

Origin

Name origin

Magby's name is a combination of magma, intrusive molten rock, and baby. Its Japanese name might be a corruption of booby, a type of sea bird.
