The master fisherman (Japanese: 釣り名人 fishing expert) is a minor recurring character who appeared in the Sun & Moon series.
History
He debuted in Big Sky, Small Fry!. He was first seen sleeping whilst Team Rocket were fishing for the Totem Pokémon of Brooklet Hill, having previously told them about it. He woke up after Bewear came and took them away.
When Lana and Ash came fishing, he informed them that they needed his permission to fish. He agreed to let them fish if they managed to find a Feebas, which Lana, to his astonishment, reeled in almost immediately. He then told the duo that they'd need a boat to fish, and said that they could borrow his boat if they gave him the Feebas, which they agreed to. He also stayed on the site to observe how Lana found, fought, and eventually defeated the Totem Pokémon.
In SM129, he was among the Trainers taking part in the Manalo Conference. However, he failed to pass the Battle Royal round.
Character
The master fisherman likes to recount tales of how he has tried to reel in the Totem of Brooklet Hill, although his stories seem highly exaggerated, as he tends to add decades into the time he has spent doing so. He also wears fake scars on his arms to show off as "proof" of his battles with the Totem.
Pokémon
Given
Feebas was a Pokémon that Lana reeled in at Brooklet Hill. She gave it to the master fisherman in order to use his boat.
None of Feebas's moves are known. | ||

Trivia
- This character's Japanese title is the same as the Fishing Gurus of the Kanto region.
- He bears a strong resemblance to the Pokémon Sled Jump Master, who appeared in Getting a Jump on the Competition!; and the Caddie Expert, who appeared in Keeping Your Eyes on the Ball!. They all even share the same Japanese voice actor, while he and the Pokémon Sled Jump Master also share the same English and Finnish voice actors.
