MEET SPRIGATITO!
Liko gets her very first partner Pokémon, Sprigatito. It's so cute! But the pair have trouble bonding. When a suspicious stranger shows up looking for Liko, can she and Sprigatito work together to get away from trouble?
Plot
The book follows the plot of The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One)
On Liko's first day of school, she walks to the front of the classroom and chooses her first Pokémon. Sprigatito emerges from the Poké Ball, but when Liko tries to hug the Pokémon, it scratches her and runs away. She follows Sprigatito up to the roof and tries to catch it when it jumps off. Sprigatito lands on Liko's face, sending them both tumbling over the railing where they land safely on a Snorlax's belly. When Sprigatito runs away again, Liko follows it to a lake and tries for another hug, only to be whacked by her partner.
Their first battle goes poorly, as Sprigatito doesn't listen to Liko's command. The opposing Oshawott knocks Sprigatito down with Water Gun. Liko tries to study her Pokémon to get to know it better, going so far as to set up secret training sessions, but Sprigatito does not obey. Unable to sleep after training, Liko takes out the necklace her grandmother gave her and wishes it could help her bond with Sprigatito.
The next day, a stranger approaches Liko saying her grandmother sent him. He asks her to come with him and to bring the necklace. Feeling that something is wrong, Liko runs back to her room and escapes with her necklace. The stranger follows her and sends out Rhydon. Sprigatito jumps in front of Liko who, realizing her partner wants to battle, commands it to use Leafage. The leaves swirl into Rhydon's eyes, leaving it unable to see, and Liko and Sprigatito take the chance to escape.
The stranger follows them to the clock tower and demands that they hand over the necklace. When Liko doesn't comply, he sends out Ceruledge and has it use Bitter Blade. A new voice warns Liko to stay back, and a man swoops down on a Charizard. While Charizard and Ceruledge battle, Liko and Sprigatito escape. They jump off the edge of the roof, and Liko's necklace glows, surrounding them in a protective ball of light. When they land, Liko realizes she and Sprigatito have finally bonded andd looks toward the future with her new partner.
