Error cards: Difference between revisions

Error cards, also known as misprints, are cards in the TCG that have certain elements on the card that are incorrect. Often times error cards are quickly corrected resulting in the error variant being highly desirable by collectors. Error cards left uncorrected are not highly desirable as every copy of the card was printed with the same error. Errors cards that are listed on the Official TCG Errata will be denoted by (Errata)

Original Series

Base Set

Vulpix listed with "HP 50" instead of "50 HP".

Corrected Errors:

• Blastoise: The word "stage" is missing on the top right corner on unlimited prints. Often referred to as "Stage Error Blastoise".
• Blastoise: The word "Illus." is missing on the bottom left corner before Ken Sugimori's name found on unlimited prints. Often referred to as the "Illustrator Error Blastoise".
• Blastoise: A red ink dot above Hydro Pump's water energy symbol appears on unlimited prints.
• Chansey: A black ink dot can be seen above the "x" of "next" in Chansey's Scrunch attack on unlimited prints.
• Charizard: A black ink dot can be found on the word "Nintendo" at the bottom of unlimited prints. Notably many of these black ink dot errors also suffer from a slight holofoil shift.
• Clefairy: A reddish-pink ink blotch coincidentally resembling a heart inside of a circle can be seen above the artwork on unlimited prints. Often referred to as "Heart in Circle Clefairy".
• Clefairy: A black ink dot can be seen covering the "N" and the "O" of "now" in Clefairy's Sing attack on unlimited prints.
• Gyarados: A reddish black dot can be found on the bottom yellow border, directly under the "96," on unlimited prints.
• Machamp: The shadowless versions of this card have the fighting symbols in all four of the fighting energy symbols noticeably shifted to the right.
• Machamp: A few Machamps were printed with a blueish-green ink dot over the word "HP". (Does not apply to Shadowless prints.)
• Machamp: A few Machamps were printed with a dark goldenish border. Border discoloration errors can happen to any card from any set but this particular cards border error was relatively common as quite a few examples of it exist. This error only effected non-shadowless Machamps.
• Ninetales: The "80" damage text for Fire Blast is missing on a few shadowless prints. This error has only been found in some shadowless Brushfire theme decks. It's often referred to as "Missing Damage Ninetales" or "No Damage Ninetales".
• Ninetales: An ink bubble obstructing part of Ninentales' name appears on unlimited prints.
• Beedrill: A few unlimited Beedrill cards were printed with a period in the middle of the word "Defending" in Poison Sting's attack. Ex) "D.efending"
• Dragonair: A rainbow-like smudge can be seen covering the letter "U" in the word "number" on both 1st edition and shadowless prints. The shadowless version is rarer.
• Wartortle: A picture of Wartortle can be found in the evolution box instead of Squirtle on unlimited prints. Often referred to as "Evolution Box Wartortle". Notably all 1st edition and unlimited Portuguese prints suffer from this error and never saw a correction, whereas English unlimited saw a correction very quickly.
• Diglett: The attack energy cost symbol is rotated 90 degrees on unlimited prints. Often referred to as "Fight Symbol Error Diglett".
• Machop: A few unlimited Machop cards were printed with three greenish-yellow dots on Machop's belly.
• Pikachu: A few 1st edition copies have an incomplete 1st edition stamp that is only has a partially printed "1st" while the letter "d" in "edition" is completely missing. Often times referred to as "Ghost Pikachu" or "Phantom Stamp Pikachu". This error has only found in shadowless Zap! Theme decks. This only happened to Yellow Cheek Pikachu.
• Pikachu: A few 1st edition copies have a blue dot under the 1st edition stamp and a hair like line printed in the top left border.
• Rattata: A few shadowless Rattata cards were printed with two very feint red ink dots on the right side of the card.
• Squirtle: A few unlimited Squirtles were printed with partially missing text in Squirtle's name.
• Tangela: A rather large pink-green ink blotch can be found on the top right of the card next to the artwork on unlimited prints.
• Vulpix: A blue ink dot can be seen on Vulpix's back left leg on both 1st edition and shadowless prints. The 1st edition version is rarer.
• Vulpix: The 1st Edition, Shadowless, and unlimited prints have their HP printed as "HP 50" instead of "50 HP". This was only corrected in the UK released 1999-2000 4th print run making the corrected version more desirable.
• Water Energy: A number of these cards have no space between the margin and the word "Energy".
• Grey Stamps: All 102 cards from the 1st edition print run can suffer from a grey or faded 1st edition stamp. Holofoil grey stamps are much harder to find compared to the common/uncommon cards. Note: As every Machamp was printed with a 1st edition stamp it is the most common holo to suffer from this error. A red cheek Pikachu with a grey stamp has yet to be found and may not exist at all.
• Black Back Stamps: Some 1st editions cards have black ink on the back of the card. Is it believed that because the cards touch each other inside the booster packs heavy ink can smear off the stamps and onto the back of the card in front of it. It is unknown if holofoils suffer from this error.
• White Back Stamps: Some 1st editions cards have white marks on the back of the card. It is believed the 1st edition stamps were stamped too hard and left an imprint on the back of the card.

Uncorrected Errors:

• Gyarados: All Base Set Gyarados were printed with the "6/102" too far to the left.
• Kakuna: In the 1st Edition and shadowless versions of this card the bio incorrectly reads "Cocoon Pokémon. Length: 2' 0", Length: 22 lbs" instead of "Weight: 22 lbs".
• Bulbasaur: In the 1st Edition and shadowless versions of this card the bio incorrectly reads "Seed Pokémon. Length: 2' 4", Length: 15 lbs" instead of "Weight: 15 lbs".
• Caterpie: The 1st Edition and Shadowless versions of this card have their HP listed as "HP 40" instead of "40 HP".
• Metapod: The 1st Edition and shadowless versions of Metapod cards have their HP listed as "HP 70" instead of "70 HP".
• Nidoran♂: Nidoran♂ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♂".
• Sandshrew: The 1st Edition and Shadowless versions of this card have Sandshrew's Sand-attack read "If the defending Pokémon tries to attack during your opponent's next turn, your opponent flips a coin. If tails this attack does nothing" while it's supposed to say "that attack does nothing".
• Voltorb: In the 1st Edition and Shadowless versions of this card the Bio at the bottom of the card reads "Usually found in power plants. Easily mistaken for a Monster Ball, it has zapped many people." The unlimited version was corrected and monster ball is replaced with "Poké Ball." The error refers to Poké Balls as their Japanese counterparts Monster Balls.
• Imposter Professor Oak: The 1st Edition and Shadowless versions of this card read "Impostor Oak" instead of "Imposter Oak".
• Switch: The 1st Edition and Shadowless versions of this card read "Switch 1 of your own Benched Pokémon with your Active Pokémon." where the word "own" is completely unnecessary and was corrected in the unlimited versions of this card.
• Japanese Base Set Holofoil cards: All holofoil cards with an evolution box have the holographic overlapping the bottom on the evolution box.

Incorrectly regarded as errors:

• Pikachu: Red Cheeks Pikachu, both 1st edition, Shadowless, and the E3 promo prints are often regarded as errors, but this is not the case. The illustrator of the card, Mitsuhiro Arita, originally submitted the artwork of the Base Set Pikachu as having yellow cheeks. Wizards of the Coast employees thought the cheeks were supposed to be red so they changed the artwork to red without Mitsuhiro Arita's permission. Eventually they switched it back to having yellow cheeks as Mitsuhiro had originally intended. Pikachu's cheeks turn yellow during an attack which explains why Mitsuhiro Arita wanted them yellow. Because this was an intentional design change it should not be considered an error.
• Machamp: Base Set uses the holofoil star pattern for its holo cards. However, some Machamps were printed with the Cosmos foil pattern instead. These Machamps were found inside the 2-Player CD-ROM Starter Set deck. This deck contained Base Set 2 cards and a reprint of the original Machamp from Base Set donning Base Set 2's cosmos foil pattern.

Jungle

Corrected Errors:

• Butterfree: Due to an ink bubble error a number of 1st Edition Butterfree cards were printed with an ink bubble inside the 1st edition stamp. Often referred to as "d" Edition Butterfree.
• Venonat: A number of 1st edition Venonat cards have a dark line running along the top half of the left side of the card where the yellow border meets the green background.
• Pinsir: A number of 1st edition Pinsir cards have holo-like scratch that can be seen going above and through the 1st edition stamp.
• Eevee: Due to an ink bubble error, a number of Eevee cards were printed with a ink bubble inside the 1st edition stamp. Sometimes referred to as "d" Edition Eevee as this error closely resembles the "d" Edition Butterfree error card.
• Clefable: A number of unlimited non-holo Clefable cards were printed with a red ink mark on Clefable's body.
• Snorlax: A number of unlimited Snorlax cards were printed with a large yellow smear that resembles highlighter ink across the body of the card.
• Kangaskhan: A number of unlimited Kangaskhan cards were printed with a small greenish yellow smear that resembles highlighter ink on Kangaskhan's face.
• Exeggcute: A number of unlimited Exeggcute cards were printed with a green ink dot at the top of the card.
• No Symbol Errors: In an early print run of the Unlimited Jungle set all 16 holofoil cards were printed without the Jungle Set Symbol.

Uncorrected Errors:

• 1st Edition Electrode: Every 1st edition Jungle Electrode has the image of Base Set Electrode.
• Rapidash and Seaking: Seaking and Rapidash are Stage 1 Pokémon but the text tells the person playing the cards to "put XXX on the Stage 1 card". This error applies to both 1st and Normal Edition sets.
• Nidoran♀: Nidoran♀ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♀".
• Japanese Jungle Holofoil cards: All holofoil cards with an evolution box have the holographic overlapping the bottom on the evolution box.

Fossil

Corrected Errors:

• 1st Edition and Unlimited Holofoil Zapdos : A number of Fossil Holofoil Zapdos cards have a space for the evolution box punched out of the Holofoil, even though Zapdos is a Basic Pokémon. All 1st edition cards have this error as they were never corrected, while less than half of the unlimited prints were corrected. The corrected unlimited are somewhat rarer than the error version.
• 1st Edition Non-holo Zapdos : Some 1st edition non-holo cards have a small red dot directly above the Pokéball on the back of the card.
• Haunter: A number of unlimited holo Haunter cards were printed with a purple-blue ink stain with varying severity in the lower right hand corner of the artwork.
• Hitmonlee: Some Hitmonlee 1st edition holo cards were printed with an orange stain with varying severity on the left side of the card.
• Haunter: A number of Haunter 1st edition holo cards were printed with an orange stain with varying severity on the left side of the card, much like the previously mentioned Hitmonlee, though much rarer.
• Seadra (Italian): Some unlimited print cards had the water energy symbol within the move description shifted to the right, covering the word "assegnata".
• Omastar (Italian): Some unlimited print cards had the water energy symbol within the move description shifted to the right, covering the word "assegnata". Omastar is much rarer than its Seadra counterpart.
• Krabby: Some unlimited Krabby cards have an incomplete Fossil set symbol. Often referred to as "Fossil Slash Krabby"
• Krabby: Some unlimited Krabby cards have an ink bubble covering or obscuring the word "length" with varying severity.
• Slowpoke: A number of unlimited cards have a rather large blue ink blotch over the psychic symbol on the top right of the card.

Uncorrected Errors:

• Slowpoke: The card erroneously reads Miki Tanaka's name as "Miki Takano", even though the rest of the cards that she has illustrated credits her as "Miki Tanaka."
• Japanese Fossil Holofoil cards: All holofoil cards with an evolution box have the holographic overlapping the bottom on the evolution box.

Possible Errors:

• Cosmos Holofoil Cards: Some unlimited holos were printed with the incorrect foil pattern. 99.99% of fossil holos are printed with the star foil pattern, but for some unexplained reason some holos were printed with the cosmos foil pattern instead. It is unclear if this was done in error, as test prints, or if Wizards of the Coast intentionally switched to a different holofoil. These are highly sought after by collectors.

Base Set 2

Corrected Errors:

• Poliwrath: A few Poliwraths were printed with a blue ink dot on the top right of the swirl on Poliwrath's body.

Uncorrected Errors:

• Seaking: Card reads "Put Seaking on the Stage 1 card" when it should say "Put Seaking on the Basic Pokémon"
• Vulpix: This print as well as the Base set 1st edition, shadowless and 1999 unlimited versions of this card have their HP listed as "HP 50" instead of "50 HP". This was finally corrected in the 4th base set print released exclusively in the UK where the card's HP reads "50 HP".
• Nidoran♀: Nidoran♀ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♀".
• Nidoran♂: Nidoran♂ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♂".
• Wartortle: W stamped promo versions of the Base Set 2 Wartortle have a smaller Water Energy symbol next to their HP.

Team Rocket

Dark Golbat reads as "Pokémon.Apply"

Corrected Errors:

• Holofoil Dark Dragonite: A number of Dark Dragonites from both the 1st Edition and Unlimited print runs were printed without the holo.
• Holofoil Dark Arbok : A number of holofoil Dark Arbok cards were printed with the holofoil shifted slightly to the left.
• Dark Charizard : Some Unlimited Dark Charizards suffer dramatically from heavy black ink. This error is so severe it resembles water damage. Dark Charizard's name can be obstructed, as well as the artwork and text box.
• Charmander : Some unlimited prints suffer from a small black ink dot above the "d" in Charmander's name.

• Smudged 1st Edition Stamps: The quality control for the 1st edition printing of Team Rocket was very poor resulting in many cards having smudged or "heavy" 1st edition stamps. The most common cards affected by this are the Trainer cards and Dark Gyarados, though it appears any non-holo card from this set can suffer from a smudged 1st edition stamp. Stamps can appear smudged, heavy, smeared, wiped, incomplete, or any combination of those.
• Faded Holofoil Cards: The quality control for the unlimited printing of Team Rocket was also very poor resulting in many unlimited holofoil cards being printed with a light ink layer resulting in the cards looking washed-out or faded. This also results in a sort of holo-bleed affect to the right of the cards artwork. It is assumed any one of the unlimited holofoil card can be affected by this error.

Uncorrected Errors:

• Holofoil Dark Arbok and Rare Dark Arbok (1st & Normal Edition): Dark Arbok was printed with the number three accidentally inserted into 2000, so it was written as "©1999-23000 Wizards".
• Holofoil Dark Dragonite (1st & Normal Edition): The attack cost symbols for Holofoil Dark Dragonite are not centered.
• Dark Golbat (holo and non-holo): The English Pokémon Power mentions "Apply Weakness and Resistance", while in the Master Rules Document, the Japanese Dark Golbat's Pokémon Power says "Don't apply Weakness and Resistance." There is also a lack of space between the words "Pokémon" and "Apply". (Reads "Pokémon.Apply")
• Non-Holofoil Dark Vileplume (1st & Normal Edition): Non-holofoil Dark Vileplume have a weakness to Fighting instead of Fire.
• Dark Rapidash: Dark Rapidash's stats lack the word "Length".
• Grimer: English Team Rocket's Grimer's Poison Gas attack puts Pokémon to sleep, although the Japanese version Poisons them.
• Dark Raichu (1st and Normal Edition): Dark Raichu's Evolution Box is colored light gray instead of dark gray. Additionally, the card reads "Put Raichu on the Basic Pokémon" instead of "Put Dark Raichu on the Basic Pokémon". This wording error was fixed for the Legendary Collection reprint.

Gym Heroes

Uncorrected Errors:

• Rocket's Scyther: In all prints of this card the attack Shadow Images it reads "Whenever Rocket's Scyther is attacked, your opponent flips a coin. If tails that attack does no damage to Rocket's Scyther. (Any other effects of the attack still happen.) This effect lasts Rocket's Scyther takes damage (or is Benched or is evolved)." The error with this card is the text "or is evolved" is completely unnecessary. This card was released way before gen 2 and there is no Rocket's Scizor in this set. There was a Rocket's Scizor released later as a promo but that is a basic card therefore that rule is never applied or used.

Cards of interest:

• Blaine's Charmander: The Charmander in this artwork has a little spike on its back from its very first design. Though not an error, this specific design of Charmander is not seen anywhere else in the TCG except for the Gym Challenge expansion.

Gym Challenge

Corrected Errors:

• Blaine's Charizard (1st and Normal Edition): 1st edition and Unlimited prints of these cards have a Fighting-type symbol instead of the Fire-type symbol. 1st edition prints never received a correction whereas unlimited did receive a correction very late in the print run. This makes the corrected unlimited Blaine's Charizard rare and more desirable among collectors, rather than the error version.
• Rocket's Minefield Gym (1st and Normal Edition): 1st edition and unlimited prints of this card do not mention how many damage counters are needed to put on a Pokémon. 1st edition prints never received a correction whereas unlimited did receive a correction very late in the print run. This makes the corrected unlimited Rocket's Minefield Gym rarer and more desirable among collectors, rather than the error version.

Uncorrected Errors:

• Misty's Seel (1st and Normal Edition): All prints of this card have a transparency error; there should not be a white space around Seel's tail.
• Giovanni's Pinsir (1st and Normal Edition): Pinsir's "Snapping Pincers" attack is supposed to do 20+ damage and not 10+ damage.
• Giovanni's Nidoran♀ : Nidoran♀ was misspelled as "Nidoran ♀".
• Giovanni's Nidoran♂ : Nidoran♂ was misspelled as "Nidoran ♂".

Cards of interest:

• Blaine's Charmander: The Charmander in this artwork has a little spike on its back from its very first design. Though not an error, this specific design of Charmander is not seen anywhere else in the TCG except for the Gym Heroes expansion.

Neo Series

Neo Genesis

Focus Band has a white bar below its picture, due to a presumed misalignment.

• Meganium (1st and Normal Edition): The Pokémon Power title text is black instead of red.
• Typhlosion (1st Edition): A red dot can be found left of the Neo Genesis set symbol on some prints of this card.
• Typhlosion (Japanese): Most Japanese copies of this card have a damage number of 60 instead of 60+ for the Flame Burst attack. (The corrected 60+ version is less common to find.)
• Slowking and Typhlosion (1st and Normal Edition): These cards' damages are off the center.
• Horsea (1st and Normal Edition): One of the attack cost energy symbols for its attack is oddly off.
• Natu: Energy symbols for attack are moved to left margin
• Pikachu: Pikachu’s Quick Attack should only deal 10 damage on heads, not 20 damage.
• Focus Band (1st and Normal Edition): The picture on the Focus Band has a white bar beneath it, apparently due to being improperly positioned during the card's design process.

Neo Discovery

• Poliwrath (Normal Edition): Some prints of this card have a smudge-like holo bleed on the bottom left of the border of the holo.
• Holofoil Scizor and Rare Scizor (1st and Normal Edition): The attack's damage done is "20+" while it's supposed to be "20×".
• Umbreon (1st and Normal Edition): The Psychic symbol in Umbreon's resistance is bigger than normal.
• Kakuna (1st and Normal Edition): The copyright text of all other Neo Discovery cards is "©1995-2001", but for an unknown reason, this card's copyright is "©1995-2000".
• Unown O (1st and Normal Edition): The first sentence of its Pokémon Power reads "Once during you turn" instead of "Once during your turn".

Neo Revelation

• Delibird (1st and Normal Edition): The energy cost for Delibird's attack is off the center.
• Raichu (1st and Normal Edition): For an unexplained reason the "Put Raichu on the Basic Pokémon" text on the card is unnecessarily bold and italic.
• Zubat (1st and Normal Edition): Zubat's resistance lacks the "-30".

Neo Destiny

• Dark Croconaw: The card's Pokédex entry states that Croconaw has 49 teeth, but it only has 48.
• Dark Exeggutor: There is an unnecessary letter C in Exeggutor's name.
• Dark Haunter: Dark Haunter's "Call Back" attack's clause leaves out the word "opponent's".
• Light Flareon: The "b" in "benched" is not capitalized.
• Togepi: The "before applying Weakness and Resistance" text should be in italics.
• Unown C: Unown C's "Chase" Pokémon Power adds an unnecessary "Apply Weakness and Resistance" even though the attack does not inflict damage.
• Unown P: There is an extra space in the Basic Pokémon title on Unown P.
• Gligar: The energy symbols on Gligar are not in the correct position. Also, in the description beneath the picture the Pokémon Type is missing the "n" from Flyscorpion. This applies to both 1st and Normal Editions.
• Shining Tyranitar: The word "just" is spelled wrong. It is written as "hust".

Legendary Collection Series

Legendary Collection

• Reverse Holofoil Exeggcute: Normally on Reverse Holofoils the Energy costs for attacks aren't reflective. On Exeggcute they are. Wizards of the Coast attempted to correct this error which resulted in a holofoil shift. The attempted correction made things worse. The shifted foil variant is much rarer.
• Holofoil Dark Raichu: Electricity on the tail is holofoil, which is inconsistent with the original Team Rocket illustration. This misprint causes the tail of Dark Raichu to look disembodied.
• Nidoran♀: Nidoran♀ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♀".
• Nidoran♂: Nidoran♂ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♂".

e-Card series

Expedition Base Set

• Alakazam: The "This power can't be used if..." text is italicized while it is not supposed to be.
• Dugtrio: Its Attack Energy Costs Symbols are larger than the standard size.
• Gengar: Gengar's Chaos Move Pokémon Power game text has a few spots where the text could go up a line.
• Charizard: This card tells the player to "Put Charizard on the Basic Pokémon".
• Totodile: When Cyndaquil's card is scanned with the e-Reader a "Cynda!" sound is added to the Melody Box. Totodile being scanned, however, adds "Wani!" rather than "Toto!". As Chikorita and Pikachu (two other cards which received this effect) have the same English and Japanese names, it is unknown if Totodile's was the error, or if Cyndaquil's is.
• Energy Removal 2 and Multi Technical Machine 01: When these cards are scanned with the e-Reader, the TM01 card names the card's move as "Paralyzing Stare" (on the card, it is "Paralyzing Gaze"), and the reader refers to "Energy Removal 2" as the ordinary "Energy Removal".
• Darkness Energy: The card text implies that it can add to damage done to benched Pokémon, which normally cannot be increased.

Aquapolis

• Crystal Nidoking: The Crystal Type Pokémon mentions Grass/Lightning/Fire energy, but the Crystal Nidoking's attacks only use Grass/Lightning/Fighting energy.
• Reverse Holofoil Lanturn: There's a Poké-Body icon on it for no specific reason at all.
• Magnemite: The text on this card is quite faded as opposed to other Metal Pokémon in the set.
• Ariados: In its Spider Force attack, it should say "Defending Pokémon", not "defending Pokémon". This error is not present in the non-holofoil version.
• Nidoran♂: Nidoran♂ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♂".
• Rare Holofoil Cards: For some reason, the bottommost cut out on the left side of the card is not holofoil.

Skyridge

• Nidoqueen: The period is misplaced at the left of the end of Nidoqueen's last attack. This applies to the Holofoil, Rare and Reverse Holofoil versions of the card.
• Persian: Under the "Surprise Slash" attack, it reads "You opponent". It should read "Your opponent".
• Nidoran♀: Nidoran♀ is misspelled as "Nidoran ♀".
• Hyper Potion: Major Text Change with the release of Sword & Shield (Errata)

EX Series

EX Ruby & Sapphire

• Slakoth: For some reason, the last "f" in the attack "Slack Off" isn't bolded.

EX Sandstorm

• Vigoroth: there is a grammatical error under its "Focus Energy" attack where it says "Vigoroth's Slash is attack".
• Marill: This card is supposed to have a Retreat Cost of 1 but a third to a half of these cards were printed with a Retreat Cost of 0. Alternate Holofoil versions of this card don't have this error.

EX Dragon

• Combusken: The card was printed as Stage 2 while it is supposed to be Stage 1. Only cards that were printed from EX Battle Stadium set have this error.
• Latias ex: In its holofoil, there's a circular space as if the evolution box was used to cover it up.
• Latios ex: In its holofoil, there's a circular space as if the evolution box was used to cover it up.
• Magnemite: The reverse holofoil version of this card has a white circle where the Resistance would be.

EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua

Some EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua cards have the Retreat Cost energy misaligned to the right.

• Team Aqua's Crawdaunt: The Retreat Cost energy is supposed to be centered under "Retreat Cost". It is misaligned to the right.
• Team Magma's Claydol: The Retreat Cost energy is supposed to be centered under "Retreat Cost". It is misaligned to the right.
• Team Magma's Torkoal: The Retreat Cost energy is supposed to be centered under "Retreat Cost". It is misaligned to the right.
• Team Magma's Camerupt: In the Poké-Power explanation the second Magma's was misspelled as "Mamga's".
• Team Magma's Baltoy: Under the "Psymist" attack, it reads "choose 1 of you opponent's". It should read "choose 1 of your opponent's".

• Although minor color differences are always possible (i.e. Pikachu with darker or lighter shade of purple as artwork background), there were some cards in this set with a bit more major color errors:
  • The (non-Holo) Pikachu has two major color errors which occurred on multiple copies: one where the artwork background is blue, and one where the background is maroon.
  • Devolution Spray, Switch, and Charizard sometimes have greenish parts where it should have been yellow (the Devolution Spray with this error seems to be more common to find than for the other two).

XY Black Star Promos

• Krookodile-EX: The 1 of Megaton Fang's 130 damage is printed in the incorrect font.
• Xerneas: The illustrator is erroneously credited as Masakazu Fukuda instead of the correct Kouki Saitou.
• Kyogre-EX and Groudon-EX: The illustrator for both cards is erroneously credited as 5ban Graphics instead of Eske Yoshinob.

Prerelease Raichu

• Prerelease Raichu: Arguably the rarest card printed by Wizards. Rumored to have been about 6 to 50 made, some of which were retrieved by Wizards themselves. These cards came about during the printing of prerelease Clefable from Jungle, when some Base Set Raichu cards were attached to the side of sheets of Clefable cards. Wizards staff denied their existence for years, but have since confessed to the card's existence.
• Pikachu: Due to a mistake by Wizards, a few Ivy Pikachu promo cards were printed with a 1st edition stamp. This is the rarest unique card in the 1st edition series; it is said to be found in only 1 of 10 Jungle booster boxes.
• Pikachu: The Japanese Glossy version and Portuguese Pikachu World Collection 2000 version both erroneously credit Ken Sugimori as illustrator, instead of Keiji Kinebuchi.
• Electabuzz / Mewtwo / Pikachu / Dragonite: These four promotional cards were accidentally printed with the Pokémon the First Movie logo upside down in the lower left corner. It is thought that only 30 of each card were printed with this error (so a single misprinted sheet of 120 cards).
• Meowth: The HP is nudged too far over to the left, and the attack cost symbols are much smaller than the normal cost.
• Eevee: Promotional Eevee's Pokémon Power text lacks the accent mark (it's e instead of é).
• Dark Persian: A number of Dark Persian were printed without any HP.
• Team Rocket's Meowth: Team Rocket's Meowth category is listed as "Scratchcat" instead of "Scratch Cat".
• Marill: Its "Length" stat is listed as "Height" instead of "Length", its Water Gun attack is missing a Water energy symbol and its 20+ damage done is off the center.
• Scyther: Scyther's game text in the parentheses isn't in italics.
• Mew: Mew's attack: "Psyshock" inflicts confusion instead of paralysis.
• Celebi: The art is credited to "Hajime Kusajim," a misspelling of Hajime Kusajima.
• Slowking: Slowking's length is listed as 6' 8" instead of 6' 7".
• Promotional Hitmonchan: Hitmonchan's HP is written as 60 instead of 70.
• Moltres / Articuno / Zapdos: The first print runs of these cards erroneously credited the illustrator as Toshinao Aoki instead of Naoyo Kimura, which was corrected in later prints.

Nintendo

• Ancient Mew: When it was first being printed in Japan, the copyright text was misspelled "Nintedo" instead of Nintendo.
• Various cards: Some cards will have square edges or a mix of round and square images.
• Various sets: During the printing of sets, there is a rare chance that a card in the set will not get printed correctly. This results in the border being partially visible and the rest of the card being a blank white box. These cards are usually sought after by collectors.

POP Series 5

• Mew δ: Numerous cards were printed with the back printed upside down.
• Pikachu: Numerous cards were printed with the back printed upside down.
• Zangoose δ: Kouki Saitou's name is misspelled as "Kouki Saito".

DP Promos

• Shinx: Some of these cards were printed with the back printed upside down.
• Carnivine G: Copies of this card read 80HP instead of HP80.
• Probopass G: Copies of this card read 90HP instead of HP90.
• 2008 and 2009 Burger King promotional cards: A fair amount of the cards, if not all, were printed with the content closer to the left. This is more easily seen in the 2009 promotion.

SWSH Promos

• Pikachu: Some of the General Mills promo version of these cards have one to several red dots printed on them. The most common appears to be a red dot under "HT" and another red dot on the top right border.
