Ultra Burst
- If you were looking for the transformation from the manga Pokémon RéBURST, see Burst.
Ultra Burst (Japanese: ウルトラバースト Ultra Burst) is a transformation affecting Pokémon, introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. These are the only core series games to feature the transformation, but it also appears in other media such as Pokémon Masters EX. The only Pokémon able to undergo this transformation is Necrozma, turning it into Ultra Necrozma.
Necrozma requires an overwhelming amount of light and Z-Power to undergo Ultra Burst. In the core series, it must be in either Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings form and be holding Ultranecrozium Z to undergo the transformation.

History
Ultra Burst is a transformation unique to Necrozma, with Ultra Necrozma being considered the true appearance of Necrozma.
Many years before the events of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Necrozma took this shape, offering its light to many worlds, including within the Alola region. This light became the Z-Power and aura found in Totem Pokémon and Z-Moves. Necrozma was given an unknown injury, transforming it into a black crystalline shape that it is currently known as. It can revert to its true appearance when it has absorbed an overwhelming amount of light energy. It can get this energy from Solgaleo or Lunala and by absorbing Z-Power into its system.
Necrozma had once taken back its light before and performed Ultra Burst before the events of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. In Alola's history, Necrozma had once taken over the light of SolgaleoUS or LunalaUM, and was asked to be defeated by the king of Alola. During the events of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, a Necrozma attempts to steal the light of Alola, taking over the body of Nebby. In the process, had escaped into Ultra Megalopolis, taking back the light it once claimed as its own and using Nebby's light to Ultra Burst into Ultra Necrozma. Necrozma appears to have undergone Ultra Burst without the use of an Ultranecrozium Z in its match against the player.
Gameplay
In order to undergo Ultra Burst, Necrozma needs to be in either its Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings forms and be holding an Ultranecrozium Z. Once the conditions are met, the player can select the Ultra Burst button on the move selection screen in battle in order to activate the transformation. This button appears in the same place as the Z-Move and Mega Evolution buttons would. After at least one turn has passed since Ultra Burst was used, Ultra Necrozma may use its signature Z-Move Light That Burns the Sky, provided it knows the move Photon Geyser.
Ultra Burst may only be activated once per Trainer per battle, even if the player has multiple Necrozma holding Ultranecrozium Z. If Ultra Necrozma faints in battle, it will revert to its prior form and cannot activate Ultra Burst again for the rest of the battle, even if it is revived.

Pokémon Masters EX
Sygna Suit Lusamine is the only Trainer to use Ultra Burst. Unlike Mega Evolution, Ultra Burst results in a 1.2× multiplier to five stats instead of the usual two when Mega Evolving. Dusk Mane Necrozma becomes Ultra Necrozma once it uses the sync move Loving Light That Burns the Sky, and it stays as Ultra Necrozma until the end of the battle.
