Synopsis
The book starts with a brief bit of information, introducing Ash as well as his Pikachu and his dream to become the world's best Pokémon Trainer. After this, the book details the circumstances in which Ash received Pikachu as his first partner Pokémon, followed by him capturing Caterpie and meeting Team Rocket for the first time. It then describes Pokémon Gyms and gives a brief summary of Ash's battle against Brock, as well as the start of the twos' friendship and a description of Gym Badges. Gary is then introduced, and his and Ash's rivalry is established.
The book then goes on to list several of his friends, including Brock, Misty, Dawn, and May. It states what their goals are, as well as what some of their favorite Pokémon are, or in Dawn's case, her first Pokémon and who she received it from. This section also introduces the concept of regions, as well as Ash being from Kanto and Dawn being from Sinnoh.
It then moves on to Ash's travels, briefly covering the Orange Islands before moving on to Sinnoh. It goes through parts of his journey there, including him befriending Dawn, watching her win her first ribbon, and battling Roark.
Finally, it describes Evolution as well as some of Ash's Pokémon. It gives a description of Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Buizel, and Gligar, including their types, unique abilities, and what they evolve into. It states that Ash is always looking for more Pokemon, knowing that Trainers must work with their Pokémon and respect their wills. It then lists four more of Ash's Pokémon, this time without descriptions. These Pokémon are Charizard, Cyndaquil, Corphish, and Torkoal.
Trivia
Errors
- The book implies that Professor Oak giving out a Pikachu (alongside the other first partner Pokémon) is usual, which is an incorrect statement, as it is known that Ash's Pikachu was a special case.
- The book claims that "every major city has a Pokémon gym", which is not the case, as there are several major cities without Gyms.
- The book itself later calls Jubilife City the largest city in Sinnoh, which contradicts the prior claim, as it does not have a Gym.
- At one point, the book insinuates that Gary does not care about his Pokémon, which is odd, as the book covers plot points from the animated series all the way through Sinnoh, by which point it is well established that this is not the case.
