CATCH THAT THIEF!
Someone is stealing electricity from homes around town. The detective thinks the thief is Pikachu! Ash knows Pikachu didn't do it. Can he and Goh catch the real culprit?
Plot
The book follows the plot of Sleuths For Truth!.
Detective Decker goes down a lineup of Electric-type Pokémon including Pikachu, trying to determine who is stealing electricity from homes in town. With a drawing of the thief, he identifies Pikachu as the culprit. Despite Ash insisting that Pikachu is not responsible, Decker puts handcuffs on the Pokémon, although they are too big to fit.
Pikachu senses that the thief is striking again and dashes to a house down the street. A man runs outside the house and says his electricity has been stolen. Officer Jenny remarks that Pikachu can help them catch the real thief. Ash and Goh want to help and, after donning police uniforms, begin helping several Trainers and Pokémon. They help a trainer find his Vulpix in a park full of its species by identifying its heart-shaped tail. Then, they push a Snorlax out of the road, chase a Dodrio, help a group of Psyduck cross the road, and untangle two Tangela.
Despite their exhaustion, Ash and Goh have not found the thief. Goh suggests that Pikachu fills a house with electricity to attract the thief. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt in Chloe's house, and as Ash and his friends wait, they wonder what Pokémon could be responsible. When Chloe's Eevee and Professor Cerise's Yamper discover a Morpeko eating stolen food, Ash suggests Morpeko as the thief, then remembers that the Pokémon can't drain electricity.
They follow Morpeko outside the house where they run into Team Rocket, the real thieves. They had been using a giant machine to steal electricity from homes to feed Morpeko. Jenny arrests the trio, but they escape the handcuffs and speed off in thier car. Ash, Goh, and Jenny follow them; Jenny commands her Growlithe to use Swift, but Team Rocket retaliates by firing an electrical boom at the patrol car. Team Rocket speeds away again, but Ash and his friends catch up at their hideout. Pikachu fires a Thunderbolt powered by the stolen electricity, and Team Rocket blasts off. Back in Cerise Park, Decker gives Pikachu an award for helping with the case.
