Cerulean City

Cerulean City

Cerulean City is a beautiful city with flowing water and blooming flowers. It is located between Route 4, Route 24, Route 9, and Route 5. The local Bike Shop has expanded its business to a second location in Goldenrod City. The Cerulean Gym stands in the city center, and a mysterious cave is located on the north edge of town.

The Man in Black

Upon entering the Gym, a man in a dark uniform runs into you. He stops for a moment to make sure that you are not hurt, then mentions how it would be a problem if he was seen by anyone. Suddenly realizing that he has indeed already been seen, he orders you to forget about him before rushing off.

Route 24

Route 24

Route 24 stretches north from Cerulean City to Route 25. Most of the area is occupied by a river and the Nugget Bridge that crosses it.

Stop, Thief!

The man dressed in black can be found regrouping on Nugget Bridge. When he first notices you, he tries to blend in with a nearby couple. Confront him, and he explains that his secret mission was to disable the Power Plant's generator in order to cause mass panic. He makes you a deal: defeat him in battle, and he will reveal the key to his mission.

After the battle, he reveals that he hid the Machine Part near a pile of inflatable tubes in Cerulean Gym. He shrugs off his loss, saying that his Team Rocket friends will come from Johto to get revenge for him, but quickly flees when he realizes that no help is coming.

Treasure Hunting

The Gym Leader has stepped out for the moment and there are no Gym Trainers around. Search the inflatable tubes near the back of the Gym to recover the Machine Part.

Route 10 (North)

Kanto Power Plant

Power Restored!

Return to the Power Plant and speak to the Manager to deliver the Machine Part. He is grateful to see it returned, and rewards you with TM57 (Charge Beam).

With the generator restored and the Power Plant back online, there are certain sidequests that may now be completed.

Saffron City

Copycat's house

Return to Saffron City and visit the Copycat's house in the northwest part of the city. Speak to her to learn that she has lost her favorite Poké Doll, and believes it to be located somewhere in Vermilion City.

Vermilion City

Pokémon Fan Club

Return to Vermilion City and visit the Pokémon Fan Club on the west side of town. Speak to the man with the Clefairy Poké Doll to explain the situation. He has not yet been able to catch his own Clefairy, and so brought a doll that he had found instead. When he realizes that it is missed by its owner, he gladly gives up the Lost Item.

Stranger from a Strange Land

When you leave the Fan Club building, you are approached by a man who introduces himself as Steven, the Champion from the distant Hoenn region. He asks if you have heard of a Pokémon called Latias^HG / Latios^SS, and explains that he is investigating why the Hoenn-native Pokémon decided to travel all the way here to Kanto. He goes on to say that the Pokémon has a connection to the gem-like Soul Dew, and wonders if this may have something to do with it. He turns to leave in the hopes that your paths cross again.

After this meeting, the Pokégear Map tracks the Pokémon's movements around the Kanto region.

Saffron City

Magnet Train station

Copycat's house

Speak to the girl to return the Lost Item. She rewards you with a Pass, a ticket used to board the Magnet Train. Her old home was torn down to make room for the train station, and she received the item from a train company representative as compensation. Now that the Power Plant is operational again, the Magnet Train runs between Johto's Goldenrod City and Kanto's Saffron City twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. As the S.S. Aqua sails only on certain days, riding the train is the most convenient means of travel between the two regions.

Lavender Town

Radio Tower

Return to Lavender Town's Radio Tower and speak to the Manager near the north wall. With the power back on and the tower broadcasting normally, he never lost his job. Realizing that it is you that he has to thank for this, he rewards you with an EXPN Card. This expansion card allows the Pokégear to tune into the remaining radio program, the Poké Flute Channel. To do so, the user must manually move the round indicator to the top of the circular field.

Route 25

Route 25

Route 25 leads eastward from Route 24. The path winds its way through a forest before it ends overlooking the sea. The Sea Cottage is located on the east side.

Challenge Accepted

The first Trainer encountered here, School Kid Dudley, is part of a group of six and challenges you to defeat them all. Fight each one as you move eastward, ending with Lass Shannon, to complete the challenge. Defeat Super Nerd Pat as well, then speak to Ace Trainer Kevin to receive your prize: a Nugget. After seeing how you battle, he wants to know how well he would fare, and draws you into battle.

Cerulean Cape

Party Crashing

Upon reaching the cape, you find the Cerulean Gym Leader on a date nearby. Her date runs off and she starts to yell, until she spots your Johto Badges. She states that you must be strong if you earned all eight Badges, and invites you to Cerulean Gym. She introduces herself as Misty before heading back to town.

Bill's Cottage

The Sea Cottage belongs to Bill, but his grandfather is housesitting while he is away. The elderly man enjoys hearing about all of the Pokémon that his grandson meets. Speak to him, and he describes a certain Pokémon that he would like to see. If shown a Pokémon of the correct species, he rewards you with an Evolution stone.

Cerulean City Pokémon Gym Leader: Misty The Tomboyish Mermaid

The Cerulean Gym specializes in Water-type Pokémon. Water-type moves are super effective against Fire-, Ground-, and Rock-type Pokémon, while Water-type Pokémon are weak to Electric- and Grass-type moves.

The Gym features a large swimming pool. Challengers may advance by either going around the pool or by using Surf to cross it. The second Sailor, Eddie, may inadvertently block off the back of the building as he draws an approaching challenger into battle. This means that most will likely need to cross at least the far end of the pool, surfing past Swimmers and around lane dividers to reach the Gym Leader.

Electric-type attacks are a major vulnerability for Misty's team. Only the Ground-type Quagsire is unaffected by Electric moves, and can deal increased damage to Electric Pokémon with Earthquake. If Rain Dance takes effect, Water moves receive a power boost and Thunder has its Accuracy increased to 100%. Grass-type moves will do equally well, but both Lapras and Starmie can counter Grass Pokémon with their Ice attacks. Alternatively, Lapras takes serious damage from Fighting- and Rock-type moves, while Starmie falters against Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type moves.

Route 5

Route 5 is a scenic road that runs downhill from Cerulean City to Saffron City. The first of the region's two Underground Paths begins here and runs southward underneath Saffron City to re-emerge on Route 6.

Raging with Hunger

Speak to the man near the middle of the tunnel, and he mentions how it makes him mad that a place like this attracts mean people who would start trouble. He then notices your RageCandyBar, and asks if he can have it. Let him have the candy bar and his mood improves after eating it. He rewards you with TM64 (Explosion) as thanks.
