The Parcel (Japanese: おとどけもの Parcel), known as Oak's Parcel prior to Generation IV, is a Key Item introduced in Generation I.

It has been also referred to as package,[1][2][3] parcel,[4] and order.[5]

In the core series games

"Ah! This is the custom POKé BALL I ordered! Thank you!"

In Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen, the Parcel contains a custom Poké Ball that is kept by Professor Oak. In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, the Parcel contains Razz Berries that Professor Oak shares with the player and Trace.

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl, the Parcel contains two Town Maps of the Sinnoh region. Barry gives one to the player.

Effect

Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, Let's Go, Pikachu!, and Let's Go, Eevee!

The player is able to deliver this Parcel to Professor Oak by talking to him in his Laboratory while this the Parcel is in the Bag.

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! only, when the Parcel is obtained from the clerk of the Viridian City Poké Mart, the player has the option to immediately deliver it to Professor Oak. In earlier games, the player was required to walk all the way back through Route 1 to deliver this item.

When delivered to Professor Oak, he gives to the player and rival:

Once the Parcel is delivered:

  • One of Professor Oak's Fame Checker entries is unlocked.FRLG
  • Professor Oak will be available for rating the player's Pokédex completion.
  • In the PC, the "Oak's PC" option is unlocked for rating the player's Pokédex completion.
  • Daisy Oak gives the player a Town Map if the player interacts with her.RBYFRLG
  • The old manRBYFRLG or the Team Rocket trioPE stops blocking Viridian City's north exit.
  • The rival becomes temporarily available for an optional battle on Route 22.
  • The player will be able to connect with other games in order to battle or trade Pokémon.
  • The player will be able to buy items from Viridian City Poké Mart.
Glitches

In Japanese Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, and all versions of Pokémon Yellow, if the player obtains multiple Pokémon (such as by evolving the first partner Pokémon) before delivering the Parcel, it will be permanently unable to be delivered due to a glitch. The game will assume that the player already has the Pokédex, and Professor Oak will offer to rate it instead of accepting the Parcel. The player will be permanently unable to progress in the game past Viridian City, and the other in-game events (obtaining the Pokédex and Town Map, buying items from the Poké Mart, connecting with other games) will not be available to the player.

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, if the Parcel was obtained from glitches instead of from the Viridian City Poké Mart, it will not be possible to deliver it before properly obtaining it as intended. The game specifically checks for the event flag that the Parcel was received instead of checking if it is currently in the Bag. Conversely, if the Parcel was received from the Poké Mart but was later removed from the Bag using glitches, this event will work even without the Parcel in the Bag.

Reason: Explain what are the in-game events that only become available after the player attempts obtains the Parcel (presumably from this point onward, the player will be able to obtain Coupons and the Pokétch, progress through Jubilife City, and battle Barry on Route 203)

When brought to the player's rival Barry in Jubilife City's Trainers' School, the Parcel will be opened, revealing that it contains two Town Maps. The player and their rival take one each.
