The Darkness Ablaze Build & Battle Box was a special product intended for distribution at Prerelease Tournaments for the Darkness Ablaze expansion. These tournaments were set to be held on the two weekends prior to the release of the expansion: August 1-2 and 8-9, 2020, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all official events remained on hold. Retailers in the Prerelease Program who were eligible to host Rebel Clash Prerelease Tournaments retained their eligibility for this expansion and were permitted to sell boxes from August 1.

Each Build & Battle Box included a 23-card Evolution pack that incorporated one of four specially stamped Prerelease cards, as well as four Darkness Ablaze booster packs. The Prerelease cards for the Darkness Ablaze expansion were Decidueye, Arctozolt, Hydreigon, and Kangaskhan. Each of these cards were supplemented with a group of other Pokémon that shared their respective types.

Build & Battle Boxes could include exclusive Non Holofoil versions of Holofoil cards from the Darkness Ablaze expansion: Tapu Koko and Darkrai. Kangaskhan was initially exclusive but was later made available in the Galarian Darmanitan Theme Deck. They could also provide a re-release of Non Holofoil Sword & Shield Professor's Research originally from the Sword & Shield Build & Battle Box.

Each box included two of the following four different groups of Pokémon cards, with one group always coinciding with the Prerelease promo.
