Route 3 is a grassy road that leads east from Pewter City into the mountains around Route 4. Many Trainers can be found along the way as they raise their Pokémon for the upcoming cave.
Trainers with a telephone symbol by their names will give their Pokégear number to the player, and may call or be called for a rematch with higher-level Pokémon.

The southwest part of the route is occupied by a large crater, where several meteorites embedded themselves in the earth. A recent excavation project has uncovered four of these meteorites, all of which emit a strange energy. Though they are normally unresponsive, if examined while a Deoxys is in the party, their energy influences the extraterrestrial Pokémon's capabilities.
Energy from the northwest meteorite balances out the Pokémon's attributes, causing it to change into its Normal Forme.
Energy from the northeast meteorite heightens the Pokémon's offensive capabilities, shifting it into its Attack Forme.
Energy from the southwest meteorite boosts the Pokémon's defensive capabilities, causing it to take on its Defense Forme.
Energy from the southeast meteorite increases the Pokémon's Speed, causing it to change into its Speed Forme.
Mt. Moon
Mt. Moon
Mt. Moon is a mystical mountain that is known for its frequent meteor falls. The shards of stars that fall here are known as Moon Stones. Though it was once a large network of tunnels, the cave has since become unstable. Recent collapses have left most areas impassable except for one large chamber that links the two routes. This chamber also provides access to Mt. Moon Square.

Upon entering Mt. Moon, you are immediately approached by Silver. He is surprised to see you in Kanto, where he has been training his Pokémon since the previous battle. He admits that you are strong, and cannot help but to challenge you again.
Rival Battle 6
Silver's team is nearly the same as it was in the previous battle, though his Haunter and Kadabra have since evolved into Gengar and Alakazam, respectively. Use super effective moves to target his Pokémon's weaknesses for best results.
After the battle, Silver expresses his frustration that his Pokémon are still too weak to defeat you. Despite their progress, he insists that they still need more training. He decides to take them to the Dragon's Den, then hurries off.

Mt. Moon Square is a small clearing located on top of the mountain, where few people ever venture. A small shop is located here.

Between 8:00 pm Monday and 4:00 am Tuesday, six Clefairy appear in the western field. Four of them begin dancing around the pond, which happens to show the moon's reflection, as a kind of ritual to honor the moon. They get startled when you approach and run away, leaving behind a Moon Stone. The Clefairy repeat their dance every Monday night.
