User:Tiddlywinks/ref/Finding Availability
This is a helper table that quickly describes/points to Pokémon that can be found in different games. If we distinguish between playable/collectable Pokémon and incidental Pokémon (appearance only, perhaps only as an opponent or NPC), some of these games may not necessarily have information on Pokémon that only make incidental appearances.
Most "big" games should already have good data in game locations or side game data on species pages.
Event-only Pokémon are kind of a quandry... In short, I think I'd lean towards saying they're "catchable" or whatever. Obviously they're not available in the base game, but I think it'd be more of a problem to say a Pokémon isn't in a game because it's event-only than to say it's in a game but it's event-only. Maybe there's also some way to make an extra marking denoting those event-only classifications.
In spin-offs (singletons), PC and other groups of games are generally minor and I'm not immediately worried about filling them out currently. But eventually it would be nice to complete that information.
| Game(s) | Pokémon list | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Core series | ||
| Specifics should be noted in species' game location section | ||
| Side series | ||
| Specifics should be noted in species' game location section | ||
| Pokémon Stadium (Japanese) | Playable: Pokémon Stadium (Japanese)#Available Pokémon, the rest are just appearances | 40 are playable, 111 can only be viewed |
| Pokémon Stadium | All 151 playable | Should all the battlable Pokémon just be treated as playable/catchable? Or should we mark the few actually obtainable Pokémon (like Amnesia Psyduck) and call everything else an appearance? (OR do we just make more fine-grained distinctions?) |
| Pokémon Stadium 2 | All 251 playable | ditto^ |
| Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire | Appearances: all Gen I-III | I think this sort of pure storage game should only count Pokémon you transfer in as "appearances"? But then maybe Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire#Bonus Eggs count as catchable? |
| My Pokémon Ranch | Appearances: all Gen I-IV | Again, most Pokémon probably shouldn't count as catchable/playable; except maybe Hayley's trades |
| Pokémon Bank (Poké Transporter) | Appearances: all Gen I-VII | Again, most Pokémon probably shouldn't count as catchable/playable; except maybe Pokémon Bank#Event distributions |
| Pokémon HOME | Appearances: all Gen I-IX | Again, most Pokémon probably shouldn't count as catchable/playable; except maybe Pokémon HOME#Mystery Gifts |
| Pokémon Colosseum | Catchable: Pokémon Colosseum#Pokémon | Everything Gen I-III should count for appearances if you transfer it in for battles. But this "game + battler" combo highlights whether imported Pokémon should be counted for pure battlers like Stadium/Revolution. |
| Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness | Catchable: Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness#Pokémon (except Munchlax and Bonsly) | Everything Gen I-III should count for appearances if you transfer it in for battles. And ditto^ |
| Pokémon Battle Revolution | Pokémon Battle Revolution#Bonus Pokémon | You start out with a Rental Pass team, but you can take any beaten opponent's Pokémon at Gateway Colosseum; but you can also use any Pokémon from your Gen IV games with a Custom Pass. All these layers of "availability" just make classification very complicated (do you flatten some of them out or try to distinguish everything or what). |
| Pokéwalker | List of Pokémon found through the Pokéwalker | Since you can transfer anything in for a "stroll", all Gen I-IV Pokémon are appearances |
| Pokémon Dream World | Catchable: Template:DWnav | And of course every Gen I-V Pokémon can be "tucked in" (appearances) |
| Pokémon Dream Radar | Pokémon Dream Radar#Obtainable Pokémon | — |
| Other (spin-offs: SERIES) | ||
| Hey You, Pikachu! | Hey You, Pikachu!#Characters (incomplete) | I'd say Pikachu is the only catchable/playable character, even though you can fish. Fishable Pokémon (like Magikarp) are not currently on the game's page, so there could be other missing Pokémon too |
| Pokémon Channel | Nice Card | Pikachu is playable and the rest are "catchable" as cards more or less |
| Pokémon Dash | Pokémon Dash#Single player | Only Pikachu is playable, otherwise each course has listed "opponents" |

| Pokémon Card Game Entry Battle | Pokémon Card Game Entry Battle#List of game installments | There are often specific decks the player uses; in such cases, cards in that deck would be playable, but cards in other decks would just be appearances |
| Pokémon Say Tap? | Can You Name All the Pokémon? BW | The game shows Pokémon as they're named in the song (only the first version? starts with Mijumaru [1]) |
| Pokémon Card Game: How to Play DS | Beginning Set (TCG) (Tepig/Oshawott/Snivy half decks) | Missing info about post-tutorial characters... |
| Pokémon Card Game Gacha | Pokémon Card Game Gacha#Game modes | IMO the cards it gives out don't count as being "in-game"; focus on Pokémon that appear in the mini-games |
| Pokémon TCG Card Dex | ... | "Sun & Moon to Team Up, including Black Star Promos from the Sun & Moon Series"; "updates added support for older cards from the XY Series and newer cards up until Obsidian Flames" |
| Digital Raid Battle Assistant | Pikachu/Dreadnaw | It's a minimal helper, just about everything not directly about the boss is left to the player(s) |
