Wind move

(Redirected from Wind moves)

A wind move (Japanese: 風技 wind move) is any move that uses wind. Wind moves have some unique properties and effects. The mechanic was introduced in Generation IX.
Wind moves like Gust have existed since Generation I, but in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, wind became a mechanic; moves that use wind become flagged when used against Pokémon with specific Abilities.
In the games
In the core series games, wind moves have the following effects:
- Pokémon with the Wind Rider Ability are immune to damage from other Pokémon's wind moves, receiving an increase in Attack by one stage instead. The increase is also received when Tailwind takes effect, in addition to the speed boost effect from Tailwind. Sandstorm does not interact with Wind Rider.
- When a Pokémon with the Wind Power Ability is hit by a wind move or when Tailwind takes effect, it becomes charged, boosting the power of its next Electric-type move. Sandstorm does not interact with Wind Power.
- The accuracy of Hurricane, Blizzard, Bleakwind Storm, Wildbolt Storm, and Sandsear Storm are affected by the weather.
- During hail (in Generation IV-VIII) and snow (from Generation IX onwards), Blizzard ignores accuracy and evasion checks.
- During rain, Hurricane ignores accuracy and evasion checks; during harsh sunlight, Hurricane only has 50% accuracy.
- In Generation IX, during rain, Bleakwind Storm, Wildbolt Storm, and Sandsear Storm ignore accuracy and evasion checks.
- In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl only, Blizzard also has a 30% chance to hit through Protect or Detect when used in hail.
