Walkthrough:Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky/Chapter 23
Once a day passes since the Sky Peak trek, a Mr. Mime will be waiting outside Spinda's Café. He'll comment on you being very energetic as you continue to explore, but immediately goes off to another subject--the tale of a famous explorer, Scizor. Apparently, Scizor was an explorer whose fame stretched across the world. All explorers admired him.
Unfortunately, Scizor went missing while he was exploring Blizzard Island, far in the southwest. Many exploration teams, especially those who looked up to him, went searching for him. All of them resulted in failure as the bitter cold and swirling blizzards, and everyone gave up.
There have been rumors, too--they say that Scizor was searching for an amazing treasure. He, again, quickly goes on to another subject, saying how Team ___ is a great exploration team, especially when they saved the world of the planet's paralysis. According to Mr. Mime, no exploration teams have ever visited Blizzard Island after the rescues were called off. But he asks you to go. He tells you that Blizzard Island is in the southwest (again). So, of course, what do you think you should do? Well...simple...go and rescue Scizor!
Blizzard Island
As the newly uncovered region and the dungeon's name suggests, this dungeon focuses mostly on Ice-types, with some Water and Normal-types thrown into the mix... and Nosepass.
This snowy place doesn't have Kecleon Shops or Secret Stairs, but you can still money buried within the walls and Monster Houses. There's also some items, that if you didn't unlock specific optional dungeons, are new, like the Curve Band.
Unlike most dungeons, clearing this one does not put you back to Treasure Town, and instead into the entrance of the next dungeon with a Kangaskhan Rock, Crevice Cave.

- Golduck: The evolved form of Psyduck seen all the way back at Waterfall Cave. It is much dangerous than that time, as its much higher level gives it chance to possess dangerous moves: Disable, Fury Swipes or Screech, as well as Water Pulse. It can also learn Aqua Jet unlike Psyduck.
- Azurill/Marill/Azumarill: D IQ group. The entire fmaily is here. Azurill being a baby Pokémon only learns few moves via level-up, though it does get access to Charm and Bubble, which its Evolution can't have (though do remember that it's a Normal-type until it evolves). It also is capable of learning Water Pulse and Blizzard via TMs. Marill and Azumarill have access to Rollout, BubbleBeam, Aqua Ring, and even Rain Dance. They also get access to Focus Punch and Dig TMs (Azumarill can also learn Focus Blast). Their exclusive items increase max PP by 2, cause attackers to be sometimes inflicted with Shadow Hold, and convert Electric-type damage into healing. You might recognize Azurill's 3-star item from before; it's the Water Float that the brothers were looking for during the main story.
- Sneasel: F IQ group. We just met one in Sky Peak, and now it can be recruited. Despite its low level, it can have Screech, to make it easier for other enemies to knock you out. It also has Faint Attack, and at higher levels it will learn Fury Swipes, Agility, Icy Wind, Beat Up and Ice Shard. It can also learn Focus Punch, Blizzard, Dig, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, X-Scissor and Cut via the machines.
- Piloswine: Evolution of the Swinub found in the optional Final Maze. Now learns Peck, Fury Attack, AncientPower (needed for Evolution) and, in place of Ice Shard, Ice Fang.
- Delibird: B IQ group. Delibird is less of a joke, since stats can be fixed. Present in this game deals flat 25, 50 or 75 damage, after accounting for type matchup (and STAB if a Normal-type copies it somehow), though it can also possibly heal the target instead. Thankfully it can learn Focus Punch, Water Pulse and Blizzard via TMs; if you also want Flying STAB, it is compatible with Aerial Ace, Pluck, and Fly. Vital Spirit makes it immune to sleep; helpful as always. Hustle does make physical attacks less accurate, however. Its exclusive items makes it attack twice in Hail, similarly to Chlorophyll or Swift Swim, although it obviously needs hail support.
- Smoochum. G IQ group. It's one of the few species to get access to Sweet Kiss, which is basically a guaranteed confusion on a single target. Despite being a baby, it actually has a bunch of level-up moves, getting Powder Snow, Sing, Lick, and at higher levels Fake Tears, Perish Song and even Blizzard (though Powder Snow is much more accurate on average). It also can learn Shadow Ball via TM. Forewarn is incredibly good, as it causes moves to sometimes miss simply the user. Even things like Aerial Ace. The only other evolutionary line to have access to it is Drowzee, who was the very first boss of this game long time ago.
- Vigoroth: C IQ group. Gets Focus Energy, Encore, Fury Swipes, Endure, Counter and even Focus Punch via level-up (being the only one in the entire game to get Focus Punch via level-up), plus Reversal few levels higher. It also has a good variety in TMs with Water Pulse, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Shock Wave, Flamethrower and Focus Blast, as well as Cut. Vital Spirit makes it immune to sleep, although it is the only one of its family to have it. Its exclusive items may cause attackers to be put to sleep, make its attack ignore Reflect/Light Screen and convert Fighting-type damage into healing.
- Nosepass: E IQ group. It has Block, Thunder Wave, Sandstorm, eventually also learning Discharge and in 70s(!), Lock-On and Earth Power. It can also learn Shock Wave and Thunderbolt via TMs. Its exclusive items make it immune to confusion and convert Fighting-type damage into healing.
- Swablu: H IQ group. Astonish, Sing, Fury Attack, Mirror Move. Unfortunately its TM variety isn't that great (it gets Ice Beam but not Blizzard); however, its exclusive items make up for it: complete immunity to stat debuffs of any kind! This is completely unique and incredibly broken with some work, especially on Altaria. The other exclusive item converts Ice-type damage into healing.
- Snorunt: Basic form of Snorunt and Glalie; works more similar to Glalie, but can't learn Dark Pulse via TM.
- Castform: If you didn't unlock the optional Shimmer Hill, you can find it here. As always, be careful; Castform can do some real damage if it sets up the weather and uses Weather Ball!
- Piplup: The final Water-type starting choice (with the other being only in the optional Lake Afar).

- Golduck/Azurill/Marill/Azumarill/Sneasel/Piloswine/Smoochum/Vigoroth/Nosepass/Swablu/Snorunt/Piplup: The carry-over from Blizzard Island. Castform is missing, however.
- Swinub: Last seen in the optional Final Maze.
- Jynx: Evolution of Smoochum; swaps Sweet Kiss, Confusion, Sing, Lucky Chant, Psychic and Copycat for Lovely Kiss, DoubleSlap, Ice Punch, Wake-Up Slap, Body Slam and Wring Out, respectively. Jynx can also learn Focus Punch, Focus Blast and Energy Ball via TMs.
- Slakoth/Slaking: The other parts of Vigoroth evolutionary family. The good news: Truant doesn't activate on regular attack. The bad news: it does activate on Wonder Orbs. Slakoth and Slaking have different movesets from Vigoroth, but similar to each other; Yawn instead of Focus Energy, Slack Off instead of Uproar, Amnesia instead of Endure, Covet instead of Slash and Flail instead of Focus Punch. Slaking can also learn Fling, Punishment and Hammer Arm via levels.
- Altaria: Evolved form of Swablu. Has Lv. 1 Pluck, useful Dragon Dance at Lv. 39, and Sky Attack at Lv. 70; swaps Mirror Move for Dragon Pulse. It can also learn Flamethrower via TM.
- Zangoose: C IQ group. Has STAB Quick Attack, Fury Cutter, Slash, Pursuit and Detect. Good TM variety like many Normal-types have: Focus Punch, Water Pulse, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Dig, Shadow Ball, Shock Wave, Flamethrower and Focus Blast. Immunity to poison is always useful. Its exclusive items counters physical attacks at full efficiency.
- Prinplup/Empoleon: Evolution of Piplup. Prinplup switches Pound for Tackle and also learns Metal Claw, while Empoleon switches Water Sport and Bide for Swords Dance and Swagger, respectively, while also learning Aqua Jet.
- Snover: E IQ group. Gets access to Powder Snow, Razor Leaf, Icy Wind, GrassWhistle, and at higher levels Swagger, Ice Shard and Blizzard via level-up. It also gets Water Pulse, Bullet Seed, Shadow Ball and Energy Ball via TMs. Snow Warning makes it automatically summon hail, kinda like the (fake) Groudon did with the sun. This synergizes with its 3-star item, which makes it attack twice in hail, similar to Chlorophyll or Swift Swim, with the other 3-star item converting Fire-type damage into healing. That being said, there is no dungeon in which Abomasnow can be recruited. This is perhaps the most notorious case of having to evolve Pokémon in the entire game, as Snover doesn't evolve until level 40, and this is the only way you can recruit it... at level 15 at best. If you're aiming for completion or really want to use Abomasnow, it's probably easier to just farm Joy or Golden Seeds (with Nature Gifter to make the most use out of them), as actually levelling it up the normal way would involve dealing with the constant interruption from hail damage. Abomasnow learns Ice Punch and is compatible with Focus Punch and Focus Blast TMs.
- Weavile: Evolution of Sneasel, the leader of Team AWD. Its level-up moveset is pretty different from Sneasel, replacing Agility, Slash, Beat Up and Ice Shard with Nasty Plot, Night Slash, Fling, and Dark Pulse, respectively, while also learning Assurance, Embargo and Revenge. Also compatible with Focus Blast via TMs. Unfortunately loses both Inner Focus and Keen Eye in favor of the kinda gimmicky Pressure.
- Glaceon: The Ice-type Eeveelution with Snow Cloak. Level-up wise, swaps Growl, Baton Pass, Take Down, and Trump Card for Icy Wind, Ice Shard, Ice Fang, and Mirror Coat, respectively, eventually also learning Hail, Blizzard and Barrier. Being an Ice-type also grants it access to Water Pulse and Blizzard TMs. Its exclusive item may inflict freeze on attackers.
- Mamoswine: Evolved form of Piloswine. Exchanges Icy Wind, Fury Attack and Amnesia for Hail, Double Hit and Scary Face, respectively. Learning Hail does let it use Snow Cloak more easily.
Upon reaching the end of the cave, your team will notice Scizor, frozen in a block of ice. Just as you get closer for a better look, a voice laughs sneakily. You and your partner get extremely surprised, but the Pokémon talking don't seem to have notice--instead, it's just pondering over how visitors are a rare sight. Another blizzard hits you, covering you up entirely...and suddenly...
A Froslass appears!
Apparently, Froslass is the "host" of this island, where visitors are not frequent. Froslass appears to be saying something "kind", as it appears to be "worrying" how you struggled to get through the blizzards. Froslass then beckons you to come closer...again, "caring" for your well being, as Froslass is now thinking about how you're chilled to the bone. But then...Froslass threatens to freeze you!
Because of this, it all starts a battle...
Froslass is guaranteed to know Hail. The other three known moves will vary between the following: Astonish, Double Team, Powder Snow, Leer, Icy Wind, Confuse Ray, Ominous Wind, Wake-Up Slap, Captivate and Ice Shard.
Froslass will always know Hail due to her level, meaning she can take advantage of her Snow Cloak Ability. The big threats are the possibility of STAB Ominous Wind and/or Powder Snow, both of which hit the entire room. Double Team, Icy Wind and Confuse Ray might also be annoying. This is all however assuming all these moves are in her moveset, as otherwise this is quite a step-down from the previous boss fights, so just hit her with your strongest attacks! However, she does have Nonsleeper IQ skill, making her immune to things like Sleep Powder.
Froslass will be knocked into Scizor, and after a blizzard, will disappear. After this, Scizor will thaw out and have a hard time speaking. It also has a hard time remembering where it is, but then recalls it was exploring and frozen by Froslass. Scizor then notices you, and assumes you are rescuing him.

The Secret Rank
Suddenly, you are teleported back to the Crossroads of Treasure Town. Scizor is there, thanking you for rescuing him, since, if you hadn't come, he would have been frozen forever. He did not expect himself to be there as long as he did, and is still shaken by the thought. Since it's obviously not fair to go through the island and the caves without getting repaid, he decides to give you a little something.
But he has a hard time thinking of anything to give you, as he hardly has any money. Your partner quickly says it's OK, saying you understand his words of thanks. Soon after, he comes up with something to give you--since you're an exploration team, he reveals he's been a honorary member of the Pokémon Exploration Team Federation, something both you and your partner get surprised at. Still, your partner doesn't get the thing about "honorary member". He explains that an honorary member has the right to give special status to exemplary exploration teams. Fortunately, both you and your partner made the cut! So, he confers upon you...the Secret Rank!
Still, your partner is as confused as ever as to what the Secret Rank is. Scizor explains more--an exploration team with that rank is eligible to take Special Missions. Special Missions, apparently, are highly confidential jobs that are sent from the Exploration Team Federation itself. And yet...your partner is still confused, as to highly confidential means. Unlike before, Scizor (who is probably losing patience inside) tells your partner that it may not now, but will learn in due time. Scizor comments how he has to do it on your exploration badge, and does it!
Your partner still does not get it, but...thanks Scizor anyway. Scizor remarks that it's the least he could do for you rescuing him. Scizor then leaves.
The Secret Rank unlocks two types of missions:
- Challenge Letter issued by a Legendary or a Mythical Pokémon. They include Mewtwo in Sky Stairway, Suicune in Treacherous Waters, Raikou in Southeastern Islands, Entei in Inferno Cave, and Jirachi in Star Cave (but only after completing Bidoof's Wish). Accepting the challenge and defeating them is the only way to recruit them, although for all except for the last one, you need to unlock their dungeon first. Additionally, except for Jirachi, who is Lv. 32, they will be much higher level than you are right: anywhere from Lv. 65 to Lv. 80!
- The hunt for Seven Treasures; in Time and Darkness, their dungeons were available only by inputting special Wonder Mail codes, but in Sky, they can be randomly generated at Spinda's Café. While optional for story progress, these dungeons contain some Pokémon that cannot be found anywhere else; additionally, collecting all seven will add an icon to the save file screen.
Detailed information on most of these can be found here.
