Template:ElementalTypes Template:TypeNotice Notable trainers that specialize in the Flying-type include Falkner of Violet City and Winona of Fortree City. This type is the only one of the seventeen that is never seen unpaired, with the exception of the use of Conversion-like moves and abilities like Multitype and Color Change. Each other type, besides Fighting, has also been paired with the Flying-type on at least one Pokémon.

Characteristics
Defensively, the Flying type is useful for its immunity to the common Ground-type move Earthquake and its resistance to Fighting. However, the Flying-type's weaknesses aren't rare types and can often offset the benefits of immunity to Ground, especially due to many combination Rock/Ground Pokémon. However, most Flying-types have access to Roost, allowing them to restore their health.
Offensively, Flying-type moves are usually only useful when benefited by same-type attack bonus. The types Flying is super effective against aren't common, and being not very effective against Steel is never good. In their favor though, most fully evolved Flying-types have above-average Attack and Speed stats.
In total, there are 65 Pokémon with the Flying-type.

Trivia
- There are no pure Flying-type Pokémon. No Pokémon has Flying as its primary type, either.
- Before Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were released, Chatot was rumored to be a pure Flying-type, although that was eventually proven false.
- With the Sky Plate held, the legendary Pokémon Arceus is the only Pokémon capable of becoming a pure Flying-type outside of battle.
- Flying is the only type whose immunity can be cancelled by an item, the Iron Ball, instead of only via a move.
- Flying is the only type with an immunity that is dual-typed with every other type with an immunity; Template:Type2 (e.g. Gligar), Template:Type2 (e.g. Murkrow), Template:Type2 (e.g. Pidgey), Template:Type2 (e.g. Skarmory), and Template:Type2 (e.g. Drifloon).
- Currently, all Pokémon with a 4× weakness to Template:Type2 moves are Flying-type.
